So, I’m actually heading out on a road trip down to Miami this afternoon, and even though I’m still sitting here in NYC, I’ve been hit with this MASSIVE wave of anxiety since early this morning. It’s brought along some pretty intense stomach cramps and diarrhea, and honestly, I can’t stop shaking—I feel freezing cold, too. I’m really wondering what I can do to settle this nerves; is there something specific I could pick up at a pharmacy to help calm everything down? I would be so incredibly grateful for any advice you all might have.🙏 ...
I should mention that I tend to be quite sensitive to these things...

Valium (tbl.25x10mg / $4.50) 👍 You can find it in pretty much any pharmacy, so...

Is there some kind of over-the-counter medication I can pick up at a pharmacy or something similar? I would really appreciate any help🙏 ...
anyway, I’m pretty sensitive to this kind of stuff....

Look, what you’re asking about will probably help in the short term—but let’s be real, it isn't a long-term fix. In the long run, the only way to actually deal with this is to face those issues head-on and just get them out of your system.

Thank you all so much for the advice; I actually stopped by a local pharmacy and they gave me some Dramamine travel tablets, which have helped a bit—I’m feeling slightly better now—though that underlying anxiety hasn't quite left me yet. As for the stomach cramps and diarrhea, I've just been trying to settle my system with some dark chocolate and toast, plus I ended up taking half a box of Persen, though honestly, it feels like it has completely stopped working on me...
I am just praying that I can somehow manage to make it all the way to Miami...🙄

I’m honestly shocked—like, I can't even wrap my head around the idea of someone getting that anxious just driving from New York to Los Angeles 🤔 😕 :krizase:

And what kills me even more is that you actually suggested she take Valium!?!?!?!? Seriously? What would you even suggest she do when she hits a REAL crisis in life? Just go looking for the nearest bridge???

And what's even harder to swallow is that you actually suggested Valium !?!?!?!? Seriously? What are we supposed to suggest when life throws a truly catastrophic crisis at someone? That they go looking for the nearest bridge???

For people dealing with various phobias, everything feels equally terrifying—whether it's a long car ride, running to the corner store for bread, or jumping off a cliff.
It isn't some freak occurrence.

What *is* unusual here is simply that she didn't prepare herself beforehand for a situation she knew was going to be stressful.

I mean, I don't really get the vibe that we're talking about a full-blown phobia here—to me, it feels more like just a case of travel fever...

If they're popping Valium like candy, then sure, let's call it "phobic travel fever" if that makes you feel better. 😁

I actually dealt with two similar cases nearby where people headed to the coast totally drugged up... and honestly, it was a total disaster for them. 😢

I honestly don't see why the New York-Los Angeles connection matters so much here. 😬 Maybe if we were talking about the New York-Seattle Dana Cruz3 dynamic, she wouldn't be dealing with such anxiety and stomach issues.

You're gonna need some lube and starch, and honestly, maybe even a little bit of lubricant too

😲 Look, Dramamine is just for nausea from being in a car or a boat, blah blah blah. It has absolutely nothing to do with your mental state. No wonder you aren't feeling any better.
I deal with the exact same thing. For me, taking Perserine or Inia is a temporary lifeline, but honestly? We really need to get our heads right and fix our actual psyche. 😢 😢

I get this nervous knot in my stomach right before a trip because I end up hitting the bathroom way too often 😢 and then—because the anxiety just won't quit—I'm running to the restroom even more frequently 😁

For various psychological episodes, Xanax or Helix tablets are your best bet. You can get 0.25 mg. My only thought is they might require a prescription.
They won't knock you out or leave you feeling groggy.
If you have diarrhea, though, your only real issue is that the pills won't work because you'll just pass them right back out a few minutes after taking them.
For the diarrhea, Linex is your best move. Just drink 2 at once.

Linex is a total joke... Honestly. It works sometimes, sure, if you're dealing with a bit of infectious diarrhea, but I don't get it. Why would nervous guts even react to a shift in flora like that? If things get really bad and the diarrhea is hitting hard, just keep some Pepto-Bismol capsules on hand—maybe drink 2 whenever you're headed to the bathroom. But for heaven's sake, don't touch those if you think there's an actual infection brewing.

Two days before any trip, I can't even think about popcorn, peanuts, or anything like that—no soups, nothing liquid or cooked, no milk or yogurt either. I just make sure to chew my food really, really well 👎

A lot of people say that Canada is tiny

but honestly, it felt as massive as China to me while I was stuck waiting for the bus to pull up so I could finally hit the restroom 😲

People love to say Canada is tiny,

Here’s another one joining the club.

Once, I had some issues with my stomach and frequent urination. It puts pressure on my bladder, and ever since, it's been constant psychological stress—even if my stomach doesn't actually hurt. Now, whenever the bus makes a stop, I'm sprinting for the restroom (sometimes I even have to beg the driver to pull over for me). Is there any actual medicine for people like us?

Anti-diarrheals help sometimes, but they aren't a real fix...
