Look, my point wasn't that the current regulations are fundamentally broken; rather, I believe certain details just need to be simplified or clarified.
I think we should stick to the core concept of the rules, though we could potentially overhaul the scoring system or how we handle forecasting. I haven't proposed anything radical here, but other candidates certainly have! That said, I am more than willing to refine the rules if it becomes necessary.
As the current commissioner, I feel far too much sweat and effort went into crafting our existing framework to just toss it all in the trash. If we don't go with a new set of rules, I am perfectly prepared to continue running the championship under the current ones.
😁

To put it bluntly—you aren't really offering anything new.

Fair enough. ☕

I’m dropping the forecasts right after the first and second free practice sessions, but definitely BEFORE the third one hits! Honestly, I couldn't care less if the deadline stays at 3:00 AM or if it shifts to just before the third practice starts—whatever. The only thing that actually matters is getting this out there before that third session kicks off.

@stormybadger8 - I suspect those of us who have weighed in on the rules—not just regarding the moderator's identity—all share a common sentiment: things need to be simplified. Along those lines, the suggestion from darkmarlin16 that predictions must be submitted a full day before the scheduled start of Free Practice 3 sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Personally, I don't see much value in docking points for late entries. It makes me wonder, though, if we should also consider my own proposal regarding secondary point penalties for players who submit the exact same prediction for multiple races in a row? Such a rule would offer clear advantages: it’s easy to track, since we can already see who hasn't updated their picks, and it serves as a nudge for everyone to stay engaged. Your suggestion, however, strikes me as something that would primarily cause administrative headaches.

Furthermore, I believe the main championship thread should strictly prohibit any disputes over rules or scoring. Aside from posting predictions, there shouldn't be any debate allowed there at all. Doing so would keep the competition clean and prevent the kind of constant back-and-forth that ultimately discourages people from participating.

It’s time to finally wrap this selection process up. I am setting a hard deadline for all survey submissions: October 14, 2012, at 08:00—right when the South Korean Grand Prix gets underway.
Please let me know if you need to make any adjustments to your current entries, or if you’d like to step up as a new candidate with your own set of rules.

The deadline is looming...
We’re going to be scrubbing any incomplete applications from the survey—that means if you have a leader without clear rules, or rules without a leader, you’re out. So, get your act together, finalize those details, submit your candidacy, and for heaven's sake, hurry up!

Tyler Bennett5 and darkmarlin16 are both out of the loop right now; whether they've simply moved on or their time has run out remains to be seen, but while they aren't here, there is really no point in trying to reach any conclusions...

I don't get it... why does Terry Carter2 get to run for more than one position? And to make matters worse, for one of those roles, he just copied someone else's rulebook, slapped on a few cosmetic tweaks, and called it his own.
Isn't the whole point that everyone should write their own rules from scratch? That way, they actually understand what they're doing and can actually follow through on them.

What's really the issue here? Why reinvent the wheel if most of the existing rules don't actually need changing? Let's not get ahead of ourselves...

Well, here's the kicker: from what I can see, he's the one running this whole election, and now suddenly he's in a massive rush. It’s funny because he previously said there was zero hurry. He's basically got just two candidates to choose from, and he's the only one who hasn't stuck to his word—to be fair, he did say every candidate should draft their own set of rules. But one of these two candidacies is just a total copy-paste of the current rules, which he hasn't even bothered to touch... so yeah, more problems there. It looks like a straight-up conflict of interest... wouldn't you say?

It isn't a "conflict of interest." The truth is simpler: I am trying every possible avenue to reclaim my position as director, even if I have to resort to being a bit underhanded to get there. Don't forget that serving as the director for this championship is one of the greatest achievements of my life, so letting go of it isn't easy for me. Unfortunately, I have you—the only person who actually saw through my act—and now I'm at a loss! Hmm, maybe I should look into having someone like you disqualified from the selection process for director as well!

I wouldn't want to sound too trivial right when things are getting serious, lest you start looking suspicious yourself😬

I’m proposing that we require an absolute majority for any poll winner. If nobody hits that mark, the top two contenders should head straight into a runoff.
Or does anyone have a better suggestion!?
Get those entries in quickly; the deadline is looming!

I’m actually against doing two rounds of voting because it just plays right into the hands of anyone running multiple candidacies.

Anyway, I’ve noticed nobody has actually clarified who gets to cast a vote in these elections...
Is it just anyone, regardless of whether they plan to compete next year?
Or is it strictly the active competitors from the current championship?
Maybe all competitors in the current championship, even if they aren't playing next year?
What about everyone competing in any event this season?
Or—and this sounds crazy—every single competitor from every single season we've ever had, obviously excluding clones since we have no clue who's showing up next year?
And what about competitors who can't even access the subforum right now (you know, the banned guys or those dealing with partial restrictions), since they’re technically still competitors too?

We really need to nail this down before the voting officially kicks off.

So, what exactly are you proposing?

I say we definitely need a way to let those competitors vote if they can't get to the PDF right when the election hits—maybe just have them weigh in over on the F1 thread in the off section.
As for everything else, I think the best move would be giving voting rights to anyone who’s actually competed before. Basically, if you've stepped onto the track for even one race in any competition (whether it's a league or a tournament) over the last four seasons, you should have a say. Of course, we gotta stay sharp against clone accounts and people who just "promise" they'll show up next year but have never actually participated in anything. We'll definitely run into folks who click a name just because, even if they aren't playing, which means we'd end up having to manually tally the votes anyway. The only exceptions to this rule should be asdfg5 and bambus17; since they haven't officially competed yet but are running for leadership, we should let them cast their own votes if they want to.😁

Edward Howard2 Asks:
I’d suggest we find some way to let those competitors vote if they can't access the PDF during the election—perhaps by letting them weigh in on the F1 topic over on the OFF forum.
Regarding the other options—I honestly think the fairest approach would be to grant voting rights to anyone who has actually competed in any capacity over the last four seasons—meaning anyone who stepped onto the track for even a single race in the SL or any tournament. Of course, we’d need safeguards against bot accounts and those people who promise they'll show up next year but have never actually participated—we all know there will be folks who click a name without intending to compete, which just leaves us having to manually recount everything at the end. The only exception should be candidates like asdfg5 and bambus17; since they haven't competed yet but are running for leadership, they should be allowed to cast their own votes if they choose to. 😁

The winner is ultimately whoever manages to win over Maminh—with that many clones running around, they could probably take on the entire Republican Party and their dead voters combined, let alone everyone else on this forum. 👍

Alright, it's almost time to cast our votes!
We’re setting up the voting process so that everyone who participated in any of the competitions listed in this PDF over the last four seasons gets an equal say (following Edward Howard2's suggestion). New candidates are also entitled to vote. Just to be clear: trying to rig the system by voting multiple times with clone accounts is strictly forbidden.
For a proposal to pass, it needs to secure an absolute majority. If we don't reach that threshold, we will launch a runoff election featuring only the top-performing proposals.

One of my teammates just quit on me—so now I'm really questioning if I’ll be playing next season at all. Still, am I allowed to cast my vote?

Of course you can. Honestly, without your vote, this whole poll would basically be invalid!

Unfortunately, we’re going to have to pull the suggestions from darkmarlin16 and Dorian out of the poll since they aren't fully fleshed out.
