Why can't I see certain users' posts or threads?

So, I take it there's absolutely no way to actually search through one's own posts or someone else's threads? Nothing at all?

Man, every single time I stumble onto Reddit, it’s just the same old crap over and over again...
Even the search function for today's posts in the Fast Link section isn't even working properly...
It honestly drives me insane when you can literally click on something, only for it to be a total dud.

Honestly, dealing with these posts is becoming a major headache for me.

It’s honestly terrifying. That’s my biggest concern—if I’m gone for a hundred years and then suddenly pop back in just to see what the latest chaos was all about.

In the upper left corner (just above the first user's post on the page), there is an icon labeled Google custom search—give it a try, Mike... It lacks the clarity of the standard search, but perhaps it offers some small measure of utility.

When is this actually going to be fixed? I can't even tell if someone has responded to my inquiry, and now I can't even find where I originally posted it!

Just go into your settings and toggle the option to auto-subscribe to threads you participate in.

Here I go again, circling back to the same old issue regarding searching through posts—both my own and everyone else's on the site.

Of course not; our only real job here is to keep this community breathing, and frankly, I couldn't care less about anything else.
It isn't just that you can't search for specific user posts, but they haven't even bothered to include a "new posts" section either.

I suspect they're getting hammered by DDoS attacks, yet somehow, they can't seem to find it in their hearts to invest even a single cent into proper security...

If you ask me, I'd give Reddit maybe another year or so before it fades away entirely, mostly just riding on its old reputation.

I suppose if anyone actually had a shred of respect for the users, they might have bothered to officially announce it instead of making us "figure it out" ourselves. 🙄 This is exactly how #management handles things.

I know this might be a bit out of place here, but I’ve got a quick question. Lately, whenever I check the "soap factory" subforum, I see a notification that a specific thread—in this case, "Unforgiven"—has a new post based on the date shown.

Is this just a glitch with the site, or what's going on?

First off, search engines still remember everything even after you hit delete—and second, when mods "delete" a post to protect users, it’s kind of a lie because it’s still hanging around in the backend for them to see.

Long story short: the mods make a post invisible to us regular folks, but it hasn't actually vanished from the site itself.

So, I guess we can just kiss the whole idea of keeping tabs on our own threads and everyone else's goodby?

What do you guys think about this?

What if we just started a "GoFundMe" campaign? Seriously, setting one up doesn't cost you guys a single cent https://www.gofundme.com/. We could collect donations from members who’d definitely chip in—people can give whatever they want, obviously, and I bet plenty of folks who actually need that search tool would be down to help. We could pull enough together really fast to upgrade the servers (or whatever else needs fixing) and finally get the search function back online.

And look, don't be embarrassed by the idea. Tons of much bigger sites and forums have run successful GoFundMe campaigns before. Honestly, I think it’s way more embarrassing that the core parts of this forum aren't even working than it is to ask for donations. It costs absolutely nothing to try, and it might actually work and fix this mess once and for all.

Oh yeah, one more thing. On GoFundMe, you set a final fundraising goal. If you don't hit that target, everyone gets their money back automatically at zero cost. So, this wouldn't actually cost anyone a dime, even if we don't reach the total needed to upgrade the hardware and software for the search function. Just think about that before you go shooting off and being all dismissive of the idea. Seriously, I'm telling you, it costs nothing

Wait, how the hell do I actually do that?

Go to the top left, right under the main site header, and click on "Options"
Once you're in the Control Panel, navigate to "Settings & Options" and select "Edit Options." This will pull up your full configuration page.
Look for the section labeled Messaging & Notification, where you'll find the default Thread Subscription mode. From there, just change it from "do not subscribe" to whatever setting actually works for you.

If you don't want everything automated, you can always just manually subscribe to specific threads: head to the top right of any topic, click on "Thread Tools," and then hit "Subscribe to this thread."

After that, whenever you log in, just hit that "Options" link I mentioned earlier to see a complete list of all the threads and subforums you're following. Personally, I’ve set my browser to load that specific page as my homepage so I can immediately see if there's anything new in the topics I care about.

So, when are we finally getting a search bar for posts?
