mistywolf17 said:The chat could never have been strictly topical to begin with. Just read what I wrote earlier. People had to be allowed to chat about anything, because nobody was interested in coordinating hangouts right away. So, my conclusion is that it simply can't function as a topical chat. It just doesn't work that way.
That being said, of course you all support that idea. I saw how much you wanted it. I’ve been following you lately because there were so many posts in the chat. From what I could see, it seemed like you just wanted to drive certain people away because they don't intend to meet up in real life. Which, honestly, is kind of ridiculous. It happened because, just like in any other chat, not everyone gets along, so people end up kicking each other out. I'm quite familiar with that dynamic.
So, I think I’ve explained the situation more than thoroughly. These chats on the US subforum really don't make sense; as far as I'm concerned, they belong on Offtopic.

I don't quite follow your question. If someone wants to chat, they should just head straight to a dedicated chatting subforum like DiK or Offtopic. They don't necessarily need to come to the US section just to chat.

When I first joined the forum, the chat wasn't even on my radar—like, at all. I wouldn't have even looked for it because I didn't even realize it was an option. That's what I'm talking about.

You're totally undermining your friend who's a mod here... wasn't it a perfectly logical, collective decision made by the US moderators to move us to Off topic? You can't just change your mind now like... "oops, we already agreed on this."👍

Keith Cox6 said:Correction to what micek said—the quality of the US chat has been seriously tanked... by a bunch of chatty idiots. This should have been dealt with way back in the ninth inning.
Don't act like you know what's happening if you aren't actually in the chat... if you were, you'd see it’s actually one of the best places to hang out... where people actually talk in full sentences, deconstruct love, build friendships... and deal with those ego-driven types who caused the quality drop in the first place by making everything nonsensical.
But damn... this isn't how you do it... you can't just push your own agenda without an ounce of respect. I would have respected you and your decisions way more—no matter how questionable they were—if you had just hopped into the chat and let us know what was planned. That's the bare minimum level of respect expected from someone with your moderator authority. But hey, props to you for this... it’s not easy showing respect to others when you can just play the part of the big, powerful, and righteous queen here on the forum...

And you are more than welcome to keep doing all of that over on Off topic.

When you try to patronize others, it just makes you look silly rather than authoritative.
The reason I haven't participated is simply because I don't find the current state of it to be high quality, you see?

I honestly can't tell if that bolded text was a clumsy attempt at sarcasm or a sincere argument for why the chat should be reinstated, but either way, it’s quite funny. 😁

this isn't the way to do things... you can't just act on your own whims without any shred of respect. I would have appreciated it much more—both from you and regarding your decisions, no matter how questionable they might seem—if you had just stepped into the chat to announce what was being planned. That represents the bare minimum of respect that your role as a moderator should entail. But, kudos to you... it isn't easy to show respect to others when you can just come to the forum and play at being big, powerful, and righteous.

How many times do I need to explain that these aren't MY decisions, but collective ones? Do you even know how to read?

I think you're exaggerating here because you clearly have some personal issues with me and my fellow moderators, which is evident from the posts in the newly moved chat, as well as from this:

Keith Cox6 said:Why didn't you lead with that? Everything makes perfect sense now.🙏
Long live nepotism, cronyism... and cloning.🙏

You're making accusations without a shred of evidence, throwing out insinuations, and drawing the completely illogical conclusion that just because I (pay attention now) am the one who moved the chats from the US side, then I should be the one to do the same for the LJES side.

I consider you to be a low-quality forum user and a poor debater, so I won't be wasting my breath arguing this specific case with you.

I have explained my position quite clearly, and I don't intend to engage with any further mockery or distortions of the facts. There.

You are all free to continue hanging out over on Offtopic as you always have. That’s all there is to it.

Look, you really need to take a breath, grab a heavy drink, and then maybe come back when you're ready to actually talk. Seriously.

mistywolf17 said:I guess you should just read through my previous posts. If it still doesn't make sense after that, then I'm sorry, but I can't help you.

The thing is, they don't allow chats on DiK because basically every thread there turns into a chat anyway.

Well, you might as well have sent it. Maybe send it to another one too, just to be safe. I doubt they would have even noticed this thread without you.

So they won't let you move threads over to DiK? What a joke of a decision. 😁 Personally, I think putting them on DiK makes the most sense.

As if the moderators actually give a damn, they just view everything as some random chat garbage while they run wild without even having a single thing agreed upon among themselves. 😉

If you want to hear about their supposed mutual agreement, maybe you should ask whoever already passed along that information from the moderator board. 🙂

It’s obvious why Brandon Castillo4 is voting for DiK since he hasn't even been reading the chat, so I get it, but you were actually hanging out in the chat and saw all the stuff we were doing to help people out, so do you honestly think things are gonna be different over on Offtopic?
By attacking the chat, you're just killing the soul you helped build.
You guys already killed thirty different chats, but everyone just ended up migrating over to Prst anyway.
The US seriously needs a chat and a place to hang out, because you think people only come online to whine?

I don't want to clutter things up by starting a whole new thread, but I honestly feel like the "no-nonsense" topic should just be moved over to the Offtopic PDF. There’s way more spam going on there than in the chat thread anyway. 🙂

Alright, let me put you on the spot here—hopefully, you can give me a response that actually holds water.
What is the actual logic behind not having a chat on a subforum specifically titled "Lonely Hearts"?
I mean, I could wrap my head around them not having a chat in some random PDF section, but we're talking about a subforum where lonely people gather, likely with the intention of meeting someone—even just virtually through conversation—rather than just posting on threads or leaving classified ads.
It just doesn't click for me, especially given the explanation from mistywolf17. Honestly, I'm surprised she even tried to frame that as logical; to me, it feels like nothing more than a whim, which isn't how she usually comes across on this forum.
If the concern was the chat drifting in an unwanted direction, then the solution should have been to moderate it.

Honestly, there's this whole "invisible war" going on between half the people on this forum. Moving things around would probably just trigger total chaos and mess up the existing order—which, personally, I’m kind of here for. 😁
My plea to switch everything over is really just coming from my own chaotic nature. 😁

Look, what you think of me doesn't change the facts. Honestly? It’s a good thing we two actually clicked so well. If we hadn't... well, you wouldn't be waving goodbye right now, retreating from a "debate" that barely even got off the ground—one where I definitely could have backed up my points if you'd actually stayed.

No explanation needed on why we don't need a chat on the US platform. Just embrace the chatters, and it's done.

The only post I ever made over there was just saying "coming soon," and honestly, that wasn't even meant for any actual people. It was more for my computer, which desperately needed some dust cleaned out—that's the only way it was going to understand what I wanted from it. 🙂
I already gave my reasoning for why the thread should be removed. To be honest, it reminds me of that line from a movie: "Some men just want to watch the world burn."

I’m asking the moderators to explain why that chat over on the US site makes absolutely no sense.
I live in Oakland (not Chicago), and honestly, I'm just a lonely soul—a bit insecure, deeply into spirituality and philosophy, and people tend to label me as a weirdo who can't even type a coherent sentence. I’ve started countless threads in the chat, and I’ve done my best to help everyone out whenever I could.
So, please, give me a reason why I should be flagged for being Off topic (keep it short and sweet)?
Have you ever actually participated in our discussions? No, you haven't.
In fact, you weren't even there because you only show up when it suits you. And hey, you have every right to do that. But I don't think I should be punished just because you guys weren't doing your jobs as moderators when things started spiraling out of control and turning into pure spam.
I’m a very peace-loving person, but I am seriously considering taking this to a wider audience. To me, this looks like yet another case of an abuse of power, where people forget that their roles exist to make the forum a welcoming and civilized place for all of us, not the other way around.

If the concern was the chat drifting in an unwanted direction, then the solution should have been to moderate it.

Do you really think the other people joining the US isn't lonely?
And is the chat truly the best or only way to meet and socialize?

The whole intention here is to make the subforum a much more constructive environment.
Chatting happens everywhere, practically within almost every thread, provided it contributes to a productive discussion. That's a perfectly normal occurrence, and frankly, we even encourage it ourselves. 😬

Have you perhaps had a chance to look over the rules? There's a reason why someone might get a warning just for posting a single smiley face or for putting something in their 'signature.'

For those users who have become close friends through chatting, there is a dedicated subforum where they can continue to socialize. There's also private messaging. There are all sorts of ways to build connections without it being solely about padding your post count.

Besides, the way things are set up, it encourages users to step outside their specific chat topics and wander over to other subforums. I won't even mention how peculiar it is to see people who NEVER post anywhere else except within a specific chat topic on one particular subforum. 🙄
