EDIT: Previous poll results!

Voting for the next Host and their rulebook

Here’s the deal: this is the new thread for discussing the Host and the rules for the 2013 season.

I’m moving all the posts regarding the 2013 season and general rules over to this thread.
The server is acting up a bit, so I'll get that finished either early tomorrow morning or late tonight,
but feel free to keep the discussion going right here in the meantime.

If you want to run for the 2013 season Host or suggest your own rules, please do it in this thread.🙂

The deadline to apply for the 2013 championship host is July 1, 2012.
It’s highly recommended that everyone applying includes their own proposed rulebook along with their application.
Those rules need to be submitted by that July 1, 2012 deadline so players can vote for both you as host and your specific rules at the same time.
Once that date passes, I’ll open a poll in this thread to vote for the Host and their rulebook.
The poll will stay open for 30 days.

If nobody applies to be the host by August 1, 2012—when the poll closes—and no rules for the upcoming season show up, the 2013 championship probably won't happen.
Let's face it: running the championship without a chosen host and a set of rules makes zero sense.

If you think about it, a 45-day window is too short to apply and draft rules, just say the word and we might extend it.
Personally, though, I think it's plenty of time for candidates to step up and get their rules ready.

Here are some thoughts to chew on for the upcoming season.
Everyone can submit their own "default" prediction; if you fail to send in a specific forecast for a race, we'll just go with your default one.

Look, if you can't spare 20 seconds every two weeks to make a prediction, why even bother entering the contest in the first place?

Look, we have jokers for stuff like that—why are you being so stubborn about your specific prediction?

Lately, I've been getting the feeling that a few people are just participating in this competition to mess with my head...😬

Honestly, this isn't even a bad idea.😉
Maybe they should actually implement a rule for next season where signing up counts as being the first one to submit your predictions plus joining a team.
So, let’s say we go with this style:

Hey guys: PP Nico Rosberg FL Mark Webber team : dr. Jekyll and mr. Hyde racing

Look, all that "I'm gonna play this" and "blah blah blah" talk doesn't actually mean a damn thing until the official predictions are actually posted.
That way we’d avoid all the stupidity we saw with Techn, like having a player signed up without even submitting a prediction.🤷

It’s not like it's a huge deal if I wait to drop a new prediction for the first round—or any other round, really.
At least we’d have that first forecast to go off of in a situation like that.😳

Honestly, we could just have everyone submit one master post with their "default predictions" at the start. Then, you could just use that as a joker pick for any given round without having to bother with a new prediction every single time. Simple.
Searching through this thread just to find the latest prediction for a specific driver would be way less of a headache.🤷
And who’s actually lazy? If that first one sucked, it’s hardly his fault.😬

We could always throw in a clause letting everyone swap out their "default predictions" once per season. Just one free pass.

Honestly, I think it's a pretty stupid idea. Someone could just show up at the start of the season, drop a default standings table, and then basically never bother updating it for the rest of the year... plus, that table becomes totally useless after just three or four races anyway, since team strength and speed are constantly shifting...

The Joker prediction actually makes way more sense here... since it actually accounts for the last forecast posted...

Hey, if you don't mind, maybe try setting them all to the same total width... I think it would look a lot cleaner that way...🙂

I'll get it sorted... 👍

If they’re actually gonna make it work, they might as well throw some numbers and team colors on there too... 😉

Those numbers and team colors aren't making it into the charts. They don't serve any purpose and just make everything a cluttered mess...

Man, you really didn't get what I was suggesting, did you?😁

That forecast would only count if you actually have a joker card left.😬
So, it's not an endless thing—it’s just a joker forecast that lasts as long as you've got jokers to burn.😉

As for the numbers and colors, personally, I think they're totally useless in the tables.

Of course, even in that scenario, someone would be disqualified after failing to submit an entry three times in a row.

So how is that actually better than a joker pick? You know, using the most recent prediction—which is definitely going to be way more accurate to the actual grid than some guess made at the start of the season?

Well, nobody ever said it was "better."🤷
It’s just easier for the host, and it basically forces you to keep submitting new predictions.

If you aren't the type to send in fresh picks constantly, it isn't "better" for you. It's better for the people running the show and for the players who actually bother to update their guesses regularly.

I haven't really looked at it from that angle...

But why even nag people?? That’s what always confuses me about these competitions. If they don't want to play, or if they can't spare 20 seconds to just copy-paste a prediction, then why did they even sign up in the first place? It's not like someone's holding a gun to their head...

Whatever you say.
Honestly, I don't really care, but I think using the first prediction as the entry along with your team name is actually a solid idea.🙂
It seems pretty fine to me, just to keep track of who signed up for which team.

As for the joker thing—I don't care if it's an old or new prediction since I end up writing at least two for every single race anyway.😬🤣

You can't just go changing the rules right in the middle of the competition; we aren't the FIA... if an issue crops up that isn't explicitly covered by the rulebook, there really isn't much choice but to deal with it as it stands. All those kinds of adjustments should be handled once the season is officially over.

We aren't even changing them.🤣🤣🤣

We're talking about the rules for next season.😳

Why bring this up here now? I’ve always felt that a competition should be purged of these kinds of distractions, as they only serve to further demotivate those players who aren't already fully invested.

Since Matthew Young35 actually dropped a suggestion, why don't we bother discussing it?🤷
Every single year, we mess this up during the "dead season," fail to agree on anything, and then deal with the fallout later.😢

Honestly, it would be perfect if we had every single rule for next season locked in before the final race of this one.
But hey, we're all actually present right now, so this feels like the best time to do it.🙂

Who on earth came up with the idea that groups 3 and 4 should get +2 points for exact positions, while groups 1 and 2 only get +1? Clearly, they didn't account for a season turning out this chaotic...

Terry Carter2 said:Bjesomar mentioned he’d put together a program to calculate that specific criterion!
😁

Yeah, well, he said that last year too, and nothing ever came of it... 😬

..and even if he did whip up some little script for that rule, what then? Does every future commissioner need to download his software just to be eligible to run this thing? Because it feels like that rule gets invoked constantly?!

..let's get real here and simplify how we run this competition. It's getting way too complicated and bloated. Honestly, if it wasn't for you, Terry Carter2, doing most of the heavy lifting, this whole thing would have wrapped up in three days...

The spreadsheets are massive, and there's room to screw up at every single turn. We need to automate as much as possible. Without these automated Excel sheets, this would easily drag on for over a week🤣 🤣 ☕
