I’ve got a few questions regarding this political thread I started—it's pretty much been the hottest topic on the site for the last few days. Yeah, we’re talking about ACTA.

1. Why is Resonator censoring this thread and nuking posts just because they don't fit his narrative?

2. Why isn't the poll public? It would be nice to actually see where everyone stands. (Look, I know people will jump in saying this is all about democracy, even though if this law actually passes, it’s basically the opposite of democratic.) I'm asking because I genuinely want to see who voted for what. Honestly, I have my doubts that Resonator himself even voted in favor of ACTA, which might be why he's trying to scrub the discussion.

3. I'm calling on all my fellow users to update their avatars to "Stop ACTA," and a huge thanks to everyone who’s already done it.

P.S. I posted this over on PZK because I'd love for Resonator to join the conversation here, so while I'm at it, I'll ask: why can't I send you a private message?

Thanks

...I'm just gonna touch on number 2 for a second. Did you actually make that poll public when you set it up? If you didn't, we can't even see who voted for what.

I didn't even create the poll myself; I just started the thread, then some other Forum user posted the question, and one of the moderators merged the two threads together. Anyway, since you're a mod, do you actually have the ability to switch a poll over to public?

1. I delete messages that don't add anything useful to the conversation—just take a second to read the rules on the Forum 🙂

2. My take is that the Forum doesn't allow turning anonymous polls into public ones, probably because some people might have voted under the assumption that their choice stayed private.
Why are you so obsessed with making this poll public?
Are you absolutely certain you haven't checked to see who actually voted against it?

My PMbox is totally stuffed, and honestly, most of the messages I get are so friendly that it’s actually kind of hard for me to hit delete.
When it comes to discussing moderation criteria, I much prefer having an open, public discussion.

Well, he clearly forgot to check the box to make it public.🤷

It’s not a moderator issue—honestly, does he even have the permissions to edit polls in the first place?🤷

From what I can tell, there's no way to flip a switch and turn a private poll into a public one after the fact.
At least I don't see that option on my sub-forum, even though I can edit polls myself.

Why do you care so much about making this poll public?
Are you sure you wouldn't rather just see who actually voted against it?

My PMbox is totally slammed, and honestly, all my messages are pretty sweet, so deleting them is kind of a drag.
When I'm talking about moderation criteria, I'd much prefer we have an open discussion about it.

1. Since when did you become the judge of what's "quality" content and what isn't? You walking with God or something?
People are dropping links to back up their points and prove this project is straight-up fascist, and then you just go ahead and wipe them out.

2. Alright, fine, it's not your fault.

So, basically, the moderator is a walking God who can't possibly be wrong under any circumstances?

People are posting links specifically to back up their points and prove this project is straight-up fascist, yet you just go ahead and delete them.

Look, being a moderator isn't supposed to be about playing censor or just sitting there waiting for an excuse to scrub anything you don't like under the guise of "spam" or "insults." 😁

To be totally honest, I’m having a hard time figuring out how you arrived at that conclusion based on what I actually wrote.

Let me ask you a rhetorical question: Did you maybe take a quick second to actually read the link I sent over?
And just so we're clear, when I say "rhetorical," I don't actually need an answer—it's more of a gentle nudge in case the answer happens to be "no."

Rhetorical question here: did you maybe take a second to actually click the link and read the text I sent?
Calling it rhetorical just means I don't really care about the answer; it’s more of a gentle nudge in case the answer happens to be "no."

Let’s try this again, round two.

I ask—why are posts being deleted in this thread?
You answer—to maintain quality.
I ask—who are you to decide what "quality" looks like?
You answer—the moderator.
I ask—and does that title automatically make you right?

Which is just like
Henry Hernandez7 said:I'm asking—is being right a prerequisite for everything here?

Come on, please, just tell me what you actually consider to be a high-quality discussion or a meaningful contribution to a thread.

p.s. You've got plenty of time to think about it; I doubt I'll be back to this debate for the rest of the day. I've got a mountain of work to tackle and some errands to run.

Do me a favor and tell me what you actually consider to be a high-quality contribution or a decent discussion on a Forum.

p.s. take your time, I doubt I'll be hanging around this thread much longer today anyway since I've got actual stuff to get done.

To me, a quality post is just a normal response to a straightforward question.
Something like... I ask "why are you deleting posts?", you say "to improve the quality of the discussion," and then I follow up with "well, why should your call be the final word on what constitutes quality for everyone else?" and honestly, I'd expect something like "maybe I misread the situation, my bad, we're all human..." and that would be that. Instead, it feels like you're just dragging this whole thing along to prove you're the moderator and can do whatever you want, which has nothing to do with the fact that you're abusing your position.

No rush on the reply, I'm pretty much glued to this Forum all day anyway.

It’s valid up to a point because his job as a moderator is specifically to clear out posts that don't add anything to the conversation. It’s not just his opinion, either; looking back at some of your old stuff in the Politics section that Sam Green7 (and others) cleared out, I honestly think they should have been deleted too since they weren't adding much value.

If I could give you some friendly advice, try rephrasing that to "I spend a lot of time away from the Forum." Living on a message board 24/7 isn't exactly great for your mental health.

1.I wasn't even talking about my own stuff (even if I have some questionable ones), I was talking about how he nukes everything related to this topic—like whenever someone drops a link to back up a point, he just wipes it. My issue is more about whether it should be up to one guy's subjective take to decide what counts as quality or garbage.

2.I'm mostly on here by accident; I've got the app on my phone, and since my phone is basically glued to my hand, whenever I'm sitting at a Starbucks... I just pull it out and end up browsing the Forum.

So, you're essentially saying it's just your gut feeling that Sam Green73 is censoring people. You're totally entitled to feel that way, but Sam Green73 isn't playing censor—he's just cleaning up stuff that breaks the rules. A lot of folks post links thinking they're speaking for themselves, but that's not how it works here.

Hey, you're entitled to your opinion, but Sam Green73 isn't out here playing censor—he's just cleaning up anything that breaks the rules. A whole bunch of people dropped a link that really should speak for itself.

Sure, you can frame it as just my personal perspective, but you can't really assume every other user who had their posts nuked feels exactly the same way I do. But look, if the vast majority of folks are on one side and the mod is standing all alone on the other, I gotta ask:

Who’s actually being subjective here, and who’s being objective?

Let's be real: everyone is subjective.
Just because you find a few people who agree with you doesn't mean you've stumbled upon some universal truth.
Honestly, you'd be doing me—and the rest of us—a huge favor if you'd take a moment to read through the netiquette#forums guidelines and actually start following them.

When you drop links in a discussion, they really need to have context and a little explanation attached to them.
Don't just expect people to blindly click on everything you post without knowing what they're getting into.

Most things aren't settled just by finding a few people who agree with you.
You'd be doing us all a massive favor if you actually took a second to read the netiquette#forums and started living by it.

Links posted in a thread should actually make sense and include a quick contextual breakdown.
Don't expect everyone else to just blindly click on everything you drop.

I won't keep nitpicking you, though I appreciate you admitting we're all biased—including yourself.

As for the rules, I've read through them plenty of times, and honestly, I try to follow them as much as any sane person can given the constraints. But let's be real, even with strict laws, there's always some wiggle room; even a cop isn't going to pull you over for doing 44 miles mph when the limit is 37 miles mph. You're out here following the handbook like some kind of programmed drone or a puppet dancing on its boss's strings.

Why was my post deleted? I literally just shared a link to a video.
It doesn't break any advertising rules, and there’s no copyright issue here either...
