...and Shana fest, based on the novel by Michelle Wildgen.
The cast features Hilary Swank, Emmy Rossum and Josh Duhamel.

Solid drama. It actually reminded me a bit of The Intouchables (2011). Definitely worth a watch.

Such a beautiful movie, honestly—it really hits you right in the feels. Hilary Swank and Emmy Rossum and Josh Duhamel were both absolutely incredible, though I have to admit, their performances felt very much in line with the kind of roles they usually nail. Still, I can't recommend it enough! 🙂

Yeah, it was a total tearjerker. I was sobbing my eyes out by the end,
it really hit me right in the feels.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "typical,"
so if you could walk me through that, I'd appreciate it.

Man, whenever I think back to this movie, I honestly get chills. 🙂
It’s just such a heavy, beautiful ride.
The casting was spot on, the acting was incredible, and the story? Even better.

10/10

Regarding that whole "typical role" comment, I think rustydrifter10 probably just meant the actors really nailed their parts and seemed totally comfortable in their own skin there. Like, Hillary is just one of those actresses who is naturally gifted at those deeply emotional roles—most of her stuff leans that way anyway. You look at a movie like P. S. I love you, for example, and she played a super emotional character there too. 🙂

Yeah, Hillary is great. She was also amazing in Boys Don't Cry (1999). I don't see a dedicated thread for Boys Don't Cry here, which is a bummer. You seen it? If not, definitely check it out.

As for P. S. I love you, I watched it a few years back, but didn't finish it. Honestly, it wasn't my favorite, but maybe that’s because I was watching it with someone who kept complaining about how boring it was the whole time. That probably ruined the vibe. 🤷

I think rustydrifter10 hit the nail on the head with that explanation. It seems like most of their roles follow pretty similar patterns; for instance, Hillary tends to gravitate toward those deeply emotional, tragic characters—the kind of good souls who either endure something devastating or spend the whole story just trying to process it. On the other hand, Emmy usually plays those more unpolished, messy types, like people who are struggling to fit in or are just a bit too much for society to handle, and everyone else is trying to fix them. At least, that’s how I’ve seen it, though I haven't sat through every single thing they've ever done. Honestly, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing, because in this particular movie, those specific vibes worked perfectly for them.
