I checked the bed, the mattress, the rug—nothing. No sign of any bugs. Besides, the bites don't even look like bedbug bites, and they didn't even itch. It only happened one night, then nothing. Bedbugs wouldn't just disappear that easily, right? 😁

I know someone who dealt with a very similar situation. After doing a ton of digging, it turned out there were these tiny little critters—almost like microscopic mites—living in the sawdust from some old lumber stored in their backyard shed. They’re basically invisible to the naked eye, but they can trigger an allergic reaction that feels just like a series of stings. In their case, the reaction would kick in anywhere from thirty minutes to a couple of hours after exposure. It’s entirely possible you were exposed to whatever allergen it was sometime before last night... Apparently, this stuff can even show up in old grain or damp basements, though it doesn't necessarily cause itching. At this point, the only real way to handle it is to take an antihistamine to dull the reaction, apply some liquid makeup containing a local anesthetic, and just wait for it to pass.

Hey everyone, I’m losing my mind here.

For the past few weeks—especially over the last two days—I've been getting these sudden, intense itching sensations, mostly on my leg. Sometimes it's an arm, doesn't matter. When I check, there's absolutely nothing there. No redness, no swelling, nothing. After a few seconds, I'll spot this tiny red dot, maybe a millimeter wide, looking like someone just poked me with a technical pen. It looks like a little blood spot, as if I was pricked by a needle. Now, I can't tell if the skin is actually broken or if it's something subcutaneous because it's too small to really judge. There’s no surrounding inflammation, just that one dot. Then it itches for a bit and vanishes.
And this is happening more and more frequently lately. I started thinking maybe some demons are living in my bed. It's weird because I'm in a new apartment with new furniture—everything is brand new and freshly laundered (unless some monsters moved in during these last three months...). But then again, it doesn't seem tied to the apartment at all; most often it happens while I'm just walking down the street. I'll feel this sting behind my knee, and I start spiraling, thinking there's something crawling inside my clothes. I've washed all my pants, inspected them thoroughly, and found nothing. I'm going crazy because it's obvious something is biting me, yet I can't see a thing!! 😠 Is it possible I have uninvited roommates? Or could it be something like capillaries bursting? Does that cause a stinging sensation and itch right before it pops?
Any ideas are welcome—I'm about to go nuts. 😕

It’s entirely possible we might be looking at a bed bug situation here.
Bed bugs... maybe. 🤷

It’s really nothing to worry about, honestly.
Besides—and I could very well be wrong here—it doesn't necessarily mean my theory holds water. 🙂

Wash all the bedding, swap out the mattress and pillows, and give the whole bed a thorough spray with Lysol.

Hey everyone... I spent the entire day turning my bedroom upside down looking for them, but no luck. Honestly, I don't get it. And meanwhile—clearly while I was asleep last night—they managed to leave another 2 or 3 spots. I’m actually going to lose my mind.
Thanks for all the advice...

These little pests love to hide in cracks, under floorboards, inside couches, or deep within mattresses. You really need to hit them with some heavy-duty insecticide. Honestly, just call a professional exterminator service and see what they can pull off for you.

Got some bug bites this morning. They felt almost like fly bites, but now I’ve got these tiny little sores right where they hit—kind of looks like the spot you get after pulling a tick out—and there's some redness spreading around the area. Is this something I should be worried about? Should I go see a doctor or just wait it out? Thanks. 🙂

Hey everyone! So, I got bit by something yesterday—no clue what. Anyway, my arm is all swollen right where this red dot is, and man, it hurts like hell... feels like someone’s stabbing my actual bone. What do you think? :S I thought maybe it was just a bee at first, but now I’m definitely not so sure.

I noticed this thread has gone a bit quiet, but I figured I’d give it another shot.
So, about three days ago, I got bitten by something. It felt a lot like a mosquito bite, but I really don't think it was them—I mean, where would mosquitoes even be during the winter? Plus, I checked my room thoroughly and didn't see a single one. At first, I noticed a spot on my hip, then my ankle, my stomach, near my breasts, and even some bites under my arms... plus a few clustered together in one spot.
It is just so incredibly itchy.
I actually just brought home a new kitten a few days ago, so my mind immediately jumped to fleas—but it's strange because I've had cats my whole life and I've never been bitten like this before.

The bites are roughly half a centimeter wide and itch just like a mosquito bite would. Honestly, I'm at a total loss here. I've already checked the bed, swapped out all the linens for fresh sheets, and even vacuumed the floor and the mattress itself, yet I woke up again this morning with brand new bites.🤷
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be??🙄

Well, considering there are thousands of different flea species out there, it’s honestly not that surprising... Detailed instructions on how to handle this can be found right here:

Good luck 🙂

So, three days ago, I got bit by something. It felt like a mosquito bite, but I’m not buying that. Where would the mosquitoes even be right now in the middle of winter? Besides, I checked my room top to bottom—not a single bug in sight. First, it popped up on my thigh, then my ankle, my stomach, around my chest, and even my arms under the armpits. To top it off, there are a couple of bites clustered together in one spot.
It itches. It just itches.

It’s possible they’re fleas. Has your cat had any treatment lately? If not, you can easily grab some topical ampoules at a PetSmart—the budget ones go for maybe $3 or $4, and I use them on my pets all the time; they work just fine. Just apply it to the back of her neck. It handles everything from internal parasites to external pests like fleas. If there are fleas around, they'll be dead within a few days of application, and you'll be set for a couple of months since that's how long the dose lasts.
My cats stay indoors, so I just hit them with treatments twice a year. For outdoor cats, you've gotta be more on top of it—maybe every two or three months.

I can't believe I'm actually typing this out, but honestly, life's been such a weird, slow-motion train wreck lately that I feel like I need to vent just to make sure I'm still awake. It’s one of those stretches where everything feels slightly off-kilter, you know? Like you're walking through a dream where the physics are just a little too heavy. I was sitting at this little coffee shop over in Seattle the other day—just one of those quiet, dimly lit spots where you can hide behind a laptop and pretend to be productive—and I started thinking about how much has shifted since last year. Everything moves so fast, yet somehow, it feels like we're all just treading water. I caught myself staring out the window at the rain for twenty minutes, wondering if anyone else felt that same weird, hollow sense of "is this it?" while everyone around them was frantically checking their phones or rushing to some meeting they probably didn't want to go to anyway. Anyway, I've been seeing some chatter online, and it's kind of making me wonder if I'm just being overly cynical or if there's actually something going on with the way we're all processing things right now. Velvetmoose9 was mentioning something similar the other day, and I think Melloworca6 might have had a point about the whole social burnout thing, too. It’s like we’re all collectively exhausted, but nobody wants to be the first one to admit it because we're too busy trying to look like we've got it all figured out. It's fine, though. Really. I'm just rambling. Just one of those moods where the thoughts flow a bit too easily and I end up writing a novel when I should probably be doing my laundry or something equally soul-crushing. Just wanted to put that out there. kaže:
I noticed this thread's been gathering a bit of dust lately, but I figured I’d throw my hat in the ring anyway and see if anyone's still around.
So, about three days ago, I got bit by something. It felt pretty much like a mosquito bite, but I’m not exactly buying that theory—I mean, where would mosquitoes even be hanging out in the middle of winter? I did a full sweep of my room and didn't see a single bug anywhere. It started with one spot on my hip, then popped up on my ankle, my stomach, around my chest, and even some on my arms under my armpits. To top it off, there are a couple of bites clustered together in one specific spot.
Man, I’ve got this itch I just can't scratch.
So, I just brought home a new cat a few days ago, and I’m starting to get a nagging suspicion that there might be fleas in the mix. It’s honestly tripping me out because I’ve had cats my entire life and I’ve never once been bitten by a flea myself—it’s like they usually just ignore me entirely.

So, I woke up this morning with these bites that are like half a centimeter wide, and honestly, the itching is exactly like when a mosquito gets you. It’s driving me nuts, and I am completely stumped as to what’s actually going on. I’ve already done the whole deep-clean routine—I checked under the bed, stripped everything, put on fresh linens, even vacuumed the floor and the mattress itself—but I still woke up with brand-new welts today. It feels like I'm losing my mind a little bit. 🤷
Anyone got any bright ideas?🙄

It’s been pretty warm out these last few weeks, which has basically given the flea population a free pass to go wild. I’ve been seeing more and more people reaching out about their pets coming home with these clusters of bites all over their bodies—it’s almost always classic flea territory. It could be that, obviously, but you also have to consider other stuff creeping in now that it's heating up; certain spiders can get aggressive, and while bedbugs aren't exactly a common thing around here, they definitely pop up when you least expect them. Honestly, if you've got pets, you really ought to be looking into professional pest control or at least making sure they're on a solid preventative treatment if they aren't already, just to stay ahead of the curve. You definitely need to make sure there's enough room to breathe. Once they start running away with those cats, they’re just gonna head straight for the nearest warm-blooded idiot. 😍 ).

So we're talking two or three days and maybe twenty or thirty stings. 😁

I survived. 🙂

I almost totally blew it. I actually let the little guy sleep in with me that night after giving him a tiny dose of something. He was tossing and turning under the covers, and I felt bad, so I just let him stay. 😬 By morning, things got interesting when I realized exactly what my legs were going through. 🤣

Auklinac, seriously, wouldn't a local CVS pharmacist have cleared that up for you? 🙂
I mean, I can only imagine the itching was absolutely driving you crazy 🙄
For any of the ekipa out there who can't exactly lug their pet out for a vet visit whenever they feel like it, it might actually be worth tossing some repellent and maybe an antihistamine into the mix a day or two before the injection—and even a few days after—just to play it safe.

I didn't bother with the local pharmacy; I just grabbed what I needed at a Petco. If they're slammed, they won't go out of their way to warn you unless you actually ask. It wasn't my first rodeo dealing with bugs either, but apparently, there was some kind of infestation this time, and I messed up by being too nice to the staff. 😬

Oh man, the itching was hell. My thighs were absolutely shredded from scratching; I lost count of how many bites I had. 🤣 As long as you don't scratch the open wounds and apply something—I used some Benadryl cream, which did the trick 😁—it’s manageable.

Bottom line: if you have chickens and you're using those medicated vials, don't let them sleep in your bed for a night or two. Once the bugs can't bite the birds anymore, they move on to humans and then die off. Until then, you'll be itching your skin off if you aren't careful. 😬

I didn't sleep in my own room last night, and I woke up this morning with even more bites—it's honestly starting to feel like a mosquito attack. Usually, when you get bitten by a flea, you feel that immediate sting, it itches for a few hours, and then it's over... but these marks have been hanging around for three or four days now. My cat wasn't even in the room where I slept, though I suppose it's possible we could have brought some fleas in on our clothes. Still, I can't help but suspect mosquitoes—I always seem to be the primary target during the summer, while nobody else in the house gets touched at all. It’s just me getting eaten alive, while my mom doesn't have a single bite on her.
Is it possible that the mosquitoes have finally come out of hiding now that it's gotten so warm? 😕😕😕
