Jason Chavez32 said:You guys are such absolute frauds and jerks. One person decided they were suddenly an expert and started trash-talking Morales, and now you're all just jumping on the bandwagon. 🙂

Morales is a legend—a literal institution. Anyone hating on him like this clearly doesn't give a damn about dance music or have any respect for what he actually built for the scene. Sure, maybe he isn't some trendy name on everyone's radar right this second, but the guy is one of the architects of house music. Seriously, people, he was spinning records at Paradise Garage before most of us were even a thought. This man has dozens of number-one hits under his belt. He’s got a Grammy. He’s done remixes for Madonna, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, U2, Björk...

You honestly have no clue what you're talking about. When you disrespect Morales, you're disrespecting the entire culture of dance music. 👎

Just go listen to Sessions 7 or Cream Anthems and compare that to the garbage being played over the last six or seven years. You can take that "modern production" and shove that Grammy right up your ass—that's not house.

Oh, man... 🙏 🙏 .s

For everyone else out there trying to hate—look, Morales is a literal legend. We're talking about the roots here. If it weren't for him and the crew he ran with, who knows what the scene would even look like today—if it even existed at all.

For the rest of you haters, Morales is a legend. He’s the foundation. If it weren't for him and his peers, there's no telling what the scene would look like today... if there even was a scene at all.

You're better off starting your own thread😉 just to find people who agree with you... besides, the roots go much, much deeper than you realize🙂

Look, I never actually said the opposite, but I think Morales played such a massive role in this that you can't just dismiss him that easily. It’s kind of like saying, "Yeah, modern cars are great, but Henry Ford and Otto Benz were total idiots who never actually built anything useful." 👎

btw, Morales actually won a Grammy back in the nineties for Remixer of the Year.

Look, I’m not denying your obsession with him, nor am I trying to convince you he isn't your absolute favorite... if you want to respect him that much, fine... 😉 Just accept that tastes differ... makes things easier... If Depeche Mode doesn't do anything for me, it doesn't mean I'm rejecting your opinion or you personally... though it seems like that's exactly what you're doing... hihihi...😘

I’m just trying to be objective here. I’m a massive fan of house music, but honestly, even Morales doesn't really do anything for me personally. 😳

But man, when I stop to think about the fact that this guy was spinning records at Paradise Garage back in the late seventies—it gives me chills.

What’s so bad about admitting that? You don't have to be a fan of Michael Jackson or his specific sound, but denying that he's the greatest pop artist of all time would just be—well, plain stupid.

I’m still convinced people are only trashing Morales because it’s the "cool" thing to do right now... 🙄

Look, if some people don't want to hear it, fine. If you prefer other stuff, whatever. But saying Morales isn't a god? That's a stretch. And yeah, he won an award for being a REMIXER, not as a primary producer, but if that fact doesn't mean anything to you, then you clearly don't get it.

Congrats, you just snagged a Grammy for the most useless, unreadable post of the year! 😳

This Saturday morning, between 8 and 9 AM, there’s an interview on KEXP with the best DJ on the planet... I'm expecting nothing less than technical perfection on at least four turntables 🙏 🙏 🙏

Of course, they're talking about Morales 🙏 🙏 🙏

And for all you LSD lovers and Goa trance heads out there, it's time to show up at the local club for a Goa trance party. Come join about a hundred other fanatics who'll be dancing on acid 😍 😍 😍

The whole point of this thread was supposed to be about the game mechanics—just sharing ideas and having a decent discussion—but I guess everything just boiled down to this unnecessary obsession with Morales... Honestly, spider, you might as well just start a whole new thread dedicated to him, where everyone can sit around talking about his skills, his tattoos, his muscles, and all that stuff.😁

By the way, I'm originally from California—though I work in New York City now—and I found some of those comments about girls from the West Coast a little offensive... but hey, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion...
If I'm heading out to a show... I'm definitely not going there to hunt for a guy!!! I go to soak up the music (Morales certainly isn't the type! 👎 ), dance my heart out, have fun, and hang out... basically everything that PLUR used to represent, which I think some people still hold onto today 😘
And honestly, trance is just something special... at least for me 🙂 ...there's this unique energy among the crowd... it's almost like everyone is mentally connected... and you always see that slight, peaceful smile on people's faces...

Exactly that😘
Who are you, really?😁

I’d also add that what briskranger2 is talking about is a whole river... it's truly a unique culture—not just a river of dancing, but a way of life... unfortunately, that kind of scene doesn't really exist here in California... and sadly, we don't even have a solid techno scene anymore either; it all feels like just faint traces of what the scene was like back in the late nineties or early 2000s...

Look, there are people here in New York City from California who I know have been in the trance scene for like ten years now. Even then, you can't really say NYC even has a decent scene—it’s maybe 200 people if you count anyone at all. Honestly, it's better that way if you ask me. Is it even possible to obsess over something for a decade if you don't actually love it?

There are a few freaks like us who are obsessed with Goa trance, even though that sound is basically extinct. Whatever they're playing now that claims to be its successor is just an insult to the name.

And then there's Morales... so today I'm heading to work and listening to some local radio station, and they play these clips of Morales talking about celebrities he thinks are cool—Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, that pig Björk, and so on. Then the DJ goes, "This Saturday from 8 to 9 AM, you can listen to an interview with the BEST DJ in the world, David Morales." I can already see those posers who act like, "Oh, I'm going to a Morales set, wearing my flashiest designer gear, showered and perfumed just for this, because everyone who matters is gonna be at the club to show off." Seeing them makes me genuinely glad that I'm just a regular nobody compared to those types—people who will spend the next ten years talking about what was "in" back then, saying stuff like, "Man, remember when I went to a Morales set at the club ten years ago? That party was legendary."

🤮

So what, you think I should actually respect Morales and drop $50 just because he was someone important twelve years ago? Please. Even if Infected Mushroom played music I still listen to today, if they were playing a free show right now, I wouldn't bother showing up. They’re nothing special anymore, and their past hits don't mean squat to me. Why the hell should I respect someone who basically built the foundation for AOL Instant Messenger when his whole "underground" scene is stuff you can't even hear in bars, radio stations, or clubs unless some specific group of people decides to organize something rare?

Maybe there's 200 people at most, if that, and honestly, I think that’s probably better that way. I mean, isn't it possible for someone to ride the wave of an actual genre for ten years even if they don't truly love it or live for it?

There are a few of us oddballs out there who are absolutely obsessed with Goa trance, even though that sound has pretty much vanished—and whatever has stepped in to take its place doesn't really deserve to carry the name.

🤮

I get what you're saying, but there's at least *something* happening in New York City—a real scene exists there—whereas in all of California, there's just... nothing. People tried to make things happen a long time ago, but it never quite stuck because the techno and house crowd was just too dominant... though we didn't really complain back then, since at least that scene had some real momentum, unlike how things feel today...

In that case, do you know val or Mickey and the others?👍

briskranger2 said:unfortunately, most people at house and techno shows just don't get it...it's not about being elitist, but I've been to enough of those sets to see that they aren't nearly as obsessed with the music as we hardcore trance heads are!

Well, yeah... when everyone's on acid, anything goes. 😍

That's exactly what I'm talking about, especially regarding that last point!

At the end of the day, trance—aside from some of that cheap full-on junk—isn't just "fun" music; it actually requires a deeper state of consciousness.
Especially when things start getting trippy. 😍 🤣 🙏

Take Prana - Boundless, for example! 🙏

I'm right there with you, and honestly, that’s why I hate going out to parties sometimes. The people who actually care usually head to smaller underground gigs with less famous lineups, the problem is there just aren't enough of those shows happening.
