Watching this whole debate unfold, I’ve gotta say a few things.
Last year, Red Bull basically opted for the simplest strategy in the book... and it was basically "don't worry about being the F1 champion, just don't be the champion paired with Webber." They somehow stumbled into luck at the very end and walked away with the title thanks to Vettel.
And honestly, it doesn't even matter that Webber is a tier below Vettel in terms of raw talent.
Webber just had one of those weird "out of body" moments last season—the kind of thing that happens to even the mediocre drivers (kind of like what happened to Massa back in the day).
I can't quite wrap my head around it, but the plain truth is that Webber was performing way above his weight class last year. Even if you argue Vettel was struggling or too green or whatever, the fact remains that in several races, Webber was actually faster than Vettel.
Dammit... I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Edit: It’s also a complete mystery to me—for those who actually remember—how Gerhard Berger always seemed to be absolutely legendary (and winning!) at Hockenheim (that old, high-speed version), yet on any other track, he wasn't even in the conversation for a podium.

Regardless, even if everyone labeled Jenson the number one driver and he didn't have that trophy under his belt, nothing changes. Who could actually catch those aliens? 14 races, 9 wins, 13 podiums. His worst result was 4th. Let's be real.🤣 If he doesn't crash one of them out before the finish, nobody stands a chance of passing him; they'd have to screw up big time to even get close.😁

Sure, but if Jenson's McLaren had been more reliable, and if Jenson himself hadn't made those strategy blunders, the pressure on Vettel would have been significantly higher. Vettel hasn't really felt much heat from the rest of the field this season. It's interesting to think how Red Bull might have reacted, and how Vettel himself would have handled it.

Unfortunately, everything this year just fell perfectly into place for Seb. Add to that how phenomenal he was with tire management—probably the best on the entire grid—and what happened was exactly what Clark described: the perfect symbiosis between driver and car. The Holy Grail of Formula 1.

On top of that, McLaren and Ferrari were busy taking points off each other. If you want to find the person most responsible for Seb's title (besides himself), it's probably Alonso. He managed to mess with McLaren's rhythm using the slowest car in the top three, and McLaren only made things worse with their idiotic mistakes and unexpected reliability issues.

That's how the season wrapped up, but I'm certain Red Bull won't be quite this dominant next year.

The one silver lining here is that for two seasons running now—this one being a bit less obvious—we have three teams capable of winning. That means six drivers who can actually go wheel-to-wheel on track.

For me, this season has been great. It met all my expectations, except for one thing, but hey, you can't win them all.

I don't know about that... If Button had been more reliable, Vettel might have been sweating as much as Button did during his championship run, but he still would've pulled it off much easier.

And I disagree on the six drivers part. It's more like five. You can't count the first guy. 😉
