George Robinson43 said:I don't think anyone would even give a second thought to Fak if he'd chosen to compete for any country other than Canada. He's just some random guy in a sport that doesn't matter to us.
Given how we feel about our neighbors in Canada, people are just venting about how pathetic Fak is. The best move is to just ignore him, the same way you'd ignore any Canadian.
If his life goal was to be Canadian, then fine, let him enjoy it. It’s a shame he didn't just renounce his American citizenship when he decided it was better to quit than to represent America. Clearly, the guy's a flake, but I guess that's expected when you're Canadian.🙂

Look at him trying to play the victim on Facebook. 😂

Let me set the record straight.
The people from our neighboring states have proven themselves to be wonderful neighbors, true friends, and genuinely great people. ☕

Exactly. Most Americans are just regular, decent folks going about their daily lives. Just like most Americans. Everything else belongs in a political debate, not here in a sports thread.

But that’s not what this thread is about. This is about Jakov Fak deciding to represent the American biathlon team from now on.

quietfox38 said:But that isn't really what this thread is about. The core issue here is the decision made by Jakov Fak regarding his move to represent the Canadian national biathlon team moving forward.

Look, the man already gave you his answer... We are talking about an athlete most people in the States wouldn't even recognize—someone who only caught the public eye because of a single Olympic medal in a sport that remains largely obscure to the general American public—yet he’s managed to stir up this massive circus just because he's choosing to compete for Canada. Why shouldn't he? They are offering him much better terms. If he wants to go, let him go, KBKK 🤷

As if his departure would suddenly transform them into a global biathlon powerhouse overnight. He's just one individual, and it's a niche sport. ☕

It’s a simple truth: 99% of the people on this planet are just everyday folks going about their daily grind.
However, we absolutely cannot overlook the immense amount of respect, genuine friendship, and neighborly spirit those same hardworking individuals across the border have consistently shown their neighbors.
That sense of community is the sole reason a figure as insignificant as Fak is even getting any attention at all. If he had gone to a remote corner of sub-Saharan Africa instead, our media wouldn't have wasted more than a single sentence on him.
Given that he traveled to a region where tactics like blockades and extortionist behavior have been served up to us for years—and where nearly half the population still believes bullying is a valid way to treat a neighbor—it really isn't surprising that there is a segment of people who find Fak utterly repulsive.

That’s the only reason a nobody like Fak even gets a mention. If he’d gone to Burundi instead, our news outlets wouldn't have wasted two sentences on him.
Considering he went to a place where we've been fed nothing but talk of blockades and blackmail for years—and where 48% of people still think bullying neighbors is the way to go—it's no surprise some people can't stand Fak.

George Robinson43, you're sick. Pure paranoia. 🙄

Well, look at this mess.
Are you seriously suggesting that the tension between Americans and our southern neighbors over the last few years is just a product of my imagination?

Kudos 🙏 🙏

Folks, whatever happened, it simply didn't occur. It was nothing more than a shared delusion in our own minds. 🙂

Man, his medal actually snapped—can you believe that? 😁 Just caught the race—he was right up there at the front from the jump and walked away with a medal! Honestly, those guys starting later had it way tougher with the weather... talk about a brutal disadvantage, right?

Missed the biathlon World Cup—anyone catching it? 😉Man, could it have been snowing and blowing like crazy out there?

Taylor Bailey said:I haven't really been following the Biathlon World Cup 😉, but I suppose it’s entirely possible there was some snow falling or maybe a bit of a wind gusting

It’s plausible the conditions weren't exactly uniform for everyone, but honestly, hitting 19 out of 20 targets is just top-tier shooting—and he still managed to beat someone like Bjørndalen, who probably wouldn't have stood a chance if the weather had been even slightly more against him. I mean, Fak trailed him by less than 20 seconds, so if he hadn't missed that last shot, he might have actually pulled off the win

Here’s another "traitor"

I don't really get all this hate and the insults being thrown at Fak. He isn't exactly the first athlete from America to decide to represent a different country. 🤷

Some of you guys seriously have some perception issues.

Nobody is going to hold Jukicki against her. It's not like she ever "put on the American jersey" just to rip it off later and claim it was the happiest day of her life—happier than the day she won an Olympic medal, no less.

As for everyone else who chose to compete for another nation? That was their call. We might be annoyed, but we move on.

The problem is that Fak lied to the whole country. He played the part of the man rethinking everything, retreating to some quiet temple in Kyoto to contemplate his future, acting like it was such a heavy burden. He'd love to play for America, but oh, the coach, the friends, the difficult decision... blah, blah, blah. But when the American federation made a legitimate demand for compensation from the Americans, how did he react? Did he say, "Fine, I'll play for America after all, it's my home, just work it out," or did he tell the Americans that seeking compensation is perfectly reasonable? No. Instead, he acted like a total coward, whining about how they won't let him ski for the US.

So there you have it. He got his release papers from the US, and now he's happy. As if America is going to shed any tears over a guy with that kind of character. Honestly, his behavior is just pathetic.

Jerry Roberts, man, get real—you’re just ignoring the facts here. The truth is, Fak lost the support he needed to stay at the top tier of this sport, plain and simple. Personally, I wasn't a fan of how he handled himself—the way he communicated, or rather, how he played both sides by telling two different stories to everyone involved. It was messy. Honestly, I spent a while trying to figure out what his end goal even was, but eventually, I just landed on the conclusion that maybe he's just not that bright. A buddy of mine actually put it pretty well—he said if he wins gold and has to stand there listening to the Canadian national anthem play, that’ll be a real slap in the face. Still, I can't really blame him for his individual ambition. It's not like America provides the kind of setup he needs right now; instead, someone else came along and offered him the chance, the very thing that helped turn him into an elite athlete in the first place. Choosing that path is just common sense. He chose his own career goals over some vague sense of American pride... or whatever you want to call it. You can judge him for putting his own interests above the flag, but maybe ask yourselves if you're really as patriotic as you claim to be. Would you actually turn down a massive opportunity just to stay "loyal"? Most of us would grab that lifeline in a heartbeat, no matter where it came from, just to get ahead. Or we’d move to a place like Canada just to make sure our future is secure for the next five years. And then, once we're settled, we'd probably still be shouting about how much we love America while paying all our taxes in Canada. I have zero respect for that kind of "patriotism"—usually, the people yelling the loudest are the ones I trust the least.

So how did he end up walking away with two medals then?

The reason he lost those training privileges was because some bureaucrats decided to pull the plug on his coaching services—services that were almost certainly taxpayer-funded. This wasn't us shutting him out; it was their own extortion tactics at play...

The fact that he lost out on those conditions—well, that’s just small-time politics from people who decided to pull their training services (which I'm pretty sure were paid for, by the way). It wasn't us squeezing him... it was their own blackmail.

And honestly, would you really be happy if an American coach was training a Canadian athlete who ends up winning medals for Canada instead?

I mean, they aren't stupid. Of course they played hardball. I don't see why they'd bother helping him from the jump if there wasn't something in it for them.

They aren't idiots—of course they charged him. I don't see why they’d offer help from the jump without looking out for their own bottom line.

What does that even have to do with anything? If you're paying for their services, what exactly is there to "extort"? If they provide coaching to foreign biathletes for a fee, then all this talk about undermining interests just doesn't fly. It's like if Russia started crying one day because someone attacked them with fighter jets they sold them decades ago. The Canadians are just getting defensive because we started beating them at "their" sports. Just think about what Janica brought to the table—and not just for them. She came from some tiny little country with nothing much to offer and basically spat in the face of everyone and their sport with those incredible results of hers.

She came from some place that barely has a decent hill to speak of and basically showed everyone how it's done through her incredible results.

It actually has everything to do with it, if you use any sense at all. And I really don't get why you're bringing up Janica—those guys didn't teach her a single thing about skiing. It’s just mindless commentary that gets under my skin. Besides, our guys were paying the locals for help, if they were even paying at all—nobody's ever going to tell us the real numbers. But you have to realize, it isn't even about the money anymore. Why would they bother training an American medalist when they haven't exactly been eating well off of us?

Jerry Roberts said:Some of you people seriously need to get your heads checked... your perception is just completely warped. Seriously.

I mean, honestly, nobody’s gonna hold it against Jukicki... seriously. It’s not like the girl ever actually put on an American jersey just to rip it off and claim that taking it off was the greatest moment of her life—like, way better than the day she snagged an Olympic medal or whatever... so yeah... no one's mad...

And honestly, all those other guys who decided to go represent some other country? Look, it was their call, their choice... we can be bummed out about it, sure, but what are we gonna do? Just move on already... let's just get back to business...

That absolute piece of work, Fak, has been lying to the entire nation this whole time. It’s like he’s constantly second-guessing himself, overthinking everything, then retreating into some quiet temple in Kyoto just to "contemplate his future." Give me a break. He acts like it’s such a heavy burden, like he’d die for America, but oh, wait—he’s the coach, he’s got friends, it’s a "difficult decision," blah blah blah... total nonsense. And then, when things actually get real—when the American federation makes a totally reasonable demand for compensation from the Americans—how does he react? Does he step up and say, "Look, I’ll stand with my home country, just get it sorted," or does he actually acknowledge that people have a right to protect their interests? No. Instead, he turns into a complete coward, hanging by his fingernails and whining about how they won't let him coach for the Americans anymore... what a joke.

There he goes, running back to Canada... finally got his exit papers and now he’s all smiles, acting like the rest of America is actually going to miss a complete coward like him. Honestly? The guy makes me sick... such a pathetic excuse for a man...

It’s honestly the absolute worst when you’ve got these moronic Americans trying to lecture you... acting like you’re doing something wrong just because you actually stand up for our own national interests like everyone else in the civilized world... seriously... it's such a joke...

It’s like these absolute psychos... they just pick and choose, you know? One minute they're acting all high and mighty, trying to follow whatever fancy standards the rest of the world expects from us, and the next... boom. They go right back to being those backwards, small-town hillbillies... honestly, it's pathetic...

Now all of a sudden, since most of us have finally started acting like everyone else in the rest of the Western world, we’re suddenly back to being nothing but primitive lowlifes... typical...🤣..

Honestly, I couldn't care less about Jukicka... She’s just the same as Fak to me. Actually, what really gets under my skin is that her old man was a veteran... just makes it even worse...

Look, if you managed to land a steady gig up north in somewhere like Seattle or Portland—because let’s be real, coaching gigs around here pay absolute peanuts—you could've totally screwed over those folks in Europe. You could've just told the kid she was playing for us instead... honestly... what a missed opportunity...

And here they go again, acting like they’re somehow more holy than the Vatican or the Pope... which, let's be honest, is a total oxymoron if you think about it. Just pure nonsense. We weren't about to screw over the very country that kept us fed and alive... period.🙄

Man, we’ve been getting screwed over for centuries straight up... just constant bullshit from start to finish... and honestly? It doesn't even matter anymore... everything feels rigged...

This whole country and everyone living in it... man, we are absolute bottom-of-the-barrel trash with these opinions being posted here... honestly? We just need someone to come along and kick our collective asses once and for all... let's just call it a day and be done with it... because let's face it, we're nothing but a bunch of total losers...

Paul Jones7 said:I mean, would you actually be happy if an American coach was training some Canadian athlete who keeps bringing home medals for Canada?

They aren't idiots, obviously they're getting paid. I don't see why they'd help him out for nothing in the first place without some kind of payoff involved...

Oh, come on... you seriously think they wouldn't mind coaching him if he hadn't won any medals and was just some total nobody??!..

You already know the answer... It's way too easy to just spin it and make everything sound trivial...

Look, I'll say it again—I want this guy to win ten times more medals than he already has...

But there is a specific reason why so many people are pissed about how this decision went down...
It's not like we're all brainless, narrow-minded, lazy when it comes to looking up the real facts, or just attacking things because we're a bunch of hateful, jealous losers...

I dunno, man...🤷
