Listen, everyone, I’ve taken it upon myself to draft an entirely new set of general regulations from scratch. My goal was to synthesize everything I believe to be the most effective points from all the various proposals we've seen up to this point into one cohesive document.
Of course, I am not suggesting it absolutely has to be structured that way; rather, I believe it could serve as a solid foundation for a new set of general regulations. It is certainly more concise and straightforward than what we are currently working with, which would likely allow us to sidestep most of the headaches we deal with today.

I should probably clarify one thing: I have absolutely no interest in running the championship myself. I didn't draft these general regulations as part of some formal application to lead. This is simply a proposal intended to fix the current, rather subpar situation we find ourselves in. Any candidate for manager who finds these terms appropriate is more than welcome to adopt them.

The Reddit F1 championship subforum.

General regulations.

General regulations:

The championship is essentially a sub-forum game centered on predicting Formula 1 race results. There is no cap on the number of participants; any interested member of the community is free to join in. A participant officially enters the fray by submitting their predictions for a specific Formula 1 season, and their involvement continues until that season concludes or they explicitly state they are stepping away from the competition.
While this championship is fundamentally an individual pursuit, participants may opt to compete as a team by formally registering their partnership under the championship theme. A team's tenure begins officially upon the publication of their team entry and concludes when either player exits the group or withdraws from the competition entirely. Team points are calculated by aggregating the individual championship scores earned by all members during their period of joint participation. Should one participant decide to leave the team, their accumulated championship points remain credited to the group. Regarding team nomenclature, the right to use a specific name belongs to the first participant to register it. In instances where a name was utilized in previous championships, priority is granted to the player who has maintained continuous membership with that team name for the longest duration.
Participants in the game are permitted to enter using only one forum identity at any given time. To put it plainly, having multiple active predictions running under different accounts simultaneously is strictly prohibited.

Setting the stage for our predictions:
Predictions may only be submitted by registered participants, and they must be posted within the designated thread specifically set aside for that purpose.
The deadline to submit your prediction for any individual race is set at a minimum of six hours prior to the scheduled start of qualifying.
Once a prediction is officially submitted, it remains in effect until a new one is posted, an explicit cancellation is made, or the Formula 1 season reaches its conclusion.
The forecast outlines the projected top ten order, identifying which driver is expected to secure pole position and which one is tipped to clock the fastest lap of the race.

The points system:
Points are awarded based strictly on the initial official results at the conclusion of the race. Any subsequent penalties or rulings issued by the FIA are not factored into this calculation. Regarding the points for pole position, the award goes to whoever actually starts from the front of the grid. If a driver secures pole but then incurs a penalty due to a gearbox change, or fails to fire up the engine and is forced to start from the pit lane, they haven't technically started from the first grid position, and thus won't receive those specific points.
Points are distributed according to the following structure:
a) 5 points - awarded for correctly predicting the pole position, the fastest lap, and every single driver's finishing position.
b) 3 points – awarded if your prediction features only one position change from the actual driver finishing order.
c) 1 point – awarded for any prediction that falls within two positions of the driver's actual finishing spot.
d) –3 points - applied to any prediction that fails to be reset in relation to the previous race's forecast.
e) –5 points – if your prediction ends up being an exact duplicate of another player's prediction for the same race.
Points are tallied to establish the participant rankings following each race. These championship points are awarded using the exact same scale applied to drivers during their races—currently following the 25-18-15 distribution.
11. When calculating rankings for an individual race, if two or more players end up tied on points, the tiebreaker goes to the player who scored more points during the first half of their prediction (the top 5 drivers). Should they remain tied after that, the higher rank will be awarded to the player who submitted their predictions earlier.
12. In cases where we are creating a ranking based on carryover points and participants are tied, the participant with the most total wins in the current championship takes precedence. If a tie still exists, the player with more podium finishes or other high placements will be ranked higher, following the same logic down the line. If all these metrics are exhausted and a tie persists, the ranking will favor the participant with the highest single-race score achieved across all completed rounds of the championship up to that point. If that fails to break the tie, we look to their second-best single-race score from the completed rounds, and so on.

Additional provisions:

13. Race results are aggregated and published by the competition manager. If the manager fails to do so within 7 days of a race's conclusion, a new manager will be selected via a majority vote by the active participants in the thread, provided at least 24 hours' notice is given.
14. Participants may vote to replace the manager at any time, provided they can secure the support of at least half of the total participants for the current championship season.
15. Once the round results are posted, participants have a 24-hour window to identify any calculation errors and report them within the thread. After this period expires, the results are considered final and cannot be revised under any circumstances.
16. In the event of a dispute regarding results, the manager will issue a decision. Once that decision is made, it becomes final after 24 hours and cannot be subject to further revision or appeal.
17. If disputes arise concerning the interpretation of the rules, the manager will make a ruling. This decision will be recorded as a general precedent within the general regulations and will apply to all similar future instances.
18. The manager is expected to resolve all controversial situations using common sense; there is no obligation to adhere strictly to the general regulations if it is evident that a specific rule is ill-suited to the unique circumstances at hand.
19. At any point, participants may request a modification to a specific rule, provided they gather the support of at least half of the total participants for the current championship season. Please note that such changes cannot be applied retroactively.
20. Subforum moderators, acting as local authorities, may intervene in the game strictly within their standard moderator powers—specifically to prevent trolling, spamming, or other undesirable behavior. However, they lack the authority to alter the competition rules beyond what is already permitted by these general regulations.

Do you think any of the candidates for manager will actually include something in the general regulations about presenting the winner with champagne, sparkling wine,
or whatever else? It doesn't have to be anything fancy; even a bottle of Budweiser would get the job done.

Perhaps we should consider a system where every driver is required to post a $17 security deposit at the start of the season. Once the championship concludes, those who see the full campaign through to the end would have their deposits returned in full. As for the funds left behind by anyone who drops out mid-season? That pool could be used to purchase a fitting trophy or gift for the champion. 🤣 🤣 🤣

A massive plate of BBQ brisket and a pint of craft beer—maybe even a buy-one-get-one deal.

I’d also settle for some fried calamari and two glasses of red wine.

Or honestly, just a hot, greasy slice of pizza and a cold milkshake.

Matthew Young35 said:Why do you think anything would change if someone just wrote new rules from scratch?
It would be the exact same shit.
The same people would still be trolling.
Just a handful of them, whose sole purpose in life is to troll and nothing else.
Until the moderators hand out four or five permanent bans, there won't be a competition that attracts anyone other than a few trolls.
☕

Yeah... hand out 4 or 5 bans... then we'll have a massive competition with six participants and Matthew Young35 acting as the manager 🙏 assuming he doesn't quit before the season starts... 🙏

Matthew Young35 said:Most people would be incredibly grateful if you actually did shut him up.
☕
Besides, we might actually have a larger field of competitors.

What we have here isn't a real competition; it's an endless loop of debating the rulebook.
The rules aren't here to facilitate the competition; rather, the competition exists merely as an excuse to argue about the rules.

Some people enjoy that dynamic, but most don't. And that is precisely why the number of participants keeps dwindling.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but that's my take on it.

What "vast majority" are we talking about here that would be happy to see me silenced? Did you run some poll among the drivers to get those numbers... or are you just trolling?

By the way, the biggest turnout was back in 2010 when Max was leading the championship.
William Bennett53 said:Alternatively, we could just ban MAXYM from the subforum, and I suspect about 90% of all arguments regarding gaming would vanish instantly.

Just kidding, obviously. MAXYM is a helpful and respected member of this community, and I'm glad he's here—but that doesn't mean my fundamental premises are wrong.

Is that 90% figure based on some scientific formula of yours... or are you just trolling?
stormybadger8 said:I've thought about this quite a bit, but I really don't think that's the fix. 🤷
Because even if Max leaves, some other Max will just take his place...

Max isn't the sole culprit here, and honestly, he might not even be the biggest one... he’s mostly just settling the score for everyone who attacked him while he was leading the championship, doing exactly what a good chunk of people are advocating for now.😉
It was total dictatorship—zero respect for anyone else's opinion... and that wasn't working either. Plus, there was always that talk about favoritism toward him and his teammate, and so on...
And I don't recall Max ever budging even a millimeter on his stances or decisions... though he usually argued them pretty damn well.

The real issue lies primarily with the players. Everyone wants things handed to them on a silver platter, but they won't give that same credit to anyone else... because then they lose something, or they just don't like the guy, or blah blah blah...
Some people just live for finding flaws...

Anyway, I'm heading to bed. I'm done with this for today.🙂

When it comes to hunting for loopholes in the general regulations and throwing around accusations about favoritism toward me and my teammate, you were really the one leading the charge on that one...
I highly doubt anyone’s ever going to penalize their own teammate quite the way I just laid down the law with mine.
redheron12 said:Tell me, though—how can I actually help you with any of this? If a permanent ban would make your time on the forum more pleasant...

Looks like redheron12 went totally dark after that one... Hey Matthew Young35, you finally got rid of one of them! If he was part of that group of four or five people you thought actually deserved a permanent ban, then honestly, props to you. Nice work.
Quote : Dorian
redheron12 said:Accusations of trolling or mindless rule-lawyering are all too often used as an excuse when someone lacks any actual, coherent argument. To me, the "because I'm the host" defense sounds much worse—and nothing is more frustrating than seeing people hide behind moderator authority...

Personally, I find looking for loopholes in the rules to be fun—after all, even in Formula 1, teams constantly push the boundaries of regulations and specs—but it stops being fun when someone tries to force their own agenda through sheer intimidation. Using moderator powers as a hammer is, quite frankly, a form of bullying.

This is actually the whole point of everything...
It’s funny how it works. Whenever someone runs out of actual points to make during an argument, they just pivot and start calling everyone else a troll. It's basically the ultimate white flag.
stormybadger8 said:Well, you've got that wrong.🤣🤣🤣
I know we have three lawyers on this forum😁 they don't hang out here much, but they drop by... two of them even played in all the competitions, as far as I know.😁

The other way is for the Host to write their own set of rules, state their decisions clearly and loudly, back them up with logic, and then refuse to backtrack.
If trolling or arguing starts up, then the moderator can just hand out bans without hesitation...
People can complain all they want afterward, but they chose this Host and these rules themselves; they chose to play.

That's exactly why I'm saying I'll only play if the Host writes their own rules. If we stick to the old ones, I'm out—mostly because of the constant whining and trolling about whether the moderator is biased due to their own results and all that.
But yeah, if I have to ban someone... oh, I definitely will.😍

To be honest, I haven't seen much point in punishing posts like "this is how I thought it meant," or "that's how he intended it," or "this is how we've always done it," because Max wrote those rules... so clearly, nobody can interpret them better than Max, right?
And besides, how is the Host supposed to interpret what Max was thinking when he wrote them? Other players can try to interpret them the same way.
It's ridiculous how many times we've seen nonsense where the Host's decisions are challenged using the logic of what the rule-writer supposedly meant—like, "it says A here but B there," or "why use A instead of B right now?" and so on.

Here’s my take on it:
Max can spend the rest of his life explaining whatever he meant regarding Bjesomar's rule, but for me, the only person who matters when clarifying doubts about that rule is Bjesomar himself.☕
And unfortunately, that same logic works both ways.😬

And even if he actually gives a wise explanation... and then uses that chance to go on a massive trolling spree... if I give him a warning card, it just looks like I'm trying to shut him up, while he plays the poor, innocent guy who's just trying to help explain the rules...
And he’s definitely not the only one pulling that stunt. There are plenty of others... honestly, pretty much everyone involved in those debates ends up doing the same thing eventually.

And why am I the only one you're calling out?
Why aren't you bringing up Dorian and Matthew Young35? Those two absolutely crushed it in these competitions!
I feel like I've been going back and forth with you in pretty much every single thread lately. So, what gives? Are you actually just a troll too?

The truth is actually a little different than what people think... honestly, you could count Max's debates this season on one hand... and even then, some of them weren't even real debates to begin with.

So, in the championship, I put up 2 posts sharing my take on Mom's predictions during round one. Honestly, if I stuck strictly to my own opinion, I would've lost a point myself, but I’ve always cared more about keeping the competition fair than padding my own stats—something some people here clearly don't get. In the end, they decided his prediction wouldn't count, and I didn't say another word about it.
Then I wrote 2 posts regarding Spidey, and once again, the manager made a call that went totally against what I thought was right, but again, I kept my mouth shut.
After that, I sent you a PM saying that Jason Campbell70 should definitely get his points credited, even if it meant one of my direct title rivals gained ground. I didn't push it any further.
And now we have this situation with Terry Carter2, where I laid out a solid argument as to why the results are inconsistent, yet the manager is still refusing to fix the errors.

If we're looking at everything else too...
In the Super League, I was going back and forth with you about the fill-in list and pointed out some mistakes you made... is pointing out a manager's errors considered trolling now? Does that mean you're trolling other tournaments whenever you correct Mom's mistakes?
And then there was that heated debate during the first tournament—it was me and Mom on one side, and you, Dorian, and Paški on the other. During all that, Dorian kept claiming our side was trolling, only for Pangloss to step in at your suggestion with a neutral explanation that was actually identical to mine. So, who was really the troll there? Which side?

Seriously, take a closer look at who's actually trolling in these files... just watch what Dorian does... the constant mocking, the provocations, starting pointless arguments, just trying to stir the pot... lately, he's been targeting Mom more than anyone else. Is it not trolling when Dorian systematically messes with Mom during the championships, in the chat, and over general Formula 1 topics? A little banter is fine, but what he's doing has crossed the line of good taste a long time ago.
I'm the least of anyone's problems on this thread; honestly, I'm practically becoming a weekend-only forum user. You guys will realize I wasn't the issue once I leave, because the trolling will keep happening, and it'll be done by the exact same people currently accusing me of being a troll...
And hey... there's an "ignore" button for anyone who doesn't like what I have to say. Usually, I'm just telling the truth, but I guess that's what hits a nerve for some of you...

Jason Campbell70 said:Interesting "arguments," especially coming from someone who spent the last 24 hours on this thread complaining about how "certain people are trolling."

Since stormybadger8 brought it up...
If MAXYM knows the rulebook better than anyone, we've seen it in every single instance where he's used logic to prove his point during debates over rules—or rather, how they apply to current racing.
Because of that, I honestly think MAXYM would be the perfect candidate for host.
But there's a catch: he can't participate in the next championship as a competitor.

It’s either me or MAXYM. There isn't a third option that works just as well.

If nothing else, I'm glad my suggestion was so well received, whether through the current rulebook or as part of the proposals for a potential one.

I'm with you on that...
Since Max doesn't really have the drive to step up as the manager for the 2013 Reddit F1 championship, I honestly think Jason Campbell70 is our best bet. For the sake of the sport, we should probably just hold off on picking a manager until the season wraps up. That way, we can get a final word from Jason Campbell70. Most of the other people who stepped up to lead before haven't exactly been stellar, and we need the absolute best person for this championship, which is Jason Campbell70.

Matthew Young35: tried to take the reins but bailed before the season even started without setting clear rules.
Terry Carter2: managed the very first race and immediately showed he couldn't explain his calls, leaving the results looking totally messy.
maminho: stepped in a few times briefly, but it wasn't exactly a huge success, plus he's already busy running that other tournament.
asdfg5: basically a clone hiding behind an anonymous profile because they're scared of racer bias—which usually means the original person messed something up.

So, my plea is this: let's just wait until the end of the season. It might be worth the wait, and we don't really lose anything by being patient, but we could gain a lot if we pick right...

Quick question for the mods: what happens if asdfg5 gets picked as manager, but then halfway through next season it turns out they're just a clone of one of the other candidates? How would you guys handle that mess?

I’m also of the opinion that Jason Campbell70 would make an excellent manager. However, much like my view on most others, I believe he ought to be the one to draft the general regulations under which he would preside. 👍

The rules—or more accurately, the guidelines—are exactly where they need to be.
Just an idea in my head.

So, here we are... play or lead? This season, I threw my hat in the ring for the Manager position. I was the only candidate on the list, yet somehow, I still got rejected.

It’s all well and good having them memorized. Still, I suspect there will be those who, should you actually announce your candidacy, decide to act like bureaucrats and demand you present them formally. 😁
I, of course, won't be one of them. 👍

Does it truly have to be an either/or situation? It seems to me that everyone who has signed up so far intends to both play and manage (maminho, Terry Carter2... I'm not sure about that clone fellow, but likely him too). As for your rejection... I expect they'll hold a public poll where the league participants can cast their votes. If that happens, the mods will only have their own voices to contend with. And besides, perhaps one of them might actually vote for you. 😁

Absolutely.

Is there any competition out there where the same person competes and referees at the exact same time?

You don't even see that when kids are playing soccer in preschool.

And naturally, if I were to run, my rules would come with me.

That’s like playing a game of Texas Hold'em and insisting on a fifth "player" who is just there to deal the cards and log the scores. They’d certainly have a blast playing that way!
And frankly, that's nothing compared to the disaster you mentioned—imagine a manager competing against their own clone. That would be infinitely worse.

Watching these competitions from the sidelines gets old fast. I’ve never been able to force myself to follow any events I wasn't personally involved in—aside from that one time I was rooting for Pat—so, out of pure pragmatism, I actually think it might be better if the manager stays out of the fray. Otherwise, they might burn out on this whole thing pretty quickly...

True. Though, you’d need to ensure the players don't start bickering over point totals, who's actually right, or which specific rule applies to what.

Then again, some card games do utilize a neutral dealer.

Does a soccer referee play too, just because running around the field gets tedious?

A player acting as a referee? That doesn't fly anywhere else.
Fine, it flies here in our forum's championship, so let's see what this championship looks like year after year.

The quality of the championship has absolutely nothing to do with whether the manager is an active participant or not!
Comparing this to soccer is a total non-starter. In soccer, officiating happens live on the pitch, whereas management here relies on the long process of analyzing results after the race and applying the general regulations to settle disputes.
Dorian is spot on—managing a championship this way could easily become tedious for someone, or worse, tempt them to stir up drama through dishonest and unethical conduct just to break the monotony.

And we’ve had championships where the manager didn't even play, you know?

Comparing this to football just doesn't work. Football is judged in real-time on the field, whereas management here relies on a long process of analyzing results after the race is over and eventually applying the general regulations to settle any disputes.
No, that wasn't meant to be a comparison to serious football.
That was a bit much—drawing parallels to toddlers playing soccer? A stretch, wasn't it? 😁
What’s even worse? Some of the situations we're seeing in the current championship aren't far off from this at all. 😁

In Formula 1—the subject we’re all dissecting here—there’s a certain pattern that seems to mirror our own domestic championship. Is it really any different over there? Are the race stewards also the drivers competing for the title? 😁

Well, at worst, we might just be looking at another Breivik. 😁

Some people might find it tedious, I suppose. Perhaps that’s why they could be offered something else—like actually posting the results, standings, leaderboards, and podium finishes on time.

Because we all know exactly how things played out—and honestly, how they continue to play out—in this current championship.
Managers are spread too thin lately. We’ve ended up going weeks without seeing any official results or standings posted. Why does that keep happening? 😁

So, look at this. They still haven't even released the podium standings for the Belgian GP. And we're talking about a race that took place nearly three weeks ago—seventeen days, to be exact.

So... "The managers will be bored." That's just more noise being aimed at me, especially since I was the one who suggested the manager shouldn't participate as a player in the first place. 😁

Then again, some card games do utilize a neutral dealer.

That was precisely the intention. 😉

Some players aren't even interested in debating the scoring or the fine print...

Personally, I don't see any reason why the manager couldn't jump in and play too.
If the rules are laid out clearly and the scoring system isn't overly complicated, there really shouldn't be any issues with managing the game.

Exactly, that’s precisely what I was getting at!
I honestly don't see any logical reason why a manager couldn't also be a competitor!
