feraljackal2 said:Hi there,

Could anyone share their thoughts on some thyroid lab results? It’s for a 25-year-old woman—any insights would be appreciated.

TSH—is there anything more frustratingly vague than a single number on a lab report? One minute everything seems fine, and the next, you're left wondering if it actually tells you the whole story. 1,92 The reference range is 0.5–3.6—does that seem within the normal window to you?

Anti-Tg (TgaAT)—is this something you're keeping an eye on? 230,50 The reference range sits at 5-100 IU/mL—does that seem within the expected window for you?
Anti-TPO (MsAT)—could this be the missing piece of the puzzle? 183,30 The reference range is 1–16 IU/mL—does that seem within the normal limits to you?

Thanks!

Immunotherapy principles—specifically when maintaining euthyroidism—can be quite nuanced, don't you think?

Thanks! My GP said everything looks fine—she just wants her to check back in six months.

Do you agree with that approach—or would it be better to run some more detailed tests (like HHS, etc.)?

I just got my 24-hour urine cortisol results back, and this is what they look like.

Cortisol Results: 108 - 8h (Range: 138-690)
16 h (69-345)
Urine levels: 55-248.

I don't understand him at all. 🤷

I don't know why, but I'm assuming you're at Rebora. If that's the case, when your sister Nicholas is writing those internal referrals, make sure she adds the bilirubin and glucose levels to the notes.
If you aren't on Reddit, show both sets of results.

feraljackal2 said:Thanks! My GP basically told me everything looks fine and said she should just check back in six months.

Do you guys actually agree with this approach, or would it be smarter to run some more thorough tests—like getting an HHS panel and everything else?

The HHS would definitely be taken into consideration here, especially if there’s an abnormal physical exam of the thyroid or a potential family history involved—you know, things like TM or MEN syndromes and such.
And honestly, we can finally start giving him some real thought now that six months have passed and we have these fresh TSH and fT4 results in hand.

Dear Dr. Harvey, I am currently eleven weeks pregnant, and after receiving my recent lab results, I noticed diagnoses of eosinophilia and basophilia. I find myself wondering what these findings might actually signify. Below, I have listed the specific values that fell outside the normal range.
EOS-.807 9,08%
BASO- .097 1,09%
HCT .373 L/L
MCH 31.8 pg
RDW 11.1 %CV

Thank you very much!

Dear Dr. Harvey,
I am currently 26 weeks pregnant. I recently had some urine tests done because there was a suspicion of bacteria, which might be linked to some bleeding I experienced.

The results are as follows:

Red blood cells: 0-2 Ref. range (x400)
Leukocytes: 0-2
Pl. epithelial: 0-1
Small epit. cells: 0-1
Mucus: 0
Salts: 0
Bacteria: 0
Crystals: 0
Fungi: 0
Hyaline casts: 0-1 Ref. range (x100)
Non-hyaline casts: 0

Note: the specimen is covered with leukocytes and epithelium, with red blood cells and bacteria visible between them.

I subsequently had a urine culture performed, and the result came back as: Physiological urethral flora.

Does this mean the results are normal?

My latest lab results show I’m low on iron at 12, while my Vitamin B6 is elevated. B12 levels look fine.
My doctor didn't prescribe anything; she says there's no need since my hemoglobin is normal and the high B6 isn't toxic.
But now I’ve been reading stuff online claiming that high vitamin levels—especially B6—can be just as risky as a deficiency, and honestly, I'm feeling pretty unsure about it.
It seems like almost everything high in iron also carries Vitamin B6.
If anyone has some expert insight, could an increase in B6 actually be causing anemia in a case like mine?

I need some help here. I’m a 29-year-old woman, 167 cm, 80 kg. Dealing with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's. Today my thyroid labs came back looking perfect—TSH at 1.3, FT4 at 15, and my antibodies are actually trending down. The issue is that my cortisol and ACTH levels are elevated, sitting right at the upper limit. I’ve been dealing with symptoms: constant sweating, muscle wasting—it feels like my muscles are just vanishing—heart palpitations, acne, and panic attacks. About eight months ago, an MRI of my pituitary gland showed a suspicious microadenoma. Up until then, my hormones were completely normal.

Now I’m spiraling a bit over this high ACTH and cortisol. Is it possible that the microadenoma has become active and started messing with those hormone levels?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Hello there,

Could someone help me make sense of these lab results?

Good morning.29 years old, 5'3", 132 lbs.
The reason why all these tests were ordered.Just checking my blood work during pregnancy. I've been feeling totally wiped out—constant fatigue, exhaustion, getting winded easily, and frequent dizzy spells. My blood pressure has stayed pretty low, hovering between 90/60 and 100/60 since the start, but my blood tests have all come back normal so far. The last one was done on July 5th.
The rest.I'm 31 weeks and 6 days pregnant, taking two Solgar Prenatal Nutrients multivitamins every single day.

Here are my full lab results along with the reference ranges (in parentheses):

White blood cell count is at 10.7. (3.4 to 9.7)
Neutrophil granulocytes at 72.7. (44 to 72)
Lymphocytes at 17.9. (20 to 46)
Monocytes at 6.9 (normal range is 2 to 12).
Eosinophil granulocytes at 2.2 (up to 7).
Basophils at 0.3 (normal up to 1).
Neutrophil granulocytes at 7.7. (2.06 to 6.49)
Lymphocytes at 1.9 (normal range is 1.19 to 3.35).
Monocytes at 0.7 (range 0.12 to 0.84). Everything looks normal on this end.
Eosinophil granulocytes at 0.2 (normal range up to 0.43).
Basophils at 0.0 (range up to 0.1).
Red blood cell count is at 3.30. (3.86 to 5.08)
My hemoglobin is at 111. (119 to 157)
Hematocrit 0.319. (0.356 to 0.47)
MCV 96.7 (Normal range: 83 to 97.2).
MCH is 33.7 (normal range 27.4 to 33.9).
MCHC 348. Just another number on the page. (320 to 345)
RDW 12.7 (normal range is 9 to 15).
Platelets at 278 (range 158 to 424).
MPV 8.0 (normal range 6.8 to 10.4). Looks like I'm right in the middle of the pack.

Glucose at 4.6 (normal range is 4.2 to 6.0).
Iron at 16 (range 8 to 30).
My hs-CRP came back at 0.61 (normal range is 0.1 to 5). Pretty much right where you'd want it to be.

The levels are outside the normal range.
The urine test came back clean—everything's within the normal range. I'm still waiting on the results from the culture, though.

I'm a bit worried about some of my lab results being off, so I was hoping someone could help me make sense of them and what they might actually mean.

Thanks!

Greetings,
My son is 14 years old, and he’s certainly had his fair share of medical hurdles—chickenpox, scarlet fever, mono, pneumonia... he even spent some time in the hospital due to these bizarre fevers, headaches, and
dizziness about two years ago. To top it all off, he dealt with shingles, and then, as if that wasn't enough, last year he was diagnosed with Steven Johansov syndrome, which the doctors believe was triggered by the shingles. (Thankfully, he's doing fine now; all that's left are just some lingering spots on his skin where the rashes used to be.)
Over the last two years, *Mycoplasma pneumoniae* keeps popping up in his lab results. Following the Steven J. diagnosis, his *Myco*. test shows:
IgM...negative
IgM.... 17 U positive / Ref 0-11.5 U
Could someone please make sense of this for me?
Additionally, the shingles test result says "equivocal"—does anyone know what that actually means in plain English?
Thanks!

Hey there. I just got my lab results back and I’m hoping someone with actual expertise can help me out, because my doctor wouldn't explain a single thing to me...
I'm 24 years old and don't have any medical issues other than being overweight.
My results show an elevated MCHC at 349, high Red blood cell count at 5.48, low MCV at 79.0, high white blood cell count at 11.7, high MPV at 10.9, and low iron at 7.0. On top of that, my uric acid is up at 416 and my urea is down at 2.7.
Looking at this, it feels pretty scary since so many things are outside the normal range. Some values are only slightly off, but still.
If anyone could make sense of this for me, I would be incredibly grateful. Thanks so much.

Any doctors in here who can weigh in on this...
So, about two months ago, I started getting these nagging pains in my lower right abdomen.
For the last week, though, it’s been constant. Not like "emergency room" levels of pain, but it just won't quit. It's steady.
I actually ended up at the ER because I was worried it might be appendicitis...
They ran blood work, a urinalysis, an X-ray of my abdomen and urinary tract, plus a kidney ultrasound, and everything came back fine.
My temp was slightly elevated—hit 99.3°F, now it's sitting at 99.0°F.
Besides the abdominal pain, I'm dealing with frequent trips to the bathroom and this annoying cycle of constipation and diarrhea.
The doctor at the ER basically told me to just head home, eat light, and stay hydrated...😂
Do you think I should push for more tests? Like, what else could be causing this kind of pain?
Abdomen is soft and elastic at the level of the sternum; tender upon deep palpation at the junction of the lower abdomen and the suprapubic bone. No guarding or peritoneal irritation, LS negative, bowel sounds present.
Temp 99.3°F
Temp 99.9°F

And what exactly does "elevated" mean in this context?

Hannah Lee47 said:My lab results show I have an iron deficiency of 12, elevated vitamin B6, and normal B12 levels.
The doctor didn't prescribe any treatment, saying it isn't necessary because my hemoglobin is fine and high B6 isn't toxic.
Now I've been reading online that elevated vitamins—especially B6—can be just as dangerous as a deficiency, and I'm really confused.
Since almost all foods rich in iron also contain B6, I'm stuck.
If anyone has a professional answer, could an increase in Vitamin B6 actually cause anemia in my specific case?

It would be helpful if you could list your current thyroid status, all diagnoses, who referred you for testing, and where the tests were performed.

I am asking for help interpreting some laboratory results.

Age/Stats: 29 years old, 160cm, 60kg
Reason for testing: routine blood work during pregnancy; however, I’ve been feeling fatigued, exhausted, easily winded, and dealing with frequent dizziness. My blood pressure has stayed between 90/60 and 100/60 since the start of the pregnancy. Blood work has been normal so far, with the last set done on July 5th, 2013.
Other info: Currently 31+6 weeks pregnant; taking 2 tablets of Solgar Prenatal Nutrients daily.

Complete results and reference values (in parentheses) 🙂that deviate from the norm are highlighted.
Urinalysis was normal, with all parameters within range. I was also referred for a urine culture, but I haven't received those results yet.
The deviating parameters have me worried, so I would appreciate it if someone could interpret what they might indicate.
Thank you!

Normal results.

If they haven't been done already, you really need to get a full metabolic panel, a CBC, and a fecal occult blood test.

Yeah, the biopsy was done and everything looks fine so far...
I still have a referral for a stool test, though. I need to get Fe, uibc, tibc, K, Na, CRP, fecal calprotectin, three sets of blood cultures, and anti-tTg.
I asked my primary care doctor and they said I’ll need to bring in three consecutive stool samples. Honestly, I'm wondering how much "material" I actually need to produce, because my bathroom habits aren't exactly regular, so I have no clue how many days this is going to take me just to get those three samples...

I've had my cortisol and ACTH checked three times now, and they were always sitting right in the middle—cortisol at 300 (ref 100 - 536) and ACTH at 5.6 (ref 1.6 - 13.9). Now, my levels have suddenly spiked right up to the upper limit. I'm not sure what to make of it. I'll just redo the tests in a month and see how things look; it'll probably turn out to be a false alarm. As usual.
