Megan Williams5 said:This is such a great topic—I’ve read so much useful stuff here—but I’m honestly not sure if any of it actually fixes sinus issues for good. I was diagnosed with chronic sinusitis about 10 years ago. Things were much better over the last five years because I spent so much time at the beach, which really helped. I went from having about 20 flare-ups a year down to just a few.

And then, since I didn't make it to the coast last year, my sinus nightmare started back on May 1st and hasn't stopped. First, life got super stressful and my immune system just tanked. I went to this party, came home, and suddenly everything went south—total congestion. It had never happened to me like this before, so I panicked, which obviously made everything worse. My 13-year-old brother, who deals with heavy allergies, was trying to comfort me and telling me to just relax so I'd feel better. The next day, the choking sensation returned, so I hit the ER, took some Claritin, and felt a little better. But it wasn't sticking. A week later, I saw my doctor, and she put me on antibiotics. I finished them yesterday, and well, yesterday things went downhill again. Congested sinuses, runny nose, coughing, post-nasal drip... at least it hasn't hit my bronchi yet, otherwise I'd be suffocating.

It looks like I'll have to redo my allergy testing, since I used to only have very mild allergies to feathers and dust. I haven't had a CT scan, so I don't know if I have a deviated septum, though it's possible given my dad has sinus issues. On top of that, my mom and brother are massive allergy sufferers. I don't even know what to do anymore—I've been fighting this non-stop for 20 days... inhalers, Tylenol for the mucus, Claritin, antibiotics... nothing is working. 😢

Squeeze out a lemon, mix in 2-3 tablespoons of honey (make sure it's real local honey, not that cheap stuff from the grocery store), and add 15 drops of propolis. Mix it up and take it by the spoonful using a plastic spoon—just let it sit under your tongue for a bit before swallowing (do this twice a day).
If it's a bacterial infection, try squeezing a lemon and finely chopping a clove of garlic, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then add the honey.
These are just natural remedies, so they shouldn't hurt you if you want to give them a shot.
Along with that, you should probably rinse your sinuses with saline or get one of those Neti pots from the pharmacy to clear the congestion and get that buildup out. If you can't get that, start with the stuff above and hopefully you'll see some improvement.

Thanks, Caterina, I'll give that a shot... Personally, I am a huge proponent of natural remedies; they actually work, and you don't have to rely on pills quite as much. 😁

I just started a second, stronger antibiotic, and honestly, after two days, I can already feel an improvement. Maybe this will finally settle down. My sinuses are still frequently congested and my head aches, but it isn't nearly as bad as before. Plus, the fever has finally broken. I use saline spray constantly, regardless of whether my sinuses feel inflamed or not, and steam inhalation helps too. I really need to be more careful and keep my immune system at its peak; this past month has been pure misery, and I certainly don't want a repeat performance. My doctor also insists that I spend time by the ocean, which truly does wonders for me.

I am preparing for a bio-laser treatment for allergic rhinitis with Dr. Miller, who comes highly recommended. If anyone has recent 😁 experience, please share it here or send me a DM. Thank you.

So, back in July 2019, the FDA gave the green light to the very first drug specifically for treating nasal polyps. It’s this biologic called Dupixent, which you can get here in the States via injection. It was originally known for tackling skin issues, but lately, they've been using it for both polyps and asthma too. Anyway, if you're struggling with nasal polyps—maybe you're looking at surgery, or perhaps you've already had the procedure and the polyps just keep coming back like uninvited guests—I’d really suggest chatting with your ENT. You can get it through a prescription from a hospital specialist, otherwise, the cost hits $3.25 (for 2 injections). If you want to dig deeper, there's a whole community on Meta in the Dupixent (Dupilumab) Discussion Group. From what I’ve gathered from folks who have tried it, those polyps can start backing off after just the first shot, and people are actually getting their sense of smell back!
