They’re forecasting temperatures hitting up to 102 degrees next week, and that’s just in the shade..😲
It looks like this heat is sticking around all week long, too. So, I guess we're looking at a full-on heatwave..😳
The UV index is supposed to be over 8, which is pretty intense. I won't be going anywhere without sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and stuff like that.. How are you guys planning to "survive" the coming week, or even the month?
Especially if you aren't at the beach and actually have to work or go to class....
Though, honestly, it probably won't be much better even at the coast, since the water temperature is expected to be around 82 degrees..😲

Hat on, water in hand, light snacks, and staying out of the sun... that's pretty much my entire survival strategy now.

Here’s my game plan for next week: hitting the gym super early, probably around 6:00 or 6:30 AM. After that, I'll be hiding out in some air-conditioned spot to stay cool until maybe 8:30 or 9:00 at night. Then, if the weather behaves, I might grab a coffee on a patio—fingers crossed there's even a little breeze! I won't be heading to the beach until the end of the month though...

Ugh, I honestly feel a bit sick just thinking about having to squeeze into that sweltering, stuffy subway car tomorrow.🙂
I think I might actually collapse..😳

I won't hit the beach until the end of the month.

It’s going to be a hell of a week.

My office has zero air conditioning. I’m going to die in my shoes and long pants.
Evening training sessions are officially underway. I’ve started my prep for the New York City Marathon. It’s a grind. Up until last year, there was a pool over by the Mississippi River where I could cool off after a run. Now? That's gone. Nothing left. 😠 It’s a total scam. They don't care about anything else except gouging people with those overpriced ticket prices at the tournament.😠

The only thing left to refresh my soul is Water Country.

I just hope I can actually get some sleep tonight.

Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid the sun. Stick to light meals. Simple as that.

I’m waiting until mid-August to hit the coast. I’ll head out once fall starts rolling in—that’s how the weather’s played out the last two years, anyway.👎

Every single day, it feels like the sirens from the local EMS are wailing like they have nothing better to do. I honestly can't tell... is it because people are genuinely falling ill? Or am I just being overly dramatic? I suppose I am quite sensitive to the weather—I get a bit shaky when things shift—but the heat itself doesn't bother me much, provided the barometric pressure stays steady. Mostly, though, I think the issue is simply a lack of common sense. I truly don't understand those folks who head out to run errands without grabbing a bottle of water; as if carrying hydration is some Herculean task! Just replenish your fluids, add a pinch of salt, and you'll be fine! And while everyone assumes the elderly are the most vulnerable, they might actually be the safest group since they aren't out wandering around as much—which really makes you wonder about the middle-aged crowd commuting to work every day, or the college students working grueling shifts at construction sites...

By the way, I still have 8 exams left before I can finally call this year finished + I am definitely NOT going to the Floridaaaaaa😎 😢

I feel like these 90-degree days are actually nothing compared to what’s coming—so maybe we should start getting used to it now
just grab a hat, some water, a long-sleeve shirt, and sunglasses. And yeah, probably hit those park fountains more often... 🙂 Just gotta try and convince my body that 90 degrees is totally fine

In a few years, we'll be hitting 50, and suddenly being 40 is going to feel like being a saint.

I must say, I am genuinely terrified of these hellish heatwaves we're enduring...

To make matters worse, we are supposed to head out to a friend's vacation home this weekend. Her place is always stiflingly hot, and she doesn't have any air conditioning installed...
I simply cannot fathom how we are going to manage once the temperature hits its peak over the next few days.
Honestly, I feel as though we're all just going to drop dead like flies in this sweltering heat.

And they’re actually planning to head out to a friend's cabin for the weekend... her place is always a furnace because she doesn't have AC...
I have no idea how anyone is going to survive when the temperature spikes over the next few days...
Honestly, we're all just gonna drop dead like flies.

Wow, thanks for the comforting words... really helpful.
You're still down at the coast? Come join us here in downtown Chicago where it feels like standing on a hot sidewalk with zero breeze.

So, after my morning jog today, I found myself stripping down to just my underwear and standing there, staring into the open fridge for what felt like an eternity. Mmmmmmmmmmm... :doughnuuuuts: (And please—I am begging you—don't let any of you random internet critics chime in with some "that's not healthy" lecture—believe me, I am already fully aware of that fact!)

You're still out by the coast? You should come join us here in Chicago, standing on a windswept pier in the middle of a gale without even a jacket.

Look, honestly, whenever I'm downtown, I usually just hunker down in some apartment under the AC to escape the heat...
But we only have this one window next week to head out to the lake house, and it is absolutely sweltering there....
If anyone in our group happens to get sick, there isn't a hospital or an ambulance for miles in any direction....

Don't sweat the heat at the beach—I guess a late-night swim always helps you sleep better.
I guess you should also try to hang out in nature in the shade during the day, maybe keep the cooking to a minimum and stick to lighter meals. Making some iced tea sounds like a great way to stay refreshed too—probably better than alcohol since that just makes you feel even hotter.
I guess you shouldn't rely on AC too much. It’s kind of bad for the environment, and honestly, it might be better to start getting used to the heat now so it doesn't hit you so hard later.

For anyone dealing with the heat without AC: I guess you should probably start closing the blinds and windows before noon to keep the heat from creeping in. Maybe try not to cook during the day—I usually just whip up lunch in the morning instead. I also hang some big wet sheets or blankets over my balcony and give them a little spray now and then, which helps quite a bit. A ceiling fan might be a good idea too for when it cools down in the morning or evening, though I don't actually have one. Oh, and definitely take extra showers.
And most importantly—this won't really change the heat we're feeling right now—but I guess everyone should probably try to do their part to cut down on their own carbon footprint.

Besides that, you really ought to spend your daytime hours out in nature under the shade, keeping the cooking to a minimum and sticking to light meals. I highly recommend making yourself some iced tea to stay refreshed (just avoid the alcohol, as that actually makes you feel warmer)
And try not to rely too heavily on the AC; first off, it isn't great for you, and secondly, you'll just have to face even more intense heat later on. It’s probably wise to gradually acclimate yourself to the temperature.

We certainly make an effort to follow all of those suggestions...
Besides, our vacation cottage doesn't even have air conditioning....
The only thing is... man, that idea about swimming at night to help with sleep... that could be a wonderful suggestion...
Truly a wonderful idea...

Vance is already saying it'll be a normal 95 degrees in just a few years!
And when it rains, it'll be a total washout, and when the sun hits? It’s gonna fry us!

Honestly, it’s really starting to weigh on me. If this is what we're dealing with now, I can't even imagine how much worse things will get later on.😳 😳 I can't even bring myself to picture what our lives will look like.
It feels less like reality and more like some kind of horror movie or a disaster flick.

I honestly can't believe someone would even ask a question like this.
Don't you follow the news at all? We're looking at a potential global catastrophe by 2070, and if things don't turn around by then, we're basically talking about an apocalypse. I mean, to start with, we'll probably face extreme droughts because rainfall is expected to drop off completely. People will obviously suffer from the heatwaves, too. And the ozone layer? It could just vanish.😲 We'll likely see wars breaking out over water and oil... I actually read all of this in the Globe, based on research conducted by some scientists.

Why does this bother us so much? My goodness...🙄
