I’ll give Saturday a shot, since I'm still relatively young.

Started early in the morning. We missed New Year, and we mostly just listened while sitting down. But we had to move closer to the stage because Pegboy was just about to play. The band was, how should I put it, wasted on beer. Guitar playing was rough, the drummer kept dropping sticks and couldn't keep a beat, leaving only the bassist with a sour face and the guitarist with a weird haircut to pull through. Still, they were great.

After them, The Ex played. Almost the exact same set as they did in Chicago—just pure chaos and energy! The lefty guitarist cut his hand up, so he got blood all over the guitar. But he didn't quit. All in all, it was killer. We had to move back to the main stage though, because Killdozer was up next. Gerald was just screaming his lungs out until the end... it was good. Some people even bought records.

Moving over to the touch and go stage. Didjits came on. Rock and roll, man! Action, sex, raw nerves. Mr. Sims stood his ground against a rude crowd by being even ruder, then messed around with his guitar. Punk Roy Orbison style. We skipped Negative Approach because my legs were killing me and we needed to grab some food. We headed toward the bus near the touch and go stage because Scratch Acid was up next. Man... world-class stuff. Americans don't know how to chill; we were basically defending the country in the front row. It was a wild scene.

Then we skipped Man or Astroman, because we weren't about to leave space for someone from Virginia. From a distance, it looked like Man or Astroman was tearing things up, but whatever, Big Black was next. Steve showed up, then Bob and Coach arrived to set their gear up while the crowd cheered. The Big Black guys arrived, and Roland too. At some point, Steve lit some firecrackers and killed it! I tried to take photos, but the cables tripped me up and damn it. They smashed through three more songs and everyone left happy. Then Shellac. You have to see them to understand. Words fail me, but it was incredible. Maybe they lingered a bit too long on the last tracks, but seeing Coach tell his story made it worth it.

That's it.

pegboy 😍
been obsessed with them since last Saturday... I'll probably be singing their lyrics to my kids one day 😍
(their career path? 🤣)
so, what's the deal with their bassist? feels like something is off with him. anyone know more about the guy? 😁

just a heads up, the American crowd is pretty pathetic. everyone spends all their time apologizing for existing, but then a moshpit actually breaks out—usually during scratch acid, just because people want to prove they aren't total squares—and suddenly it's elbows everywhere and everyone's trying to take an eye out. yeah, not gonna happen.

not sure where those cowards were hanging out, but Mark and I definitely left some bruises on a few US kidneys over the last couple of sets. elbowing everywhere 👋

Speaking of which—Abigail puts it this way:
"touch and go: Home to about a hundred of the best bands ever. And !!!."
🤣 😍

we missed New Year's

Well, you guys are losers. ☕

If I’d actually used my head, I’d probably be sitting on a collection of 180g vinyl right now instead of staring at empty shelves.

I just want Sven's and Barin's record shop back! *sobs*

then there was the shellac. You really have to experience it; words don't do it justice. It was great. Maybe they dragged out those last tracks a bit too long, but seeing the coach tell his story made the whole thing worth it.

It’s a must.
And if only I had booked tickets for the Boston show... *sobs*
Even if their albums aren't always the strongest—it feels like the production sometimes swallows the actual songwriting, especially as they get older—I still think they're worth seeing live.

Man, they really delivered.
They were better for me back in Boston—not because of the actual performance, but just because of the setlist. They stretched out a few tracks forever and skipped stuff like Wingwalker entirely. But whatever, I’ve already heard them 😎 🙄
I don't know, I think they're just straight-up incredible live. And honestly? I loved them right after Big Black (I mean, I know they're a bit washed up now, but I guess I'm still a kid at heart and get excited about everything 🙂). Nuff said.

Todd basically ran his own little solo show right in the middle of the concert 🙏
"we can take photos, i can give you autographs, but DON'T BOTHER ME" 🙏

I think the new one could be really solid. Excellent Italian Greyhound.
("and it's on Geffen" 😁)
Even though I love them and all their albums, they're a completely different band live. Less talking, more action 😎
Next time they come to the States, I am totally down for another road trip...

I've been obsessed with them since that Saturday... I’ll be singing their songs until my dying day. 😍

So, does that mean Steve is officially back on the market? 😈 Hey, what's up? 😎 😁

I'm honestly feeling pretty depressed after watching those Big Black movies. I seriously cannot believe I missed out on getting my hands on some Big Black. 🙂 😢

Man, I feel that—it’s probably happening around this time of year for me too... except I’m just lying here like a total zombie with a fever, and I won't have any cash to my name for another six months, but whatever, I guess.

Look, man—it’s possible that whole thing was a complete mess, but I honestly don't care... she was pretty great (or maybe I just imagined it again, who knows?) 😬It's got this weirdly surreal vibe—the music is just... something else, I guess. Evil. Even if Steve was just joking around—as a huge fan of the darker side of music, that’s what’s going to stick with me most. Pigeon Kill was a little bit rebellious, I guess, but Racer X was actually surprisingly great. And Cables... honestly, those might stay among my favorite minutes ever.
The only thing going through my head during those fifteen minutes they were on stage was, "Man, this might actually be the best band in the universe."

They basically covered everything themselves—printing out cash on the plane, ten hours stuck in Chicago, dealing with a cockroach in the hostel room, and even that time we sat around watching Pine Bend flags. 😲 🙏

They literally paid for everything themselves—printing the merch on the plane, ten hours stuck in Chicago, staying in some absolute dump of a hostel room, heck, even just hanging out watching Pine Flag. 😲 🙏

Ugh, you basically stole the words right out of my mouth from some parallel universe where I was actually in Chicago with you guys. 😢

The intro is basically fifteen minutes of them rambling about how Mt. St. Helens erupted and how the band rose from the ashes and all that nonsense. Honestly, if you ask me, you could probably spawn an even better band from a pile of volcanic ash.

And yeah, they listened to the intro while sitting down, too.

I actually had this vague idea before hearing them that they might be a decent enough band. I was almost going to bug Rickey to take a peek at their digital archives. But whatever, forget it.

Alright, that’s enough out of me. I'm out...

The first two tracks were decent enough—everything else was just a worse version of what they did on their albums.

Don't act like I didn't talk you into it! 🙂

It was a mess, though—the Durango just won't play anymore, damn it🙂 🧐

Well yeah, true—but it wasn't in my price range.😢 Besides, if I actually went, I’d be stuck there until late September since Heavy Trash is playing then. 😳 😍

Anyway, just wanted to take this moment to say I absolutely loathe the Department of Science. Thanks.
