There isn't even an option to delete my profile here.

In that case, I’d appreciate it if you could update my username.

Why not just start a fresh profile with the name you actually want? If you aren't using this one, there's no reason to stick with it... 🤷

Because I want my email address to actually match the username I've chosen. Right now, if I try to set up a new profile, I'm forced to use an entirely different email address.

Try swapping the email on this current profile to one you don't care about first.

Otherwise, you can request a username change on this Reddit thread. Make sure you read the opening post carefully...

(Though they'll probably give you the same advice I am—just start a fresh account since you barely have any posts yet...)

Since you haven't really posted anything on Reddit yet, I can actually go ahead and change this username for you manually. Just shoot me a DM with all the details so we can figure out exactly what's bothering you and get it sorted out the way you want.

What a total joke! I’ve combed through every single setting, clicked every damn button, and I still can't find where to delete my account. Seriously, they made this Reddit experience just thrilling, didn't they?

I can totally see why they wouldn't just wipe an entire profile on request... it makes sense from a technical standpoint. But you know, on some other Reddit communities, you can actually delete your account while still leaving your old posts intact within the threads. In those cases, the author isn't Pero Perić anymore, they just show up as something like Guest 23456. Personally, I think that kind of middle ground is a perfectly fine way to handle things if someone really wants to step away and erase their identity... 🤷

Why bother deleting your whole profile just for the sake of it? I mean, your posts stay up anyway, and there’s zero personal info floating around that would let anyone link you back to specific people, events, or even just your random opinions.

Otherwise, if you just want to switch up your handle, here’s a little hack—just swap out the email on the old account with some burner one (you know, something less important), then go ahead and start a fresh account using your main email.

And look, if you're trying to kill off an account because you're tired of the notifications hitting your inbox, just change the email address on the old account first! That way, if anything *does* slip through, it won't clutter up your actual primary inbox.

Honestly, it’s always a smart move to have one or two "junk" emails specifically for spam or promos. There are tons of sites where you don't really care about being part of the community, but they won't let you browse without an account—so why give them your real address?

Casey Flores said:I can definitely see where they're coming from regarding why they don't just wipe profiles on demand. But if you look at other sites like Reddit, you'll see they have this middle ground where you can delete your account, yet your old posts stay right there in the threads. Instead of seeing a specific name, it just shows up as "Guest 23456" or something similar. To me, that seems like a perfectly reasonable compromise if someone genuinely wants to scrub their identity while leaving the conversation intact...🤷

They’ve actually done it here before; you can easily track it down if you bother to dig through some of the older threads.

I think that kind of middle-ground solution is actually pretty fair if someone really wants their profile gone. 🤷

It's not exactly rocket science, so here's the deal.
Websites need as many registered users as possible to sweeten the deal for advertisers—basically, more accounts mean they can charge way more for ad space.
More registered profiles = bigger payouts from advertisers and ads. It's just math!

Deleting profiles shrinks the total number of "users" on the site, so... yeah, the logic is pretty obvious.

It wasn't a targeted deletion; they had massive technical glitches a while back that ended up wiping out a huge chunk of user profiles by mistake.

I'm honestly not sure if they've done this before... If my memory serves me right, I think I read somewhere that Reddit—or maybe the server itself—just swallowed up a few profiles on its own. But honestly, it doesn't really matter... even if they have been deleting stuff in the past, they clearly went ahead and changed the rules.

Gregory Ramirez2 said:It’s really not exactly a state secret, if you want the truth.

More registered profiles equals more revenue from ads.

When they delete accounts, they're effectively shrinking their "user base," so the logic is pretty straightforward.

That's actually incorrect.

Advertisers care about unique visitors and click rates; the number of registered profiles matters way less, especially when you realize there are way more guests browsing than people actually logged in.

Matthew Anderson said:That info is totally off.

You gotta look at unique visits and clicks—the profile count doesn't mean much, especially when you realize the number of guests is way higher than the actual logged-in users.

Not "off," if you're being honest with yourself—just incomplete. 😉

You need to look at both, plus a bunch of other factors you totally missed.
I was answering a specific question about why you can't delete profiles (it's just how it works), so I didn't see any point in diving into deep analytics since this isn't a marketing seminar.

But hey, don't worry: I won't report you for being off-topic. 😬

Look, just so we're clear on how this works, profiles don't just get deleted because someone asks nicely.
If you've decided you aren't interested in using your account anymore, then just log out and call it a day, simple as that. 🙂
