Man, yesterday I finally checked a massive item off my bucket list: I actually saw Jean Michel Jarre live 😁





The show went down at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Since it was an indoor gig, it didn't have that huge open-air vibe, but honestly—anyone who lives for Jean Michel Jarre's sound had an absolute blast.
The sound was killer, Jean Michel Jarre was in a great mood, and the crowd was totally stoked (aside from a few folks who probably snagged cheap tickets and bailed after just a few tracks)

At 8 PM, Jean Michel Jarre is performing the full Oxygène album. Tickets are running anywhere from $45 to $60.
I missed his show back in Budapest 97. Hopefully, I don't miss it this time—though, let's be real, those ticket prices aren't exactly a steal 😢

Honestly, $50 for the east or west stands for a show like this isn't much.

Man, this is absolutely incredible. What a lineup of shows we've been getting lately in Chicago!!! We've got Coldcut coming up this Saturday, and then Jean Michel Jarre in about a month. I am beyond stoked!!

How long did the concert actually run?

heh, man, that feels like forever ago... from what I remember, he played the (new) Oxygène album in NYC plus a few extra tracks—ran for about an hour and a half or so...

Man, I’ve always had this deep-seated desire to catch a live show just to actually experience it the way it was meant to be felt...
It’s just a damn shame, though; looking at the tour schedules, it doesn't seem like they ever make it out this way toward the States very often... 😢

I guess we've steadily lost that emotional connection to sound.

It wasn't even that long ago that a high-end Hi-Fi setup was the heart of the American living room; now, we just blast tunes through tiny plastic speakers hooked up to a laptop.

Since music has gone nomadic, maybe we've just stopped caring as much about the quality of our gear.

As a musician, I've always pushed to make sure my albums and live shows deliver a sound that gets as close to perfection as possible.

The smaller version has been sitting on the shelves at Best Buy for a while now... honestly, besides that weird design that might actually look cool in your living room, I don't think the device has much else going for it.
obviously, Jean Michel Jarre's signature style is front and center. basically bzze.

Man, I really wish I could've been there for this one.

I’ve noticed he doesn't really stick to a fixed setlist—sometimes there's more Oxygène, other times it leans into Equinoxe—but honestly, I don't care. Whatever he plays, I know I'm going to have a blast. 🙂

Though, I might end up missing Zoolookologie down the road.

Here is what Jean Michel Jarre had to say about the Eminent 310:

"This synth defines my sound, from Les Mots Bleus by Christophe and The songs of Patrick Juvet, right up to Oxygène and Equinoxe , where i used IT heavily. To this day, i still Use IT frequently. Along with the VCS3, this is one of the fundamental instruments of my music. It’s an organ developed by Dutch Who were The First to figura out How to create chords fra electronic sounds. IT was fra this First string ensemble that The Solin emerged , which is nowadays Better known Than The Eminent , even if The Eminent is Three Solinas together with a notably richer sound. The Eminent Can be heard on Oxygène and Equinoxe, adding that gliding, phased feel. The background story to this sound is that it’s the VCS3 and The Eminent passed through a Smalltone, a phase pedal for guitars, which created this very opulent sound similar to that of chords, but of course much more electro."

Maurice Jarre—you know, Jean Michel Jarre's dad—is a total legend himself. He even composed the score for Lawrence

And honestly, looking back at all those tracks used in old American commercials and background scores, I seriously doubt anyone ever even bothered to ask him for permission!
