For instance, I’m not allowed to promote my own site within my username, yet moderator shadowlynx102 has a direct link to some random blog in his handle?
I honestly don't get why this is being permitted, especially since moderators are supposed to set the standard for the rest of us regular users on this forum. Why is this kind of thing just tolerated? It should be simple: either everyone gets a link in their signature, or absolutely nobody does.

It seems like a huge number of people go around linking to their own blogs, Facebook pages, Tumblr accounts, or whatever else they use to host their thoughts.

So, what kind of content were you actually putting out on your page?

It’s a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to what you can post—some links are totally fine, while others are strictly off-limits. Generally speaking, though, if you're sharing a blog post, you should be good to go.

...maybe they just didn't bother reading the Rules
...?
  • 3. you can't use your signature for advertising, nor can you use it to dump personal info; if you really want a link to your personal blog or some page on Reddit, please format it as "Click here" instead of just dropping a raw http://www.mylink.com* .

The rule is pretty straightforward:

... signatures may not be used for advertising purposes or for displaying personal information; if you want to include a link to a personal blog or a specific site on Reddit or a news aggregator within your signature, please format it as "Click here" rather than http://www.mylink.com

essentially, a signature is

"You can run, but you can not hide!"

So, it's a hidden link to a non-commercial blog (one that doesn't leak private info) hosted on a platform like Blogger. From what I gather, that's perfectly fine. If I've misinterpreted things, I'll happily strip it out.👍

From what I can gather, that should be perfectly fine under the rules. But hey, if it isn't, just let me know and I'll pull it down without any drama at all.👍

It's totally allowed.

And can someone—maybe just Nica—tell me if a moderator is actually allowed to post warnings, even yellow ones, as a PDF on a thread they don't even manage?

For example:

Of course he can't—not that he’d ever be allowed to, considering he’s such a self-important moderator. 😁

Generally speaking, that isn't allowed, but we're talking about signature cards here, and any moderator can issue those regardless of which PDF a user happens to be working on—as far as I'm aware. 😁

Anthony Barrett37 said:Can rustydrifter10 just clarify something for me? Is a moderator actually allowed to issue warnings—even yellow cards—in a sub-thread where they don't even have jurisdiction?

Example here:

Since I’m still relatively new around here, I figured I’d just ask. The answer is that while a moderator technically has the ability to issue warnings, they aren't supposed to be handing out infractions in sub-threads outside their designated area. However, that rule doesn't apply to signature violations. In those cases, anyone who spots a rule-breaking signature can essentially flag it, since the infraction isn't about a specific comment within a thread, but rather the user's profile signature itself.👍

Exactly. It’s a violation of the general rules rather than just some specific etiquette for a single thread on a particular subreddit, so it should be allowed for everyone. At least, that’s how it used to be.

Any moderator can hand out those signature cards, but they don't actually attach them to your posts; instead, you'll find them tucked away right on your profile.

🤣

They’re handing out cards for signatures, yet the mods themselves seem totally unsure about the actual rules—if this weren't so ridiculous, it would be downright tragic

Honestly, it feels like some kind of virus just jumped from the digital world into real life

It’d probably be a good idea to run a quick scan, if nothing else using Microsoft😁

Who exactly is feeling unsure about this?😕

Can you actually point to a single moderator
who is genuinely uncertain about issuing penalties for unauthorized signatures?
I mean, really, in what sense would they be unsure about enforcing the policy regarding signature content? It wouldn't be a struggle for me to pull up the official guidelines
regarding signatures right here, if seeing them might help you reconsider your stance...
From what I can tell by looking at the thread title and everyone's user profiles, it seems like everyone is entitled to include a link in their signature,
so I honestly don't see why there's even a need to start a whole debate like this on Reddit...

So, basically, there's this hidden link tucked away on some non-commercial blog—one of those sites that doesn't even have personal info on it—hosted over on Blogspot. From what I can tell, it’s actually allowed. But hey, if it isn't—no big deal, I can just pull it down..👍

rapidhawk22 said:Usually, that’s a no-go—but since we're talking about signature cards here, any moderator can hand those out. It doesn't really matter which PDF the user is working on, I guess. As far as I know. 😁

Carl Sanchez40 said:Exactly. It’s a violation of the general rules—not just some weird technicality about how a single thread on a specific subreddit is run—so I guess it's fair game for everyone. At least it happened.
Just sitting here waiting to see if rustydrifter10 actually weighs in... 😁

loneraven25 said:Can you even quote a single moderator?
What exactly does he mean when he says he’s "unsure" about handing out a penalty for an unauthorized signature? I guess—maybe—he's just hedging his bets, but it feels a bit vague, doesn't it?
I mean, it’s honestly not that hard for me to list them all out here—if that's what we're doing. Regarding signature rules,
if that’s what it takes to make you second-guess your own argument...
...well, based on the thread title and everyone's profiles, it seems like everyone is allowed to have a link in their signature,
so I don't really get why there's even a need to start a whole new debate about this on Reddit...

none of this really makes me feel like things are secure here,

the real issue with the entire moderation team on this site is,that they refuse to admit when they've messed up a punishment—and trust me, they mess up quite often. I honestly don't understand why it's so hard to just own a mistake; instead, when it's obvious that a warning or a ban was totally unjustified, the whole moderator elite just rallies together to defend their little inner circle.😁

besides, you see how quickly you jumped in the moment someone mentioned the "sacred" red and blue colors.😍

It goes on the profile, loneraven25. You don't just drop a card in a thread, especially not on someone else's PDF. Hopefully, we've all learned our lesson by now. 🙂

Security of what, exactly? He got the penalty he deserved.😕

As for my previous comment, offering my signature to the public—given that I was being called out by name—was simply an act of good faith and a desire for cooperation, not a sign of ignorance.👍

...are you all actually certain you understand the system you're operating within..?
...for instance, dr.mrgood is insisting on this "all or nothing" approach regarding signature rights,
completely ignoring the fact that there are established Rules in place
that everyone—whether they like it or not—is required to follow...
...looking at the original post, I could tell the user simply hasn't figured out how to create a clickable link in their signature...
...which makes the ambiguous explanations from Chandler and Nancy pretty much meaningless in this context...
...and then Anthony Barrett37 comes along asking about a yellow card (without points) for some other user...
...but you seem to be forgetting that there's an exclamation point at the end of every post for reporting issues directly to the mods and admins via email,
and when those kinds of interventions happen, the moderators consult one another and assist each other through the process...
...Noah Perez12—can you please point out exactly where the error lies in issuing a yellow card here..?
...Christian Taylor3, it was stated that the card was applied to the profile along with the proper entry in the user notes,
meaning it wasn't attached to a specific thread, nor was it tucked away in some PDF that I can't access without moderator privileges, and the relevant moderator has already been notified...
...so what is left to dispute here, other than the fact that you aren't grasping such straightforward Rules—rules we all agreed to the moment we registered on Reddit..?

Brian Edwards6 said:Safety from what exactly? He got the ban he earned, period.😕

Regarding the rules,

I’m not trying to play anyone's lawyer here—and I definitely don't want to be the resident Reddit critic—
I just feel like people are getting handed bans for totally trivial stuff while others slide right past for way more serious violations.😁 But look, I really don't want to get dragged into some massive debate because I know the mods will just descend on me from every angle again.
My intention was just to offer some constructive criticism, which—apparently—didn't land very well this time around.😁🙂

Whatever, that's just life, Brian. You've gotta be ready for anything—which is probably why you carry that metaphorical stick around.🙄
