I can’t stand the winter, honestly—it's brutal—but man, I am absolutely obsessed with 'Life in the North.' Do you guys remember those radio rants Chris used to go on? 🙏

Between this and OFAH, I guess this is just the best show ever.

This was such an incredible show. I remember being absolutely hooked as a kid—you really only need to sit through that first episode to get sucked in. Honestly, the final season felt totally unnecessary; it seemed like they were just trying to squeeze out a few extra bucks while the brand was still hot. Still, it’s a good series. It's funny how nowadays, even after a lead actor walks away, networks just keep stretching shows out for several more seasons.

I’ve got a specific question about season 3, episode 5: why does Fleischman find it funny at the end when he hears that the two guys who found him unconscious are from Topeka, Kansas? Does anyone know?

Because the whole episode is actually just a dream while he's unconscious—kind of like the search for the Wizard of Oz (where Dorothy loses consciousness in Kansas during a tornado and her only goal is getting back home).

Just wanted to check in... is anyone else still watching this amazing show? And honestly, does the final season actually hold up? Is it worth the binge?

Hey there. Honestly, Northern Exposure is one of my all-time favorites, though that final season was easily one of the most disappointing things I've ever seen...
Then again, I probably would’ve sat through the whole thing regardless if someone had warned me beforehand. It’s a total lose-lose situation 😁

The final season is definitely the weakest, though I wouldn't call it bad. The new doctor is a total miss, but the charm is still there. Still, one of the best episodes was in Season 6—The Search when Joel leaves. And all those episodes where they come to see him to realize how much he's changed.

The first four seasons are top-tier.

I mean, I might just sit through Sister, if only to catch that little song from the intro 😁... But seriously, does anyone know of any other shows with this kind of vibe? The only thing that comes to mind is Twin Peaks 🤷

vibe?

Man, it's giving me major Deep South vibes.

And if you're digging Twin Peaks, you absolutely have to watch the Netflix series "Carnival" — that little guy from TP is actually in it. The atmosphere is straight-up Twin Peaks, just set in the 1930s.

Gilmore Girls 🤣

So, have you actually watched Northern Exposure, or are you just making excuses because Gilmore Girls is set in a small town? The vibes are completely different. Northern Exposure was basically shaped by Twin Peaks—it’s that small-town feel mixed with a great snowy atmosphere. It’s rarely sunny; it stays moody and dark, which works perfectly because the characters are so eccentric. That gives the show such an incredible tone. Gilmore Girls is always bright and sunny, and the characters are poorly written.

Northern Exposure was created by two guys with philosophy degrees, which is why the show has such a unique philosophical depth. In terms of atmosphere, character development, and writing, Gilmore Girls isn't even in the same league. Don't bother watching Gilmore Girls. Honestly, nowadays, people think just setting a show in a small town makes it comparable to Northern Exposure.

Fantastic show.

I’m only 28, yet I can’t believe a silly TV show managed to rattle me this much.

Season 4, episode 18. So, he thinks it's unfair that he’s stuck in some backwater clinic dealing with hiccups while his peers at prestigious hospitals like Mayo Clinic soak up all the glory. But then again, those people funded his education, so I guess it isn't exactly unfair for him to pay them back now. It’s not like four years is the end of the world, presumably.

Then, because of inflation, they extend his obligation to five years. Still okay, I suppose. A bit predatory, maybe, but whatever.

However, I think they went way too far with this one. Denying him two weeks of vacation and then trying to mask it with some pseudo-social New Age philosophical nonsense... honestly, give me a break! I don't even know what they were aiming for (if anything), but this is the first episode where I can say I actually disliked it.

Yeah, I know I'm digging up a topic that’s been dead for a while now. 😵

Does anyone happen to have this on DVD, maybe we could work something out?

I had a feeling they were cooking up a revival, though I'm really not sure how I feel about the whole thing...
I'll probably tune in, I suppose, but there's definitely no real excitement on my end.
