Hey there!
I was dealing with some kind of skin rash, so I went in for blood work back on June 13th.
My white blood cell count was up, and even the differential looked a bit off.

A few days later—on the 16th—I had my labs redone, and everything had more or less stabilized.

So, here’s my question... since I had been slamming Vitamin C for those three days (about 2 grams a day), can anyone with actual expertise tell me if that could have influenced the follow-up results? Specifically, is it possible for that much Vitamin C to mask or "camouflage" certain levels, or is it simply not capable of having that kind of impact?
I've attached images of both sets of results here.

Results:

Thanks!

Just got my urine culture results back and it says:

Test: Urine - aerobic bacteriological and mycological

Microbiological findings:

Physiological urethral flora - what's that supposed to mean? 😕

It means the flora inside your urinary tract is totally normal—basically, there's nothing there that shouldn't be.

Did they actually take a urethral swab?

Nope. Just spent all this time waiting on a urine culture thinking it'd actually catch something so I could finally get some antibiotics... then they tell me everything looks fine. 🙄
Dealing with some issues when I pee—not constant, but enough... thought maybe it triggered my joints too, like reactive arthritis. But the urine tests and cultures come back clean.
🤷

My throat started acting up too. Started hurting a few days after that throat swab. It was brutal... barely able to swallow. No cough, no sniffles, just pain.
Had a fever over 100 and the chills right before.
My doctor didn't even care because the throat swab from five days prior supposedly came back clear. 🤷
Now that the throat thing cleared up on its own after about a week, the swelling in my ankles is finally going down day by day.
Is it possible I had strep even if the lab report said Group A beta-hemolytic strep wasn't isolated?
Or maybe when they took the swab it was just starting and they couldn't pick it up yet? The pain kicked in 2 or 3 days later.
And get this—the lab results had my name on them, but the wrong birth year.
They just brushed it off, saying it's definitely mine but those kinds of mistakes happen "all the time."
Honestly makes me wonder if it was even my report to begin with. 🙂

Ran every test under the sun hoping to figure out what's wrong, ended up with zero answers, and now everything is just fading away on its own... 🤷

And you aren't going to get anywhere until they run the tests that actually NEED to be run, not just the ones some doctor thinks are convenient... 🤷

On the other hand, if things are actually improving, there’s really no point in making a massive scene about it; maybe the sore throat is related, but since it cleared up on its own, I doubt it, and honestly, they should have caught strep if that was the issue given how little effort they put in. There’s a whole spectrum of nasty bugs that cause throat pain and can easily cause issues elsewhere besides just EBV...

What can you even do? You’ve just got to sit tight and wait...

Hey everyone. 🙂

Here's one for you. Pregnant. So, I’m currently waiting on my very first child. I'm 40 years old, and I'm about 10 weeks along now. Everything seems to be progressing normally so far, which is a relief. As for any chronic issues—if that even matters in this context—I do deal with mild asthma. Also, just so it's noted, I've been taking Progynon twice a day during this pregnancy.

So, I finally got my lab results back today. I’ve gone ahead and bolded the ones that are outside the normal range, because honestly, those are the ones that have me spiraling—I really need some insight on what these actually mean.

LABORATORY COAGULATION RESULTS:

Prothrombin time ratio—INR—came back at 0.95. The reference range is anything above 0.70, so I guess everything is technically where it needs to be. Just one of those numbers sitting there on the page.
My Prothrombin time and INR came back at 1.0... whereas the reference range is supposed to be between 2.0 and 3.5. Just sitting here staring at the numbers. It’s low. Definitely on the lower end of what they expect to see.
INR—it came back at 1.0. The reference range goes up to 1.12. Still within the lines, I suppose.

BLOOD WORK RESULTS:

White Blood Cell Count is sitting at 7.08. Looking at the lab's reference range, they want it between 3.4 and 9.7. Not quite where I wanted it, but within the lines, I guess. Just one of those things you have to keep an eye on.
My Red Blood Cell count came back at 4.16... which is sitting right there in the middle of that 3.86 to 5.08 reference range. Just a number on a page, I suppose. Still, makes you wonder what else is shifting around in there.
Hemoglobin came back at 124. The reference range is 119 to 157. It’s within the lines, I suppose. Just barely sitting there. Still thinking about those numbers.
Hematocrit: 0.36 (Reference range: 0.356 - 0.470)
CV: 86 (Reference range: 83.0 - 97.2)
Cholesterol levels came back at 29.7. The reference range is listed between 25 and 33.9. So, strictly speaking, I'm right in the middle of the pack. Not exactly breaking any records, but nothing to write home about either. Just another number on the page.
CHC: 346 (Reference range: 320 - 360)
DW 162 (reference range: 158 - 424)
My PV came back at 9.7... the reference range listed was 6.8 to 10.4. Just sitting here staring at the numbers. It's within the lines, I guess, but you know how these things go. One minute everything looks fine on paper, and the next you're wondering if that little fluctuation actually means something more. Still waiting on the rest of it.

Granulocytes: 5.4 (Reference range: 2.06 - 6.49). Looks like everything is sitting right where it should be.
Lymphocytes: 1.3 (Reference range: 1.19 - 3.35)
Monocytes: 0.4 (Reference range: 0.12 - 0.84)
Granulocytes: 76 (Reference range: 32 - 68). High. Again. Just sitting there looking at the numbers and they aren't where they should be. Always one thing or another, isn't it?
Lymphocytes: 18 (Reference range: 20 - 46)

Monocytes: 6 (Reference range: 2 - 12)

BLOOD BIOCHEMISTRY TEST RESULTS:

Glucose: 4.9 (Reference range: 4.4 - 6.4). Everything seems to be right where it should be.
Urea: 3.8 (Reference range: 2.8 - 8.3)
Creatinine: 62 (Reference range: 63 - 107). Just a hair under the mark.
Bilirubin, total: 9.7 (Reference range: 3 - 20)
Potassium levels came back at 3.9. The reference range is listed as 3.9 to 5.1. Right on the edge. Just barely making the cut.
Sodium level came back at 137. The reference range is listed as 137 to 146. It's right on the edge. Just barely holding steady.
Iron levels: 25.9 (Reference range: 8 - 30).
Aspartate aminotransferase: 13 (Reference range: 8 - 30). Just checking in on these numbers... everything seems to be sitting right where it should be. No cause for alarm here.
Alanine aminotransferase: 12 (Reference range: 10 - 36)
Alkaline phosphatase: 60 (reference range: 54 - 119)
Gamma-glutamyltransferase: 9 (Reference range: 9 - 35)
CRP: 3.49 (Reference range: 0.0 - 5.0)

URINE CHEMICAL ANALYSIS:

Appearance: hazy
Color: Yellow
Specific gravity: 1.005 (Reference range: 1.002 - 1.030)
The pH came back at 7.0, which falls right in the middle of that 5.0 to 9.0 reference range. Totally normal.
Urine Leukocyte Esterase: Negative. Everything looks clear there.
Urine Nitrite: Negative. Ref: Negative.
Protein levels: negative. Reference range: negative.
Urine Glucose: Negative. Everything looks normal on that front.
Ketones: negative. Reference range: negative.
Urine Urobilinogen: normal range is 0 - normal.
Bilirubin came back negative. Just like it should be.
The RBC/hemoglobin came back negative. Ref range says negative. So, yeah. Everything looks normal there.

Urine sediment: B.O.

About two weeks ago, I went in to get my thyroid hormone levels checked, and honestly, everything came back perfectly normal. All within the standard range.

If it’s even possible... Can someone please walk me through these values that are falling outside the reference range? I need an explanation. Should I be worried, or am I just spinning my wheels here?

So, my next OBGYN appointment is on the books for next week.

Hi everyone!
I had some blood work done the other day and I'm feeling a little anxious about the results. Any advice would be appreciated...
My WBC is right at the upper limit (9.7)
Red blood cell count is also up (5.08)
As are my hemoglobin and hematocrit levels
Platelets look fine (178)
The white cell differential percentages all seem normal.
But my iron is slightly elevated—even though it was perfectly normal just a month and a half ago (22)
Now it’s sitting at 33!

I've had this nagging cough for about three months now—sometimes it clears up for a few days, but then it comes back—and honestly, that's really my only symptom!
When I did labs a month ago, my RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelets were all normal (4.57)
About two weeks ago, I started taking a prenatal vitamin and some Omega-3s, and then I added royal jelly yesterday... Could any of those supplements be causing this?
I'd love some help here!

If possible, could someone explain the values falling outside the reference range? Should I be concerned?

(my next OB-GYN appointment is scheduled for next week)

Hello,

Your results look normal; there is no cause for concern.

Specifically, an INR range of 2.0-3.5 applies to patients on anticoagulant therapy ("blood thinners"). For anyone not taking such medication, an INR around 1.0 is perfectly standard. Your result is completely fine.

Creatinine levels are typically lower during pregnancy, so you shouldn't worry about that either—the provided interval is meant for non-pregnant women.

As for the granulocytes and lymphocytes: while the percentages deviate slightly, the absolute counts are normal and the CRP is stable, so everything is fine. A slight increase in white blood cells is common during pregnancy due to estrogen influence. In cases of DIC, you might see a rise in neutrophil or granulocyte percentages (as seen in your labs) along with a slight eosinophil increase. However, one must consider clinical symptoms and CRP when looking for infection during pregnancy. If an infection were suspected, we would take a thorough patient history and check the CRP, which has already been done here. Since the CRP is normal and the absolute neutrophil and lymphocyte counts are within range, this is an expected finding.

Be sure to consult with your OB-GYN.

Best regards. 🙂

Hello,

You're taking a supplement that contains iron, so naturally, that's going to impact your iron concentration. To get an accurate reading, you really shouldn't take any iron supplements within ten days of having blood drawn.

Regarding the cough, I mentioned previously that you need a full workup. A chest X-ray and a standard blood count aren't enough to pin down the cause of a cough.

Best regards. 🙂

👋
I finally went in to get some blood work done because I’ve been dealing with a total mess of symptoms. We're talking redness, rashes, itching all over my face and arms, even the soles of my feet, plus frequent bowel movements and a bunch of other annoying stuff.
The one thing that jumped out was my tsh, which came back low at 0.04, though on a follow-up check it was b>.
Because they were short on reagents, they couldn't even run my T3, T4, or antibodies. So now I'm just sitting here waiting to see an endocrinologist—maybe then I'll get some actual answers once I have their blessing.
They did run a CBC, a differential, and a serum biochemistry panel.
Most of it looks totally fine, but a few things are slightly off-kilter 😉 and outside the normal range: MPV is 11.8 (6.8-10.4); Eosinophilic granulocytes are 7.5 (0-7), and Neutrophilic granulocytes are 41.5 (44-72).
Also, my Glucose is 4.0 (4.4-6.4), Urate is 341 (134-337), and ALT is 39 (10-36).

Can anyone make sense of this?

There’s a cortical lesion in the back part of the proximal tibial shaft. It's got this polycyclic shape, stretching about 25 mm from top to bottom, and measures roughly 17 mm on cross-sections. Looks like a non-ossifying fibroma, I guess. There's also a 10 mm bony spike sticking out of the tibia at that level, pointing down toward the deep muscles in the back of the lower leg.

This is the CT scan from a year after my surgery and bone biopsy. That biopsy didn't actually say what kind of tumor it was. Based on this, does it look like things are healing, or am I looking at another bone procedure? Maybe...

Thanks in advance.

I would love some feedback on my test results! Since I haven't been able to get pregnant yet, my doctor sent me to get my reproductive hormones and thyroid levels checked out. Thanks so much!

My free testosterone came back at 6.1 (with a range of 0.2-14.2). I guess that puts me right in the middle!
My testosterone came back at 1.9, which falls right within the normal range of 0.4 to 2.6. I guess that’s good news!
My prolactin came back at 209, which falls right within the normal range of 71 to 566. Everything looks good there!
My DHEA-S came back at 4.5, which falls right within the 0.6-7.2 range. I guess that’s good news! Everything seems to be looking normal here.
My SHBG came back at 61.7, which falls right within the reference range of 18.2 to 135.5. Everything looks totally normal here!
My FAI came back at 3.1, which falls right within the 0.65 to 10.9 range. Everything looks totally normal!

My Anti-TG came back at 467, which is quite a bit higher than the normal range of less than 60. I guess that's definitely something to keep an eye on!
My Anti-TPO levels came back at over 1300, which is quite a jump since the normal range is under 60. I guess that’s definitely something to keep an eye on!
My TSH came back at 5.59, though the normal range is listed as 0.4 to 4. I guess that means it's a little high!
My fT4 came back at 14.4, which falls right within the 11.5–22.7 range! I guess that's good news, maybe? Just happy to see it sitting there in the normal zone!
My fT3 came back at 5.48, which falls right within the 2.8–6.5 range. I guess everything looks normal there!

Jessica Bailey39 said:I’d appreciate some insight on these lab results. Since I haven't been able to conceive, my doctor ordered a full panel covering reproductive hormones and thyroid function. Thanks.

Free testosterone 6.1 (range 0.2-14.2).
Testosterone at 1.9 (range 0.4-2.6).
Prolactin 209 (Range: 71-566)
DHEA-S 4.5 (0.6-7.2)
SHBG 61.7 (Reference range: 18.2–135.5)
FAI 3.1 (0.65-10.9)

Anti-TG 467 (Reference range < 60)
Anti-TPO is over 1300. Reference range is under 60.
TSH 5.59 (Range: 0.4-4.0)
fT4 14.4 (11.5-22.7)
fT3 5.48 (2.8-6.5)

To whom it may concern,

Based on these results, you’re looking at an autoimmune thyroid condition paired with subclinical hypothyroidism—meaning your TSH is elevated, even though your actual thyroid hormone levels are still sitting within the normal range. Both factors, the presence of antibodies and that elevated TSH, can potentially complicate things, affecting both conception and the course of pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester.

Consult an infertility specialist and an endocrinologist. It’s essential. For many dealing with subclinical hypothyroidism, medication isn't strictly necessary unless TSH climbs above 10. However, therapy can be used to lower TSH levels in certain cases—and women struggling with conception might find themselves as candidates for that approach.

You can find more information at the following links: Link No. 1 i Link No. 2.

If there isn't a pregnancy, you should definitely go through with more extensive testing beyond just these results. In your case, there could be other underlying factors at play here.

Greetings. 🙂

I had bloodwork done due to a laundry list of symptoms. Redness, rashes, itching on my face, arms, and soles of my feet, frequent bowel movements—it was quite a collection of issues.
I had it removed. TSH. Which one was low? 0,04...and during the follow-up blood draw. 0,09
They ran out of reagents, so they couldn't process the T3, T4, or the antibodies. I'm waiting on the endocrinologist now; perhaps once I have their blessing, we can move forward.
Completed the CBC, differential, and serum biochemistry.
Most of my results came back perfectly normal, but a few were just a hair off. 😉 Outside the normal range: MPV. je 11,8 (6,8-10,4); Eosinophilic granulocytes. su 7,5 (0-7), a Neutrophil granulocytes. 41,5 (44-72).
Urine Glucose.Well, then. 4,0 (4,4-6,4), Urati 341 (134-337), a ALT 39 (10-36).

Could you explain this?

Dear Madam,

It's quite possible that a low TSH reading—and the hyperthyroidism that follows from it—could be responsible for at least some of the symptoms you're experiencing.

To make sense of eosinophil and neutrophil levels, you really need the total White Blood Cell Count.

A few other parameters are slightly off, though I don't think it's anything major. They'll just need some monitoring.

Best regards. 🙂

Reasons for the blood and urine work,
: First off—things have flared up—specifically my Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (skin condition is acting up again)
: Second—I noticed this strange smell in my urine (really strong, kind of like rotten eggs or ammonia)... I didn't have any other symptoms except for that first day when I felt like I still had to go right after I finished, but everything else has been fine since then

It would be wise to get this done at a hospital facility in the States.
If there's a fever or painful urination involved, you could potentially start an empiric treatment, like Cipro.
Once the basic lab work is finished (creatinine, urea, urate, urine, CRP),
you should follow up with blood pressure and pulse checks, plus a 24-hour microalbuminuria test and a kidney ultrasound.
