So, I’m sitting here staring at this whole mess, just wondering who’s actually pulling the strings and who’s out here feeding us pure fiction. Seriously, who's lying to us? It feels like every time you turn around, there's some new spin on the truth, and frankly, I'm getting pretty tired of the games. It’s like that old saying about how everyone has their own version of reality when they've got something to gain, and honestly, looking at the state of things right now, I’m starting to think we’re all just being played by someone behind the curtain.😁

I was scrolling through the news earlier and stumbled upon this mess regarding that whole investigation involving the biathlon federation—it’s honestly just one more thing to add to the pile of why everything feels so broken lately. Apparently, the authorities have been knocking on doors, trying to pin things on people, and there's all this talk about whether certain officials were actually in the loop or if they were just playing dumb while the money vanished. It reminds me of that old story my uncle used to tell me back when we lived near the Blue Ridge Mountains about those local politicians who swore they never saw the budget discrepancies until the FBI was practically sitting in their living rooms. It’s the same old song and dance, isn't it? You have these big organizations like the USA Biathlon Association acting like they’re above suspicion, and then suddenly, the investigators start digging into the finances, and everyone starts pointing fingers at anyone who isn't currently under the spotlight. They're looking into whether the leadership really knew what was happening behind the scenes or if they were just coasting along while the cracks were forming in the foundation. It makes you wonder how much of this is genuine corruption and how much is just incompetence disguised as "unforeseen circumstances." I've seen this play out in so many different industries—from big tech firms in Silicon Valley to small-town construction companies—where someone always ends up being the fall guy for a systemic failure. At the end of the day, it’s just more noise, more headlines, and more people pretending to be shocked when the truth finally catches up to them. Honestly, I'm just tired of seeing the same patterns repeat themselves over and over again.
....
Look, it wouldn't be right for me to start dropping any official statements right now regarding those comments Jacob Fak made during the press conference. I mean, honestly, what's the point? It feels like we're all just spinning our wheels while everyone waits for a headline that might never actually matter. My gut tells me to stay quiet for a second and let the dust settle before I say something that gets twisted by some news cycle hungry for clicks. It’s just one of those things where if you jump the gun, you end up looking like a fool, and frankly, I've had enough of looking like a fool for one lifetime. I can tell you for a fact that up until this very second, not a single soul from the USA Biathlon Association has even bothered to reach out to us with any actual intention of fixing this mess. It’s just more of the same, really."Look, I was just catching up on what Davor Grgić, the head honcho over at HBS, had to say about the whole situation..."

I was scrolling through some news earlier and stumbled upon this breakdown of four potential scenarios regarding the upcoming election cycle, and honestly, it’s just the usual political circus. You look at these projections and you can almost smell the desperation in the air. It feels like we’re just circling the drain, waiting to see which flavor of chaos the voters decide to swallow this time around. It reminds me of back when I was living in Chicago, watching those local elections play out; everyone promises the moon and delivers nothing but more red tape and higher taxes. You see these pundits acting like they’ve cracked the code, pointing to polling data that probably wouldn't hold up under a magnifying glass, let alone actual scrutiny. They talk about "shifting demographics" and "swing states" like they're playing a game of Risk, but for us regular folks, it’s just more noise while we try to figure out how to pay for groceries. The whole thing is just exhausting. One minute the headlines say we're headed toward total stability, and the next, they're screaming that the social fabric is tearing apart. It's all just part of the grind, isn't it? We sit here, watching the same old players run the same old plays, hoping maybe—just maybe—this time something actually changes. But if history is any indication, we'll probably just end up right back where we started, wondering why we even bothered to tune in.
....
Legally speaking, that option is definitely on the table, and honestly, we haven't shut any doors on Jacob for even a single second. Honestly, we’re still talking to the guys from over in the neighboring states on a daily basis. It feels like we can't get away from them, even now. "Look, we're just out here grinding, trying to figure out the best way forward, and this could be one of our options," said HBS member Hrvoje Grubišić.

Look, let’s be real here—no serious sponsor is going to touch this with a ten-foot pole until they see the final call from Jacob Fak. You can't expect anyone with actual skin in the game to start cutting checks while everything is still up in the air; they aren't going to gamble their budget on uncertainty. It's just how the business works. Everyone is basically holding their breath, waiting to see which way the wind blows with his decision before anyone even thinks about opening their wallet.
If they just threw around some empty promises about cash, then that was only ever meant to be a little incentive to keep things moving here in the States, but since that didn't happen... well, that’s the end of the story. Case closed.
Look, if the money’s already changed hands, then that’s a headache for that clueless sponsor and HBS to deal with on their own time... end of story. Honestly, I'm over it.

Look, Fak could have spent his days training for pennies in some backwater town in the Appalachians—honestly, he probably could've found somewhere else too—back when he was absolutely nobody. But the second he actually starts putting up numbers? Everything shifts. Suddenly, he’s not just some kid with a dream; he becomes a threat.

That’s not how the world works, man. Why would anyone bother helping someone out for peanuts? He would have just been a drain on the resources of the USA Biathlon Association...
Right from the jump, he was tested, showed he had the raw talent, and that's why they opened doors for him to train. But there was a catch—he had to defect. Everyone knew that was the deal from day one...
The defection was the whole reason, period. It wasn't about the money or feeling sorry for some underdog!

"It wouldn't be right for me to make any official statements regarding Jacob Fak's comments at the press conference right now, but I can confirm that up to this point, nobody from the USA Biathlon Association has reached out to us with an intention to resolve this issue", said Davor Grgić, the director of HBS....

http://www.jutarnji.com/four-possible...solution/902688/
....
"Legally, that option exists, and we never once closed our doors to Jacob. We are still in daily contact with the Americans and are trying to find the best way forward—this is just one possibility," said HBS member Hrvoje Grubišić.

I mean, no serious sponsor would ever cough up the cash until Jacob Fak's final decision is actually set in stone.
If they only promised the money based on him staying in America, then that was just a hypothetical scenario that didn't happen...end of story.
If they already handed over the money, well, then that's just an internal mess for that clueless sponsor and HBS to deal with...end of story.

Who knows, really. Most likely, the sponsorship deal was signed—unless someone is lying about it, which is always a possibility—but it probably had a contingency clause stating it only kicks in if Fak competes. Honestly, I don't believe a word of what HBS is saying. There was news on Friday that they offered 60,000 dollars. You don't just pull a number like that out of thin air. So, if you ask me, I think Grgić is lying through his teeth.

At this point, nobody even knows who’s actually making moves and who’s just footing the bill... honestly, the whole thing is just massive hype over nothing. It's all about the money—for us, for the neighbors, and for Fak.

Let's be real here... we don't need him. We don't need to dump useless cash into this sport. America doesn't need representatives in every single discipline when we've got a population of 330 million! Why waste money on biathlon just to support one guy who's basically lost his mind? I might be being harsh, but he's twice as crazy as anyone else, which is why people think he's "good." 🤷 🤷

Anyone who actually watched the races where he grabbed medals knows exactly what I'm talking about... the fog and wind were brutal the whole time, but the second he started moving, the mist cleared and the wind died down—of course, suddenly conditions are perfect. But look at his other races 😕 😕 He wasn't even cracking the top 30...🤷

I mean, what are we even discussing? What happened to skiing? Ever since Janica stopped competing, what kind of results have we seen? Mad respect to Ivica, but once he hangs it up... we might as well scrap the whole department. 😍

Maybe I'm being cold, but what's the point of him?! Why keep throwing money at sports when we should be putting it toward hospitals, infrastructure, and actual necessities? 🤷

Why do we even feel the need to compete in every single sport?😕

And what about all his other races? 😕 😕 He wasn't even cracking the top 30...🤷

I don't think the race at the World Championships was quite like that, and the last Olympic race wasn't either—the one where he finished ninth.

But generally speaking, I agree. I don't really see the point in pretending we’re some kind of biathlon powerhouse; we just don't have the budget for it, and honestly, nobody can ask that of us. As for skiing, the big events in places like Aspen or Breckenridge are a total fiasco because they're just too expensive to host—even if it is nice to watch the skiers out here, we simply don't have the money for it.

You don't just pull a number like that out of thin air. So, if you ask me, Grgić is just spinning yarns until the money hits the bank.

So they didn't want to sponsor HBS, they wanted to sponsor Fak... honestly, they could just go over to Canada and reach out to him there if they're so eager...😁
In this whole mess, Fak is the one bringing the cash into HBS, not the other way around. So demanding compensation feels incredibly small-minded and messy... typical. HBS isn't "losing" anything because they aren't losing money they never even had to begin with. As for those "what if" scenarios? Please. That’s fairy tale stuff, or maybe something you'd hear from people living in some ancient era of serfdom.

The annual budget for the USA Biathlon Association is sitting right around 500,000 bucks, and there's absolutely zero cushion for that kind of reckless, flashy spending where everyone tries to show off for no reason.

Remember that massive hype after the podium finish? Our big hero... training, running through the Appalachian Mountains and Kapela like a chimney sweep, out in the rain, fog, wind, and snow... all by himself... surrounded by wolves and bears... pure sacrifice... grinding hard... one guy against the entire world elite... and then a MEDAL for America!!!!!! Jacob, Fače, you absolute legend... God and Americans...

And now...🙄
He just wants to keep a successful career going.

Remember that absolute high after the qualifying round? Jacob, man, you legend... God and Americans be with you...

But now...🙄
He just wants to keep his career going.

Even Stallone did that 😍

Of course I feel for him—and I mean I feel for him because he’s just a pawn for these idiots constantly bickering while he can't do a damn thing about it... the talent is there, he had a dream, and he lived it, because clearly he isn't living it anymore, which is the worst part.

He should just decide which flag he wants to compete under and call it a day... honestly, he should be the one calling the shots. If he says Canada (for whatever reason), fine... go, thanks for everything, and peace out! But we’re so hypocritical... because now he’s the star and the main attraction, and suddenly everyone’s talking about investing in biathlon... well, why the hell weren't you investing before?? 😕 What do they think, that we're suddenly gonna be a biathlon superpower overnight?! 😕 Like 100,000 bucks is gonna build us a world-class track or something... or more likely, they'll just split it among themselves and forget anyone named Fak ever existed.

That's the real tragedy here... just let a young, talented guy make his own choice and secure his future, dammit!

Let's be perfectly clear here... we don't need him. We certainly don't need to pour useless capital into this sport. There's no requirement for America to have representatives in every single athletic discipline when we only have a population of 330 million. Why waste funds on biathlon just to chase after one athlete who seems to have lost his mind? Actually, what are we even discussing? What happened to skiing? Ever since Janica stopped competing, what kind of results have we seen? Much respect to Ivica, obviously, but once he retires too... we might as well scrap the whole thing :cerek:

Perhaps I'm being overly cynical, but what purpose does he serve? Should we really be throwing more money at sports when we could be funding hospitals, infrastructure, and other essentials? 🤷

Why is there this obsession with being present in every single sport?😕

I don't see why anything should be abolished. Even the Americans haven't scrapped their national teams, despite the fact that throughout their history, they haven't seen nearly the level of success we had with just Janica and Ivica Kostelić. I can empathize with the frustrations of the Americans; it took an American winning medals in another winter sport for them to finally take some initiative here. Fortunately, they found someone capable.
Once Ivica hangs it up, we still need to invest in the skiing team so we aren't left feeling as desperate as those Americans whenever one of our athletes manages to crack the top ten.

That's the worst part of this whole mess... letting a young, promising man decide his own path and secure his future, damn it.

You've got a point. They should have been asking for at least a million bucks, if only so we could actually get something done for biathlon.

Why did he mess with us all this time knowing he was going to bail? What was the point of this whole charade with the sponsors?
The Americans got a medalist, yet they're being asked to cough up 100,000 USD? Is Velepec really the only coach on the planet worth anything? Why did the Americans go out of their way to back Fak into a corner only to play dumb now?

Well, there you have it. It’s because of those exact questions that I don't see things quite the same way you do...

Though, if I'm being honest, I suspect there's plenty of dirty laundry on both sides that neither of us knows about.

He just wants to keep his successful career moving forward.

And why shouldn't he build a successful career?

The kid is where he belongs; he put in the work and delivered dream results... then suddenly, some bureaucrats from an American federation show up wanting a slice of the pie despite never investing a dime... what happened to all those big promises made when he was winning medals? Nothing. It's just like those politicians making grand speeches at rallies only to forget everything by the next morning. Jacob knows he can't succeed without real support. He didn't get that in the States, but he did in Canada... so what now? Some low-lifes at the American association want a cut—basically cash to fund their vacation homes. In the end, it always boils down to "it doesn't work that way." Jacob won't be able to "run" for Canada, and even if he wanted to back in America, nobody would train him anyway (and even if they tried, there aren't any quality coaches left). That's another talent wasted because of the pure ego of people working for their own pockets at the expense of the sport.
I never thought I'd be the one saying this, but John is 100% right.

Obviously, you don't scrap it... I was just being hyperbolic there. But let's be real—we can't expect results like Janica and Ivica gave us (obviously), and that's fine. We don't have to be the best at everything. They seem to think that by keeping Fak around, he’ll bring enough cash with him to spawn a hundred more Faks... yeah, right. It won't happen. 😍😍
And biathlon will be No. 1! Why?!

Why isn't anyone thinking about the rowers? For once, thank God we actually have a tradition of winning medals there, yet look at the conditions they train in and how they live. 😕

swiftwalker43 said:You're right, they should've asked for at least another million bucks so we could actually do something for biathlon too.

Winning two medals and calling it a successful career—give me a break. Someone should tell him to take a look at Pešalov (if you can even call his career successful)😂

You actually have to put in some damn work if you want to claim a successful career.🤷

He probably needs to sweat a little more if he wants to claim he had a truly successful career. 🤷

Sure, why don't you go out there and snag two World Championship medals yourself? See how that goes.

For someone his age, it was an incredible run—even if he never managed to win anything else after that... and that, my dear uneducated friend, is what a successful career looks like.
