Why can't I see certain users' posts or threads?

To the site owners: hello? One of the most basic features of this entire platform has been broken for months now!!!
Why is the post search still down? It feels like nobody is even looking after this place anymore.

Look, you guys seriously need to wrap your heads around this: that feature isn't coming back. It eats up way too many resources. Every time I try to post something similar, my threads either get nuked or just buried under a mountain of trolls, even when I'm telling the truth. Management is all about maximizing the ROI. If the servers aren't bogged down by those extra features, they can just pack in more ads and make a killing.

This post is probably going to vanish in a heartbeat, or I'll just catch another ban and we can start the whole cycle over again, right, Joe?

Web developer here. This is my educated guess: searching for posts or threads by a specific user is incredibly resource-heavy. When you have a massive database and multiple users try to pull up someone's history at the exact same time, a budget-friendly server—like the one hosting this site—just hits its limit. That’s when you start seeing those 503 and 504 errors, double posting, or being unable to post at all. To fix the stability issues, they likely just stripped the functionality entirely. I’ve actually noticed the forum feels faster and more responsive lately, which is probably a direct result of removing that specific search feature. My take? I don't see this coming back anytime soon—if it ever does—because bringing it back would mean upgrading the server resources, and that's an expensive line item.

Exactly. I didn't really catch how much better it's performing until you mentioned it. It used to crash constantly, leaving you waiting minutes just for it to come back online. Ever since they pulled that feature, the server hasn't gone down once. Interesting...

There used to be this site that generated profiles for US forums to make searching easier, but it looks like they blocked it. Does that trick still work where you can search 😁 using a banned profile?

People only reach out to ask if the search function is working again.
They aren't coming back. And they aren't going to.

Yeah, that’s honestly the saddest part about all of this—all this talk about "integrity" and then acting like this.

Anyway, having a search function is pretty much a basic requirement—I mean, it's like if they suddenly decided you couldn't send direct messages, or even worse! Without it, this isn't even really a functional forum anymore. It's a shame, too, because this place actually managed to build up a solid community back when it was functioning properly, but now? but I just don't get how they can be this shortsighted. They aren't seeing that, in the long run, this isn't just a bad move—it could be the death knell for this entire site.
I mean... personally, I never viewed this forum as some ultimate fountain of wisdom, but for an average Joe's day-to-day needs... it worked fine.
It feels insane to trade away everything else... to put things like speed and server stability on one side of the scale, and then sacrifice everything else on the other...

I guess you just have to get used to keeping track of where you left off and which specific threads you’ve started yourself. I say this from personal experience, since I’ve always relied on that little mental log to remember my own contributions and see how my various discussions are currently unfolding. Honestly, that feature isn't available anymore, but there's no use crying over spilled milk... It really is a shame that we can't at least search through other people's threads, though I suppose it is what it is. I rarely found myself digging through anyone else's posts anyway, but if you really need that functionality, there is an alternative 😛

You can just set it up so you're automatically subscribed to any thread you participate in—that way, you don't have to worry about keeping track of everything manually.☕
