Honestly, the absolute worst thing that can happen to you—besides actually dying—is a liver transplant (and yeah, I've been through that mess myself). Just look at that massive medical crisis we had right here in the States last year

I honestly don't feel any sympathy for people who end up poisoning themselves with mushrooms; if they’re out there foraging just to eat them, they knew exactly what kind of risk they were taking.
I’m a huge fan of mushrooms, but I remember one time I tried making a goulash using wild-picked ones instead of the store-bought variety, and let me tell you, it was a terrifying experience that left me clutching my stomach in pure panic. I told myself right then: NEVER AGAIN.
Since that incident, I make it a point to only ever bring mushrooms into my kitchen if they come from the grocery store.

Exactly... if you don't know your fungi from your fool's errant, you're probably better off staying on the trail.... though, honestly, you have no idea what you're missing out on 😍

Same here. I once had some organic bell peppers from a local farmer's market that actually had flavor and weren't just rubbery, tasteless mush 👎! GMOs for the win!!

Honestly
Don't go messing with wild mushrooms unless you actually know what you're doing. And if you're gonna be reckless enough to take the risk, just eat them yourself—don't go poisoning your guests too!

Just so you know, my boyfriend actually wrote this and he isn't making anything up—he really did eat those mushrooms. He brought them home and they were just little button mushrooms. But everything is fine now, he’s okay. He didn't eat enough to actually poison himself. I panicked and rushed him to the ER, but honestly, the doctors in Chicago are terrible. Like, how can they be so dismissive of someone? Everything is fine for now, though. Thanks for the replies.

So, like, how much did he actually end up eating? And honestly, if you're saying he's fine and nothing happened... I don't know, maybe you're just lucky if he was actually eating those kinds of mushrooms...

Maybe 7 small pupae and some big brown ones I couldn't quite identify. I tossed them straight in the trash the second I saw them, so I didn't get a chance to figure out what they were—but based on what he's saying, he probably ate those too. Honestly, the pupae part freaked me out. He ate less than 10 grams total, so I guess he's probably not in any immediate danger.

Hold up a second.
Yesterday this guy was saying he ate 15-20 grams. Now you're claiming it was 10. Okay.
Even if we assume he swapped them out for psilocybin mushrooms, swallowing a dose that large isn't exactly "normal" behavior. Doing that regularly wouldn't be normal either because that is an MASSIVE amount for a trip. I honestly don't get how someone can be this reckless and play games with stuff like this.
And if he actually ate those poisonous ones, get him to the ER right now, because this IS NO JOKE.
Those mushrooms are among the most toxic ones out there!

Yeah, he’s definitely in danger if what you're claiming is actually true.☕

That's some pretty shallow reasoning. If we really are talking about cocoons, the real excitement hasn't even started yet...

Forget the grams, man. Just get to the ER right now!!!! You guys can't be sitting there trying to play doctor and guessing if it was too much or not... If he swallowed even one single cocoon, he could be in serious trouble!!!!

Quick heads-up for anyone else who ends up poisoning themselves—don't just toss those mushrooms in the trash. Get yourselves straight to the ER. It actually makes things way easier for the doctors when they can identify exactly what you ingested to figure out the right antidote. I saw this kid mess up big time thinking he'd found one thing when it was actually something else entirely. If his girlfriend had made that same mistake thinking she grabbed some common field mushrooms when it was actually something lethal... man, it could have been a disaster.

Look, I know what I did was incredibly stupid—total lapse in judgment—but man, if only I had known. People online post these pictures where everything looks white, but when you actually squeeze them, they turn blue. These ones were white with this weird greenish tint right in the middle of the cap. She’s insisting they're just common field mushrooms, but I have a feeling she's dead wrong. For our local varieties here in the States, a moderate dose is usually around 10 grams because the psilocybin content is lower. We've got a baby on the way, too—and honestly, if I end up poisoned, maybe I deserve it—but I figured, hey, let's just wing it, how much harm could it do? I didn't realize I was dealing with a toxic mushroom. Now I'm just sitting here waiting for the reaper to show up. Last week, we had a pipe burst in the apartment and water was leaking everywhere; nobody believed me when I called the plumber. He told me we all could have died from the mold buildup because urbandrifter8 didn't even notice the smell. And now this. I'm 23, so I'd hope the symptoms would hit soon—maybe some swelling in my limbs or intense stomach cramps.

Since it’s been like four or five days since you ate that thing, it probably wasn't just some harmless mistake... I mean, the kid is gonna know exactly what you put in him if he gets sick... Still, if I were you—not that I am—I’d really insist on getting a doctor to take a look... But hey, obviously, it's your call how you want to handle it...

Look, you aren't going to die, and you definitely can't predict when it'll happen.

Next time, don't just stare at some photos online. Actually go out and ask someone who knows what they're doing (we've even got a specific mushroom thread on this forum). You need to know the smell, how the colors shift once you pick them, if the gills under the cap change shade... a single photo is worth basically nothing. It's honestly the dumbest way to go foraging, man. Just be careful next time. 👍
