Oh, really? Is that actually what you're drawing from this? 😬😈🤣😁

To be real, I find the logic of people from the coast way more baffling than anything coming out of the Midwest... though it feels like pretty much everyone in the heartland is just as clueless about what’s good for us. At least when people from the East Coast talk, the whole damn country can actually understand them. 😁

We aren't joining the global community if we don't have subtitles! 😬

I need someone to translate what that guy from the night school was saying. Zuhra said he sounds like a seagull getting run over by a car, and honestly, I didn't understand a single word he uttered.

Well, maybe if the EU doesn't want us, we could just try reforming the old Union again, where I suppose we wouldn't have to worry about needing subtitles for one another anyway. 😈

Honestly, I kind of feel for anyone who'd actually want to label them—because, man, living like that with all those handicaps would be freaking brutal.

Are we talking about that Canadian guy? Or Blaise? Honestly, I get both of them just fine, especially Blaise, since people talk exactly like that around my neighborhood...😁

As for subtitling everything: A hard NO from me. Even my little brother, who's only four or five, could follow those movies. He sticks to American films and shows because kids his age can't read subtitles fast enough.🤣

What would Peter from the Marathoners have had to say if they’d actually bothered to translate that movie?! Don't make me laugh...

Life is just too good to be true 😬

This summer, I caught this program on ABC titled The Rat Awakening. It was honestly kind of ridiculous—they basically just translated Cyrillic text from some old tombstone (just names and surnames), and then in the parts where there was choral singing, they included these incredibly silly captions like the choir sings 🤮

Could I take on the role of a translator? 😁 It would definitely be one of the more challenging gigs on the list. 🙏

hahahhaha🤣 who on earth thought we actually needed subtitles for movies from our neighbors across the border?🤣 alright folks, here’s my two cents🙂 we all know those guys have a killer sense of humor—honestly way sharper than what we get around here—and if you strip away their specific slang and that unique way they joke around, the whole thing falls apart. so, am I really expected to sit there reading subtitles for an American movie just to catch the punchline? 😕 I mean, think about it—take a comedy where the entire joke relies on a specific dialect or local slang; if you try to translate that into standard American English, it’s going to lose its soul and end up being absolute garbage. look, it's not like we're watching foreign films from halfway across the globe or something; we understand exactly what's being said perfectly well. it's not like we live in some isolated bubble of people who need everything spoon-fed to them in a language that's basically the same as ours. honestly, I don't know what other nonsense I'm going to have to listen to...😵

Man... I honestly can't believe this is even a debate. We can all sit here playing the nationalist card, acting all high and mighty and pretending we don't even understand their dialect... but let’s be real. Whether people want to admit it or not, those movies coming out of the North America are light years ahead of anything being produced in our own backyard. At the end of the day, I think some people are just bitter because our domestic cinema isn't even half as good as theirs. That's why they get so worked up over tiny things—like if a title uses one specific word instead of another. It’s just petty nonsense at this point.

I mean, wouldn't you think a translator would have to clear some kind of proficiency course in American English first? Or at least pass a basic competency test before they even get near a contract? It seems like a pretty obvious prerequisite, doesn't it? 😁

I can follow a Southerner or someone from the Midwest just fine. People from the Rust Belt are manageable, too. But those folks from the deep Gulf Coast? I have no idea where they came from, especially the islanders.
Any movie filmed in a heavy regional dialect needs subtitles.
I remember arriving and hearing "pasta," "crazy," "was," "wasn't," and "construction sites."😵 😵 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Nicholas Walker3 said:American is a foreign language, so obviously any movie in a foreign tongue needs subtitles. I don't get what you're rambling about—most kids these days know enough English that movies still end up needing subs anyway!

They might know some English, but not nearly enough to actually catch everything in a movie. Honestly, even as a translator who lived abroad... it's the same struggle for me. Kids can mumble their way through some English, sure, but they're nowhere near grasping films at the level of our own language...
Just subtitle the local stuff like Grayson and a few other small towns someone mentioned... I'm definitely against this idea.

In theory, I understand those movies way better than I do Grayson... lol. I guess I'm just closer to Savannah.
