How can I optimize and speed up Reddit?

I’m not entirely sure if this topic has been brought up yet—or if we’ve already beaten this drum a few times—but I really feel like some action needs to be taken here.
Reddit has been feeling pretty sluggish lately, hasn't it? We've all noticed those endless notifications and ads (total spam) popping up everywhere. Plus, the site keeps freezing up, and whenever you try to search for something, you're stuck staring at a loading screen for thirty seconds—and if you miss that window, you're right back where you started, waiting all over again. It’s a bit of a loop. How do we stop this? How do we actually get the site running smoothly? I've also noticed there are a ton of duplicate threads and just plain nonsensical posts cluttering things up.
My suggestion—and bear with me here—is that they should set up more servers in major US hubs (maybe one in Indianapolis, one in San Diego, and a bunch more in Washington, D.C., to handle the bulk of the traffic). Expanding the server network would create more room for everyone and make searching through the forums way faster. Let me know what you guys think!

I’m totally with you on this. Something seriously needs to change. They should probably just roll out a subscription model or something. If they don't, there’s no way they’re ever going to manage all these servers or handle the sheer scale of everything coming their way 😉

It’s honestly just easier to move over to a forum that someone actually gives a damn about—one that’s technologically ahead of the curve and doesn't constantly try to hammer you over the head with endless advertisements

The look of the site is fine... the actual content is what matters 😉 , but honestly, if everyone actually stepped up or started DEMANDING an upgrade, maybe some donations would help get things moving 🙂

What kind of cosmetics are we even talking about here?
Cosmetics is just a fancy way of describing the vibe of a subreddit, and honestly, it all boils down to the sheer volume and the actual quality of the people hanging out there.
The whole point—the absolute foundation of why any online community exists—is the idea that the site shouldn't just crash constantly or be completely trashed by every idiot who barely finished middle school.

For crying out loud, the site doesn't exist to serve the platform; the platform exists to serve the people using it. What good is having some technically flawless, rock-solid, lightning-fast Ferrari of a forum if there aren't any users around to actually drive it? Or worse, what if you've just got a handful of people hanging out in an empty digital parking lot?

So, what’s your grand plan here??
You just gather a bunch of people out in some random field in Indianapolis and wait for them to sit around crying until someone finally decides how much this platform actually matters to them? Is that the strategy?

Look, I don't get it. If people are constantly whining about the technical glitches or the messy UI on their favorite absolute TRASH forum, then fine—step up to the plate. If you actually care about seeing things improved, stop just venting into the void and actually participate in the process. If that means chipping in some cash to help fund upgrades or support the devs, then do it. Don't just sit there complaining about how broken everything is if you aren't willing to put skin in the game to fix it.

Look, I know how much I claim to know about servers and all that tech junk, but honestly? It’s nothing compared to how much cash I’ve sunk into my music collection. 🙂

You’re barking up the wrong tree here. My original point was directed at the thread starter, who's out here suggesting we just spin up more servers and strategically scatter them across different cities—so obviously, if you're going to pitch a massive infrastructure overhaul, you've gotta address how the hell we're paying for it.

Personally, I don't have an issue with it. Even on Reddit Mobile, there aren't any annoying pop-ups, ads, or whatever those sketchy gambling sites are pushing lately.🙂

Nah, I’m just talking for the sake of discussion here. I know plenty of bigger forums out there that offer "subscriptions" or some kind of ad-free version for maybe a buck or two a month.

Basically, if—and this is a huge "if," because I doubt it'll ever happen—the owner of Reddit decided to implement some kind of symbolic fee, like $5-$3.25, then yeah, I’d be down for it.

I suppose the issue is that most people wouldn't want to authorize some kind of direct debit through their primary bank account, nor would they feel comfortable leaving their private data exposed like that. A small "membership fee" would likely be the easiest way to handle it.

Given the current security issues out there... well, that shouldn't stop anyone who actually wants to sign up from doing exactly that.

By the way, do you happen to have a link or the name of that "American forum"? Because, like I mentioned, as far as I know, none of the other forums do this.

But like we discussed earlier, some issues are just superficial aesthetics, while others carry much more weight (not that they're on the same level as what we called "cosmetic" before, lol).

There’s a point where you can tolerate a lot, but in my opinion, the line was definitely crossed when there are mods who don't take threats of violence or the promotion of illegal behavior—which violates the US Constitution—seriously enough or instead reward them with more than a measly 45 points for supposedly "offending users" (???).

As long as maniacs like that are allowed to post openly telling women they'd, quote: push them down stairs or beat them daily, etc.—and they can write freely here (exactly like someone once wrote to me on a different thread, and the mods in charge of that sub-forum treated it like it was perfectly fine)—maybe it's time for all of us to distance ourselves from this place, take a step back, or at least ask ourselves some hard questions.😉

Just a thought... personally, I have no desire to be associated with a place where someone can say something like that to me and have it pass as if nothing happened. No way.
