I really appreciate your perspective; I’m completely on board with what you said. I'm currently waiting to hear back from my endocrinologist, and I managed to snag an appointment with my dermatologist as well.

Best regards,

Maria Fisher46 said:Dear lady,

It wouldn't be considered hypoglycemia, as we typically define that during pregnancy as glucose levels dropping below 63 mg/dL (or sometimes even 59 mg/dL).

The pattern you saw on your OGTT isn't standard, given that we usually look for a steady decline in sugar levels.

What’s most unusual is seeing that initial drop in the first hour while the second hour shows lower values despite higher readings in that first hour—though I suppose that does happen occasionally.

The exact significance of such a pattern during an OGTT remains unclear. Some studies have followed pregnant women who experienced true hypoglycemia (below 63 mg/dL)—which almost always occurs after the two-hour mark rather than the one-hour mark—and found that these episodes were often linked to eventually meeting the criteria for gestational diabetes, especially regarding fasting glucose.

However, that doesn't apply here since you didn't meet the primary threshold of dipping below 63 mg/dL.

Perhaps the wisest move would be to coordinate with your OB/GYN to decide on a monitoring strategy, particularly since you're feeling so unwell.

Thank you so much for the response! I spoke with my OB/GYN, and she’s actually quite happy with the results. She thinks my anemia is a much bigger concern than this sugar dip and attributed all my symptoms to that instead of the glucose. My symptoms are pretty classic—dizziness, fatigue, and heart palpitations—but I also deal with intense hunger and constant cravings for sweets and carbs, which leads to weight gain. She mentioned that could also be due to my low blood pressure (90/50).
I totally get why a doctor might just glance at the reference ranges and react based on whether they fall within the norm without digging deeper—that's not their specialty—but I think I'll take the initiative and go for another OGTT just to see if this was a fluke or if something is actually off.
It's honestly overwhelming because I can't tell which symptom is coming from what. Between the strange glucose readings, low blood pressure, anemia, recovering from COVID-19, and the pregnancy itself, there is just so much going on at once.
Anyway, I'm going to try a different lab for the next test—one that uses a proper glucose solution rather than that thick syrup they gave me. I didn't end up with diarrhea from that stuff, so maybe I can compare how I feel with and without those digestive issues. 😁

I had some blood and urine tests done today.

My doctor ordered them during my annual physical.

Hello,

To interpret these results, we need context. Why were these tests ordered in the first place? Are you experiencing any symptoms, or do you have any existing medical conditions? Have you seen similar fluctuations in past lab work? Also, consider things like your activity level—are you an athlete, or did you push yourself physically right before the draw? Please review the guidelines in the opening post of this thread and provide those details so we can better assist you.

Iron 17.8 (11-32.2)
Total bilirubin 20.20 (2.0-21.0)
Direct bilirubin 3.00 (
I also ran a urinalysis and a full CBC. Not sure if I even need to post those, but everything looks fine. Nothing is even touching the borderline; most values are sitting right in the middle of the reference range.

I'm 21. Did these tests just as a routine check since the last time I had bloodwork done was back in 2013. Just curious to see where things stand. As far as I know, I don't have any other medical issues, though I dealt with some arrhythmia occasionally in the past.

Lately—over the last year—I haven't been watching my diet or staying active. I've gained some weight; went from my ideal 203 lbs up to 242 lbs, currently at about 231 lbs, and I'm trying to bring it down. I started hitting the gym and immediately cut out all the junk. I've gone back to the healthy habits I used to have before COVID hit. Around New Year's, I was eating a lot of jerky; generally, I've always liked eating jerky and eggs.

Hey Nicholas Myers, brightgull95, and everyone else,

You guys know me—I’m pretty much a regular on all these forums by now thanks to my endless list of physical issues that are starting to mess with my head because, honestly, I'm feeling totally dysfunctional.

So, here’s the deal: constant low-grade fever, body aches everywhere, fainting spells, migraines, insulin resistance, Vitamin D deficiency, frequent diarrhea, and this bone-deep exhaustion that doesn't go away even after sleeping or doing light exercise. My immunologist ran some tests, and apparently, it’s not rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. But, get this—she says my HLA typing suggests there's a high chance I have inflammatory bowel disease, which might explain those middle-of-the-night bathroom trips (though I used to just blame my crappy diet). I'm waiting on a colonoscopy now. On the bright side, my cardiology checkup came back clean.

On the morning of December 20th, I woke up with this insane pressure in my temples. I thought, "Okay, here comes a migraine." But the migraine never actually hit; instead, I just had this weird headache hanging over me all day. It lasted a few days, and then that pressure turned into tingling. This tingling sensation would hit my temples and spread down into my cheekbones. Every single day it got more intense, mostly on the right side. After ten days of this, I finally saw my doctor, who told me it was probably just linked to my migraines and my neck. She suggested I take some Excedrin and get a massage. Well, I took the meds, I got the massage, and... absolutely nothing. It’s been 20 days now and my temples are still tingling, pressing, driving me crazy...

Then today, my endocrinologist calls me to say my latest lab results finally arrived after seven months (!!!!!). My Vitamin D is still low, but my calcium levels are way too high. She told me to stop taking the Vitamin D immediately until I can re-test my calcium.

I don't have the actual report in front of me, but my question is: could these neurological issues be connected to having too much calcium in my system?
It feels a bit like temporal arteritis, but I'm really hoping that's not it since my jaw doesn't hurt when I chew and I'm not even 40 yet... 🙈

Thanks in advance to everyone for reading and for any help you can give.

Hey!
I remember you mentioning your anxiety before. About that calcium thing—it's likely spiked because you were taking D3 without any K2. You should look on iHerb for a highly-rated D3K2 supplement, maybe something around 5000 IU.
As for the rest, I honestly don't know if it's psychosomatic or something physical.
Good luck.

Hey, I need to renew my driver's license, which means heading in for a medical exam. They’re going to pull some blood and then go over all my results—blood work, psychological evaluations, the whole nine yards. Here’s the catch: I really need to claim I'm not on any medication, even though I actually am taking a few things. I don't take them here in the States, though. I guess I'm wondering if they can actually spot specific medications in a standard blood panel. Is this kind of testing usually just basic screening, or is it more thorough than that? Basically, I'm trying to figure out if there's a chance I could get caught in a lie.

Later,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I don't have any symptoms and I'm not dealing with any illnesses...

No specific instructions from a doctor either. I just get these routine panels done twice a year on my own initiative.

My iron levels and urinalysis have always been totally fine in the past.

Not really into sports.

No intense physical exertion beforehand...

Appreciate the help...

While we wait on the CT results, I was looking at this ultrasound report. It mentions an area near the navel that looks clear, but there's no blood flow detected and the cause is unknown. Should I be worried? Is that something dangerous?
All my other organs came back looking fine.

Look, if we're basing this on just one single data point, it’s probably not the case. But honestly, what was the actual reason they even ordered an abdominal ultrasound in the first place? Was it just some random finding? Has anyone from the medical team actually weighed in yet on what could realistically be causing that cyst?

She went in for an abdominal and kidney ultrasound because her urinalysis came back looking pretty rough. She finished a course of antibiotics, so she’s doing fine now. The ultrasound showed her kidneys look good enough.
The doctor is waiting on a CT scan for the final word; since she’s carrying some extra weight, it’s a bit hard to get a clear reading, and he didn't want to guess.

As for the urine results, those were flagged after she went in for some bloodwork related to her blood pressure. Things got a little chaotic after her third vaccine dose, but she's stabilized now that they switched up her medication.

To the poster,

The symptoms you're describing can't be explained by elevated calcium alone. The specific concentration matters significantly. Finding hypercalcemia alongside low Vitamin D is an unusual combination that warrants investigation. Furthermore, diarrhea isn't typically paired with high calcium; usually, you'd see constipation. Then there are these systemic symptoms that remain unexplained, even if the rheumatologist has ruled out autoimmune disease.

Beyond the fact that this constellation of lab results is atypical, most of your complaints can't be attributed solely to high calcium, and further diagnostic work is clearly needed. Unfortunately, I can't say much more at this point.
