Saying everything would be sunshine and rainbows if we just picked some outsider to host the championship who isn't even playing... that might actually be the biggest load of nonsense I've read about running this thing since it started.

Let's say next season we pick ........* (*feel free to throw in any former player you want...) someone who, coincidentally, isn't participating in the championship this year...
Then some "controversial situation" pops up, and they make a call that favors their old buddy... whether it's one specific guy or a whole group of them, it's all the same.
The situation doesn't even have to be controversial; it could follow the rules perfectly. It's enough if there's even the slightest hint of ambiguity, or if some person starts making a massive scene just because they were too lazy to actually read the rulebook,
and in their head, it’s perfectly logical that things should work exactly how they imagined them...

And how long do you think it'll take before people start trashing the host's work and whining about favoritism and arguing over results?
Five minutes? Or will the server be such a disaster zone that it takes a little longer than five?🍿
And if anyone tries to hand out warnings or clean up the mess, how long until the talk starts about moderators running a dictatorship and using brute force?

All these ideas sound great on paper.😍
But the real issue is that, up until now, the rules—the ancient ones, mind you—have only been copied over a few minutes before the first race starts, or sometimes even after.
And then, naturally, we find out they're flawed or incomplete, so they get changed after the race to suit whatever the loudest majority wants at that exact moment.☕
As for picking hosts, we basically used a "firefighter approach"—we wait for a crisis to happen, realize we don't have anyone, or realize the current person has had enough, and then we scramble to pick someone when it's already way too late.

It’ll be the same old story. During the season, nobody will discuss anything important... and once the season ends, nobody will be around to debate or vote anyway.
Then, a month before the start, everyone will start bickering about everything except who the host should be, let alone the actual rules.
And a couple of weeks before the season kicks off, someone will start rambling about spreadsheets, colors, numbers, podiums, team names, etc.
Everyone will have a blast debating nonsense while completely forgetting that we don't even have rules or a host yet... but hey, there's always time.😍

Seriously, there's absolutely no need to agree on anything before this season ends. We'll just hammer out the rules after the first race and everything will be just fine.😍

That's my two cents.🙂
You guys go ahead and keep entertaining yourselves with stupidity instead of signing up to host or actually discussing the rules.

Terry Carter2 will let me know when the poll opens and who goes on it, so reach out to him if you actually have the drive to help.😁
Me? I'm happily skipping this thread. I just don't have the energy to read the same old story all over again.

So you're still standing by that host who isn't even a player?
Let’s just say if things had been set up this way from the start, we wouldn't be dealing with all this endless arguing over technicalities. You know the type—rules that people still drag out in every single competition today, mostly written just to favor some teammate.

stormybadger8 said:Suppose we picked a new host for next season... someone from our past roster who isn't actually competing in the championship right now? Just a thought.
And then, inevitably, some "controversial situation" pops up, and he makes the call right in favor of his former teammate...

Can a host decide to favor their own teammate? Absolutely.

What's the issue? 😍

stormybadger8 Asks:
A situation doesn't even have to be controversial to cause trouble. It could be perfectly within the rules. It’s enough if there's even the slightest hint of ambiguity, or if someone just decides to make a scene simply because they were too lazy to actually read the rulebook.
And it’s perfectly logical to him that things should work exactly the way he imagined they would... isn't it?

How long do you think it will take before people start trashing the host's work? When does the talk about favoritism and arguing over the results actually begin?
Five minutes? Or is the server completely fried and we should probably expect it to take a bit longer?🍿
How long does it take? If they start banning and wiping posts, how long until people start talking about moderators running a dictatorship?

It happened every single season, during every single competition.
Don't go doing that. It isn't because the host is someone's teammate or anything like that. It's simply because many people—the host included—don't actually know the rules of the competition they're participating in. Or perhaps they just don't want to admit when the rules say a competitor deserves what's rightfully theirs?

Oh, and one more suggestion.

Since the championship is set for some major changes, I propose we scrap the other competitions entirely.
Just like in actual Formula 1, there aren't any side tournaments, leagues, or betting pools.
There is only one single championship.

We have a subforum that regularly sees fewer active members than, say, the number of people currently signed up for the Championship, yet we still maintain three separate competitions.
Meanwhile, only a tiny handful of users actually participate in the tournament or the superleague.

I realize this last idea might seem a bit too revolutionary for some, regardless of how logical or practical it seems to me.

If I recall correctly, I was the one who suggested this a few months back. Now, given the collapse of the Super League and the tournament structure, it makes even more sense. To be honest, I find the tournament format to be a superior competition—it’s more dynamic and engaging—but since a championship is played as a team effort over the course of an entire year, that’s why I’d lean toward keeping it. (Don't get me wrong, I still don't believe a club championship should be used as the criteria for filling spots in the Super League.)

That said, I know at least two key players are determined to keep all these competitions alive and will fight to ensure they survive. So, it will likely stay. 👍

Regarding the whole idea of hosts sitting this one out, I think there’s really just one major downside: you lose a competitor. And honestly, it’s even worse when that person is someone fighting for the title this season. That’s actually my main reason for why I wouldn't consider bowing out of the game just because I was chosen as the host. In my opinion, having someone who’s already won ten titles here—someone who has been a constant title contender in every single championship we've run—not participating would just tank the quality of the player pool. It’d be an irreplaceable hit to how competitive the whole thing feels.
Besides that, I don't see any other reason why hosts playing would be a disadvantage compared to them sitting out. If anything, it’s a massive plus for Jason Campbell70 compared to the other candidates for the host role.

It makes zero sense to let our time slip away while this topic keeps sinking lower in the rankings. We need to wrap up the registration phase and finalize the rule proposals so we can finally move on to the final vote.
There is absolutely no reason to wait until the end of the season; if we do that, half of you will have already moved on to other PDFs anyway.
I am actually planning some cosmetic tweaks to the rules myself, which I’ll be presenting to you shortly.
We will define the final deadline for entries soon, so if you’re interested, you better hurry up.

Let me just ask so I don't waste my own time..

Eli, does this championship have specific rules, or can I make up whatever I want if I decide to host it?

Also, on a side note, why are there three different competitions listed here on this subforum?

Look, I want to get this running, but from what I can see, none of them are actually working right now. Regardless, just give me an answer to my first question..

Actually, there aren't any! Maybe it’s high time for some revolutionary changes!
That’s exactly why we have a poll up—so we can vote on the rules and choose the host that actually suits us best.

Was digging around online today and stumbled onto this.

Rules are simple, pick 10 drivers you think will finish the race in the points and place them in the order of which you think they will finish. points are awarded according to the difference between your selection and the race result, providing the selected driver's score in points.
o Picking driver in correct place earns 25 points.
o One place out earns 18 points.
o Two place out earns 15 points.
o Three places out earns 12 points.
o Four places out earns 10 points.
o Five places out earns 8 points.
o Six places out earns 6 points.
o Seven places out earns 4 point.
o Eight places out earns 2 points.
o Nine places out earns 1 point.
Maximum points per race is 250.

Example for the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix:

Tip / Result: Points

1: Sebastian Vettel / 2nd: 18 points
2: Lewis Hamilton / ret: 0 points
3: Mark Webber / 1st: 15 points
4: Jenson Button / 3rd: 18 points
5: Kamui Kobayashi/ 9th: 10 points
6: Michael Schumacher / 15th: 0 points
7: Nico Rosberg/ 7th: 25 points
8: Buemi / 12th: 0 points
9: Fernando Alonso / 4th: 8 points
10: Vitaly Petrov / 10th: 25 points

Therefore my overall score for Brazil would be:
134 points

The person who has the most points by the end of the season wins the championship.

Your picks must be entered before Friday Practice 1 and can be changed any time before the session starts (just be sure to let me know). Any late picks will incur a penalty depending on how many sessions have passed.
-15 points for FP1
-18 points for FP2
-25 points for SP1
-DSQ for Qual

Clever scoring system, actually quite interesting.😁
Really like the part about the practice sessions...

All I really care about is whether one of the candidates will actually commit to seeing the entire championship through. Everything else is secondary. It’s easy enough to agree on the rules and fine-tune them as we go, provided we have one consistent host. I'd much rather deal with rule adjustments than having more different hosts throughout the season than actual competitors. 🙂

That is certainly a valid point; having a steady, reliable host would be a significant asset to us. However, establishing a solid set of rules before the season kicks off is absolutely imperative. Without that foundation, endless arguments are virtually guaranteed. In my view, we need a clear, straightforward rulebook, along with a strict prohibition on debating those rules or their enforcement within the main threads. If necessary, we could always open a dedicated thread specifically for grievances regarding the rules and their application—much like how we currently have this specific thread for selecting a host, which avoids cluttering the active competition. This way, such debates don't devolve into endless trolling cycles that only serve to exhaust those who aren't interested in the drama or aren't even participating in the game.

A stable host, you say...

Hasn't maminho stepped down from hosting our forum's F1 championship?
And hasn't Bjesomar also vacated his leadership role (he's stepped away as a player too, by the way)?

I'm not making any claims; I'm just thinking out loud.

It almost feels as though you’re attempting to construct some sort of intentionally flawed deductive argument just to suggest that stability isn't a priority. The reality, however, is simply that it isn't enough.

And as for his mother, the kid is already dominating both the Super League and the tournament; perhaps we shouldn't push him to compete in the championship as well...

Let me clarify my own position here!
I believe the championship should maintain a core structure similar to the actual Formula 1 season. We should stick to teams consisting of two drivers, the standard scoring system of 25, 18, 15..., and so on. If we don't, we'll just end up creating a completely different type of competition that doesn't even deserve to carry the title of "Championship." While that isn't an impossible outcome, I still say...

I’m on board with this too.
Honestly, maybe we shouldn't try to reinvent the wheel every single time; sometimes just copying a proven scoring system works perfectly fine.

I honestly think anyone could make that promise—which is really just a fancy way of saying nobody can truly guarantee it.
The conclusion of the ESPN F1 Championship 2013 isn't for another year, and if history has taught us anything, it's that plenty of people join this league with the sole intention of ousting the current host. It makes any kind of guarantee feel pretty hollow.
As the old saying goes: "Who knows what's coming?"

Here’s how I envision the scoring system—simple, yet engaging, with a few tweaks to introduce some tactical depth...

Scoring System

Race Winner 2 points
Podium 6 points (3x2)
Points Scorers 20 points (10x2)
Fastest Lap 2 points
10 Driver Duels 20 points (10x2)

Total possible points: 50

Winner, Podium, Points Scorers

- Post-race penalties determined by the FIA are factored in.
- You aren't guessing specific finishing orders; you just need to pick who makes the podium or hits the top 10, regardless of their exact rank.

Duels

- No later than 7 days before a race, the previous round's winner must set 10 duels for the upcoming round.
- A single driver can be involved in a maximum of 3 duels.
- If both drivers DNF, the duel is canceled.

Box

- Each player is allowed a maximum of 3 "Box" entries before the race starts.
- During a single Box entry, you can make up to 2 changes to your prediction.
- Using a Box entry automatically deducts one point from your total score.

Setting Pairs

- Setting pairs for a race is open from the start of the Grand Prix weekend (Monday) until 5 minutes before lights out.
- In the event of a tie in total points, priority goes to those who set their pairs earlier and they take the higher position.

Scoring Rules:

- Follows the standard Formula 1 logic (25-18-15-12...).
- Tiebreakers are decided by counting most wins, then second places, third places, etc.
- Teams with a maximum of 2 members are scored just like in Formula 1.

Sanctions

- Dropping out of the competition (missing 2 races) mid-season without a valid reason results in disqualification and being blacklisted, which prevents participation in any other competitions on this subforum.

- Any attempts at cheating will result in a 10-point deduction from that round's total. If repeated twice, the user is disqualified and faces the same sanctions as someone dropping out mid-season (see above).

Competition Topics

- I think the official thread should only be used for predictions and Box entries so everything stays organized in one spot. For all discussions, let's just open a separate chat topic.

So, there it is. Hopefully, I haven't missed anything; if it's too simple, I can easily fix it.😉
