stormyviper11 said:I wanted to let you all know that the latest issue is out, and in my opinion, it covers some pretty engaging topics. Being an American publication at heart, the main feature focuses on the history, current state, and rather uncertain future of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We also have interviews with figures like Lewis Hamilton, Takuma Sato, and Sebastian Vettel, along with stories about the battle between Mario Andretti and Dr. Sebastian Vettel regarding safety improvements in NASCAR, plus a look at the legendary privateer Caracciola. And of course, there’s a bit on Ferrari too...

I suspect EVO might interest you as well, particularly those who appreciate the original Mini, which is hitting its fifty-year milestone.

Just so you know, you can follow quite a few automotive magazines right here: http://www.mojmag.com/Default.aspx?Id=5

Basically, you get notifications for new releases via email and such... skim through them, and apparently, they'll be available for purchase soon. Seems cool enough to me.

Since it's a British mag, the big feature is all about the past, present, and—let's be real—the pretty shaky future of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. But we've also got interviews with guys like Lewis Hamilton, Takuma Sato, and Sebastian Vettel, plus this deep dive into how Mario Andretti and Dr. Sebastian Vettel fought tooth and nail to improve safety standards in NASCAR. Oh, and they even threw in some bits about Ferrari...

I reckon even the folks who follow EL might dig this one, especially the gearheads obsessed with the original Mini, since it’s hitting its fifty-year milestone.

Not to brag or anything, but they actually picked my question for Sebastian Vettel! He gave a super detailed answer about how he handles driving in the rain. Pretty stoked about that!😁

So, did he give you any updates regarding Brazil 2008?😁

Nah, I mean—it just had to play out that way, honestly. He simply didn't have the pace to go any faster. The only move he really had left was to pull some Schumacher-style blocking or try to squeeze Lewis Hamilton off the track.😁 But man, I’d love to get a deeper dive into those specific laps from his perspective.😁

When does this year's NASCAR season coverage actually start hitting the stands? Are we looking at March? Also, when does the subscription kick in? I can't quite remember which issue was the last one to show up—I think my last one was from November, or maybe December? After that, I just ended up getting two issues of Eva magazine without any NASCAR included.

stormyviper11, we're still waiting on your take here🙂

Where on earth has NASCAR gone?😠

One thing that’s pretty much set in stone—and honestly, a big part of this mess is because we didn't even know if Haas F1 Team was going to broadcast NASCAR until just a few days ago—is that there won't be a magazine coming out in March. Whether we get back on track later in the season, and how we handle it (whether we go solo, partner up with Eva, or find some other way), we'll figure out in the next couple of days.

The willingness is definitely there, but the math just isn't adding up right now... still, we're trying our best to make something work.

As for whether we'll have one later in the season, or in what format (standing on our own, partnering with Eva, or something else entirely), we'll be making that call in the next few days.

The willingness is definitely there, even if the math doesn't quite add up yet, but we are working hard to find a way forward.

I honestly can't believe it😠😠

There was a time when this magazine was an absolute powerhouse, but lately, it feels like they’ve just settled for mediocrity

Look, if they want to go independent, fine—but at least try to maintain some semblance of quality instead of whatever this mess is right now

I wouldn't even think twice about dropping $12 on a subscription if they actually put in the effort

Trust me, the ticket price isn't even the main issue here; the revenue from circulation is just a tiny fraction of the pie. To actually make the math work on the financial side, you need advertisers. And let’s be real, companies in America just don't tie themselves to NASCAR—not even those massive corporations that drop millions globally to get their logos on the sport... NBC will probably carry the broadcast for one more season, but they'll almost certainly bail on the contract by 2011 because they can't cover the broadcasting costs through ad sales alone—it's the exact same problem. No advertising means no NASCAR. Not in print, not on TV...

Here’s a quick copy-paste of some stuff I posted over on another board... 🙂

My big dream? It would be to take an entire English magazine, condense it down to maybe a hundred pages, and then sprinkle in about twenty original pieces from a local perspective. You know, like having veterans give tips on road trips to races in neighboring states, keeping tabs on the young kids who might actually make it to NASCAR one day if luck is on their side, or digging up stories about historical racing legends who have ties to our neck of the woods... Over the years, both working in journalism and hanging out on forums, I’ve met plenty of people capable of cranking out top-tier original content—stuff we could honestly pitch to a major British publication. I just hope a better time comes along soon... specifically, a time when we finally get enough advertisers interested in getting close to Formula 1 to actually make a project like this happen.

Does anyone know if there’s an alternative for following NASCAR? I'm looking for some kind of magazine or publication dedicated to the sport. I remember back in the day, AAA used to put out a little booklet right before the season kicked off to get everyone up to speed.

You can find a manual just like that one over at the local AAA office.

Honestly, books just don't cut it—we really need a solid monthly magazine that keeps us fed with those exclusive, firsthand scoops. I totally get the drama surrounding NASCARRacing, but man, it would be such a massive bummer if they stopped publishing altogether. When it comes to NASCAR coverage, we don't exactly have a ton of options beyond grabbing NASCARRacing at the local newsstand. If only we had Autosport available too, though even that would probably be tied up with you guys over at Opus, so it’d likely be hanging by a thread anyway. Personally, I don't feel like I'm missing out on extra info as long as I've got NASCARRacing in my hands. Sure, I'm scrolling through news online constantly, but that’s a whole different vibe. The only other thing I pick up is buying books online, but let's be real, that's just not the same thing.

I'm really pulling for a positive outcome regarding the decision to keep NASCARRacing going, but hey, I get it if they decide to pull the plug. At the end of the day, you can't just ignore financial losses—money doesn't grow on trees, after all.

Best,
Michael

Does EL have some kind of NASCAR magazine in English if there isn't any good local racing coverage? This little booklet from AAA is absolute trash... they’ve still got USF1 listed in there!

It's tough, incredibly tough. Our market is just too small; that's the core issue. But if one publisher sold NASCAR (the exact same version—completely unfair, with the same ads) across the entire US, then it would actually have some traction. But like this? There's no chance. No magazine selling maybe 1,000 copies can survive—it needs to sell closer to 20,000 to be viable. That's the threshold. Because, you see, then advertisers would actually be interested since their ads would reach a wider audience. You know what I mean?

They definitely do. You can find the English version of NASCAR Racing—you could just flip through a few pages or pick up a copy for around ten bucks at Algorithm—as well as Autosport. Aside from those two heavy hitters, there's also Motorsport, which actually dates all the way back to 1924, though I'm not entirely sure if they're even still publishing regularly. There are probably a few smaller niche titles out there too, if you know where to look...

What do you mean "at Barnes & Noble"? I've been scouring their website and I can't find anything anywhere.🤷

Arthur Roberts12 said:I've been scouring their website for what feels like hours now, trying to track down where exactly they hide that algorithm, but I'm coming up empty-handed. It’s frustrating, isn't it? You think it'll be right there on the main landing page or tucked away in some technical documentation, but instead, you just end up clicking through endless submenus to nowhere. Does anyone else have experience navigating their interface, or am I just missing something obvious?🤷

Is it just me, or does it feel like everyone is suddenly obsessed with that one algorithm running through downtown Chicago? I was walking past a few spots near Millennium Park the other day, just taking in the city vibe, and I couldn't help but wonder if we’re all being nudged in the same direction by some invisible digital hand. It makes you stop and think, doesn't it? Is there a logic to the chaos of the streets, or is there something deeper at play behind the scenes? 👍

But like this? No shot. No magazine surviving on maybe 1,000 copies is ever going to make it—it’s impossible. You need to hit at least 20,000 to even stay afloat. That’s when you have something. Because get this: once you hit those numbers, advertisers actually start caring because their ads actually reach people. You know what I mean?

Even AAA, which is basically the most popular Car and Driver equivalent out there, only moves about 12k copies a month. So expecting this for NASCAR? Total pipe dream...
Besides, stormyviper11 already pointed out that these guys survive on ad revenue, not circulation numbers!
