I have a few pads instead of pupils

So I went to get my pupils dilated this morning. I was finally done around 11:00 AM.
Of course, nobody bothered to mention that my pupils would be the size of a freaking pickle jar lid. One of those massive ones.
I stepped outside and just... "UUGH!!!! 🙂
I spent the next little while stumbling around town with my eyes shut, squinting through my eyelashes like a camel caught in a sandstorm just so I wouldn't walk into a wall. i dream of rain

By the time I got home, half my face was aching.
I called in to see if I could come into work later, assuming my pupils would have shrunk back down by then.
My mom typed the number in for me. Basically, I'm farsighted now whenever I have my contacts in. Starting today. I can't read anything; everything looks tiny and I can't push the letters far enough apart. Okay, maybe at about 6 inches away it gets slightly better, so I actually managed to read the newspaper. The letters were blurry as hell, but I did it.

I still have XL pupils.
And I'm still farsighted. With contacts on.
I haven't even taken them out yet.

Is this going to wear off by tomorrow morning? 🙂

Why on earth do pupils dilate? I honestly can't wrap my head around it. 😁

Are you dilating because they're usually too constricted? Or are your pupils just naturally tiny?

What a joke of an eye exam. First, they kept pumping drops into my eyes five different times, spaced out every 20 minutes. Then the optometrist pulls out this weird lamp thing—some kind of mirror with a tiny hole he looks through—shines a blinding light right into my pupil, and starts poking around inside my skull or whatever. 😁

I remember asking my eye doctor once, "Why don't my pupils ever dilate?" 😬 It feels like everyone I know who’s actually had an eye exam has gone through this at least once, yet somehow, I’ve managed to dodge it entirely. 😢 😁 Honestly, I kind of wanted to experience what it’s like to walk around and accidentally stare people down, haha.

He gave me this whole detailed explanation, but to be perfectly honest, I’ve already forgotten everything he said. 😁

My mom ended up dialing the number for me. See, since I started wearing contacts, I’ve become basically farsighted. As of today—I can't read anything close up and everything looks tiny, plus I can't hold things far enough away from my face. Okay, maybe once I get about 6 inches away it gets slightly better, so I even managed to squeeze out a reading of the newspaper. The letters were blurry, but I did it.

So yeah, still got XL pupils.
And I'm still farsighted. With my contacts.
I haven't taken them out.

Will this be gone by tomorrow morning? 🙂

They dropped those drops in so the doctor could check your prescription. It’s super common, especially if you have astigmatism, because that can be a real pain to measure accurately. My pupils looked like two black basketballs for six whole days—but hey, I still went out to a party looking like that!

Just keep your fluids up—water, wine, beer, whatever—and don't be afraid of salt or sugar... you'll hopefully get past these symptoms sooner rather than later.

I don't have astigmatism. But apparently, these drops completely trashed my vision. My contacts were fine at 7:30 this morning, but by noon, I couldn't read a damn thing. I can't even see myself to put on makeup. Everything on my plate looks blurry. I practically have to duct tape my phone to the back of a semi-truck just to read a text message when the truck is half a mile away.

My right eye was a -4.75 two months ago. Now they’re claiming it’s -5.50.
It's obvious these contacts—whether it's because of the drops or some other issue making my sight wonky—are useless now. They worked before the drops. Now? Forget it.
My left eye was -2.50 two months ago, and it's still -2.50. But now, even with contacts, I'm nearsighted. Everything is a blur and I can't read. I'm trying to read a book about Nikola Tesla and it's impossible. Just impossible.🙂
The doctor was messing around with those little lenses they put in glasses. I think it has something to do with that cylindrical thing. Whatever.

And just so you know, without contacts, I can see things up close just fine. I don't even know if my distance vision got better or worse; the change is so bad it's hard to tell.

Now I have to go get a visual field test.
Maybe it's because my optic nerve is looking a bit lighter than it should be. An ophthalmologist told me that before and sent me for the test, which came back okay.
She also told me that people with myopia don't even need their pupils dilated to see clearly.

Well, that "cylindrical thing" is basically just the type of lenses used specifically to fix astigmatism. 😉

It’s all about those angles in the cylinders—you know, those degrees you see written on your prescription? They basically adjust how the light hits your eye so it focuses right on that spot in your brain where everything comes together, because with astigmatism, the image just sort of scatters everywhere instead.

I think it has something to do with my cylinder prescription. Or whatever.

Ah, I went to one of those eye exams once upon a time. Honestly, it was pretty fun for about three days 😬 but I’m pretty sure I’d lose my mind without sunglasses 😎

My mom keeps telling me she thinks all lenses look cylindrical when you have a high prescription. 😕

And how am I even supposed to get an accurate reading if my eyes have been trashed all day? I put my contacts in this morning, grabbed the solution bottle, and could actually read those tiny letters up close—I was honestly feeling pretty great about it. 🙂

I don't own sunglasses. I’m just not a glasses person, so I don't have any, let alone shades. 🙂
