Subtitles for Mexican movies?

I get the feeling this whole idea was cooked up by some veteran advocacy group somewhere. 🙂

Dubbing is hands down the worst thing you can do to a movie...
It’s basically like messing with the soundtrack or changing the entire color grade of the film!

If we ever turn into those mindless idiots who think they can just dub a series with one single voiceover, I’m honestly going to end it all and blame NBC 😠

And regarding subtitles... Look, I guess it makes sense to subtitle Mexican films since it's a different language, but then again, it's not like we don't get the gist of what's happening anyway... Hmm.. I don't know.. Honestly, let's just not show Mexican films at all and there won't be a problem (we've all probably seen *Coco* about 14 times already anyway 😬 )

I'm assuming that people in the Czech Republic don't bother subtitling or dubbing their local films and shows. And honestly, there's probably a good reason for that.

Subtitling is one thing, but can you even imagine if they actually had the bright idea to sync foreign movies for us? 😲 😲
Their movies are honestly great just because of those raw, unfiltered swear words and all that local slang they throw around everywhere.
I mean, just think about it—would Germans really bother subtitling Austrian films, or Czechs doing Slovak ones? Would the British subtitle Americans, or Brazilians do Portuguese, or Argentinians do Spanish? It’s just not how it works!

it would be a genuine shame if you actually understood the dialogue of the film and still felt the need to read the subtitles

Honestly, it would be a massive help if they actually started dubbing movies and shows featuring people from the South Coast—or at least sync them properly. I swear, half the time I can't even catch two words of their dialect before I've completely lost the plot. We’d basically need to hire full-time translators just to turn that regional slang back into standard American English so we can actually follow what's happening on screen.

Honestly, I've been trying to pick up some Cyrillic lately. I feel like it's something you really ought to know, especially since there's a massive amount of incredible technical literature written in it. A professor even told me once that back at the university, they were required to study from books in Cyrillic, so if you didn't know it, you were pretty much stuck...

Don't sweat it—neither the subtitles nor the dubbing will ever pass.
