Proposal for a new (potentially most engaging) PDF layout

And honestly, it’s a shame we don't pay more attention to what this user actually puts out there.

It makes sense that the chat gets shut down after one person snaps like that; management assumes the whole conversation is veering off course. Ideally, people like this should be dealt with immediately. This individual is a total Jackal who refuses to back down, and they even operated under a different handle when their main account was suspended—completely flying under the radar despite multiple reports. Because of people like this, an innocent bystander ended up getting penalized while the actual provocateur didn't face a single consequence.

Does that seem fair to you?

I'm totally with you on this one... It hasn't been made clear enough that under US law, making physical threats is a serious criminal offense, and having some random username or an alt account isn't going to protect you. If you call the police, they’re going to show up at your door, and then everyone involved is stuck dealing with the legal system for a long time... let alone if someone decides to take matters into their own hands. Once things go past the screen, it's way beyond anything happening on a forum.

If we're talking about the whole "problem" here, I think the solution is already right in front of us: just hit the ignore button. We don't need a massive new rulebook or a formal policy for that. As for people being rude or insulting one another? Well, they're going to do it regardless of the rules, and since there aren't any real consequences anyway, it's basically a non-issue. If it's not a real problem, there's no point in trying to engineer a fix for it...

The solution was fine. L3go handled it properly. But then you showed up, along with Kate Walker54 and the rest of the trolls from Off topic who reacted to our specific discussions by whining, reporting, and sulking (you even sent me PMs whining and begging me not to mess with Kate Walker54)...

When I decided to ignore you, you actually increased your activity because you thrive on chaos. Then, when someone hits back, suddenly you're innocent and clueless.

The solution for you and the other trolls is to open a PDF where I can explain a few things clearly without being reported or banned. Then you'll see how quickly you leave.

This thread is proof that such a PDF is necessary for the forum.

On a different note, having a sub-forum or a specific thread where moderation isn't enforced and insults are allowed would only make sense if the debate was actually about a specific topic. For instance, over on the main board, there’s that one thread dedicated to Richard Cook9 where people move their arguments there if they start picking fights elsewhere. The whole point is to let heated debates play out without holding back, using whatever language feels right to them...
Personally, I don't think that could work for the "Random Stuff" chat because it isn't focused on any particular subject. About 90% of the fighting and intense arguing there just boils down to people not liking each other personally...

Generally speaking, having a subforum or even just a thread where moderation isn't enforced and insults are permitted only makes sense if the debate is actually centered on a specific topic. For instance, over at Reddit, they have those "venting" threads where people move posts if someone starts picking fights elsewhere; the whole point there is to allow heated arguments without holding back, using whatever language fits the mood...

I don't want anyone to feel targeted here, but honestly, there’s zero chance that subforum will actually happen based on how it was laid out in the intro post. Looking at how people are already signing up for this thread, I get the feeling the mods are just waiting for us to start bickering so they have written proof that this whole chat is becoming too much to handle. 🙂

As long as Jackal, also known as Richard Cook9, gets away with swearing under the guise of irony, Lord Flashheart insults women just because he won't meet them in person—even after traveling all the way from New York City to Los Angeles with a bottle of wine—and various people like Kate Walker54, silentmarlin76, and others from Offtopic show up just to troll the users who aren't even allowed to post there (someone should note the blatant injustice and the massive space provided for trolling by these Offtopic users)... managing this chat is a nightmare.

Fixing a few flaws and restoring the normal state of the chat from a few weeks ago isn't difficult.

He’s been targeting me constantly without me even engaging him—it’s all right there in the chat logs if anyone actually bothers to look.

I'm not fully caught up on this recent fallout with those Offtopic folks, but it could have just as easily been a group coming over from, say, the Ford subforum, and you'd be calling them provocateurs too... 🤷

This utopian idea of a subforum where moderation is handled loosely reminds me of when early American message boards were still young and everyone basically knew each other. Times have changed. Sure, there were periods when the chat worked perfectly, but the only way to keep newcomers from taking over is for us to stick together, rather than having five new petty arguments pop up every week that never actually get resolved. Honestly, we need an official mediator, not just a moderator!😬

You can actually still get a hold of L3go even if the thread has been locked down. It doesn't matter if they've deleted posts, handed out warnings, or issued bans—they’ll still find a way to reach out.

Regarding the Offtopic section, I wouldn't say you haven't had plenty of chances to just... you know, have a "normal" chat and actually hang out. After I shut down that first thread—mostly because my inbox was absolutely slammed with reports about everyone insulting one another and breaking the site rules—my takeaway was basically that none of you have any self-control.

So, after all that chaos, someone decided to kick off yet another thread in Offtopic, probably thinking they could just pick up right where they left off since I might not notice where things were heading. Anyway, I figured I’d give you a pass and let you chat again, but of course, you immediately went right back to your old ways. You guys just can't help yourselves, and honestly, I don't think there's a moderator out there willing to cut you some slack and give you a space to socialize if you're constantly going to insist on breaking the rules.

As for the Offtopic area, you had your shot. Not just once, either, but several times. There just isn't room here for those kinds of "chat" threads.
