I suppose it might just be a minor arrhythmia.

Well, whether it’s an arrhythmia or something else, at the end of the day, my health is what matters most to me. Honestly, it was probably better that things ended this way rather than having them force me to show up to work while I was feeling sick. You just can't afford to play games when it comes to your heart.

It’s been six months since I last did my sanitary screening and now it’s time again. Since I always work the morning shift, would it be okay if I just handed my sample over to someone else to drop off for me? Is that going to cause any issues???

I think that should be fine...
I’ve actually sent mine through other people before, since they were working at the same time anyway...

Hey guys, quick question... does anyone actually know about this food handler's permit thing???
So basically, I've got this gig coming up during the busy season from Christmas through New Year's. I'll be working in a shop just stocking shelves—which isn't even really touching food directly since everything is pre-packaged, right? But they're insisting on a food safety certification, and get this, they want *me* to pay for it myself even though I'm just working through a temp agency. Is there a single sane person in this company? 😢Seriously, if any of you have dealt with this before, please let me know what the deal is.

I wasn't entirely sure which subforum this belonged in, so if a relevant thread already exists, I’ll kindly ask the moderators to move this accordingly...

My gynecologist handed me a referral for some blood work and hormone testing...

However, when I arrived at the lab with my paperwork in hand, they informed me they couldn't process it because the referral had to be issued by a primary care physician rather than a specialist.😕
To make matters more complicated, my GP refuses to write the referral, claiming she isn't authorized to order gynecological screenings...

So, where does that leave me?🤷

I didn't encounter any of these bureaucratic hurdles with the exact same request last year...

Well... it really just depends on exactly which tests you need...
Standard stuff like a CBC, differential, urine tests, iron levels, lipid panels, or liver enzymes—you get those through your primary doctor at a local clinic...
But hormone panels are usually handled by hospital labs... so you definitely need that specialist referral...
It’s annoying, honestly, but it varies from one hospital system to another. You don't want to be getting poked multiple times just to get your blood drawn, but... unfortunately, that's how the system works right now.

What happens if a referral was issued back on December 1, 2009, and I used it to schedule an appointment for January 25th? Given that more than 30 days have passed, am I going to be required to bring a brand-new referral to the hospital on the 25th, or does the original one from December 1st still hold water since that was the basis for my scheduling?

Well, as long as we're looking at the period before February 1st, those referrals stay valid for up to 12 months.

Alright, folks...
I’m not exactly an expert on how this entire healthcare system works—since I’m not originally from the States, though I am an American citizen—but I have a question.
So, here’s the situation: I injured my knee (torn ACL) and was treated at the trauma center over on Draskovic. They scheduled me for a follow-up exam two weeks out, and in the meantime, I went ahead and grabbed a red referral slip for a specialist visit.
Now, since I’ve decided I actually want to see Dr. Boyanich at his private practice instead, does he require a referral from Medicare, or can I just walk in and pay out of pocket?
I did find some info online suggesting a referral is only valid for 30 days from the date it's issued... but does that mean it’s strictly limited to one single exam at one specific hospital?

That referral you have is specifically valid for the medical facility listed on it—it should probably mention which hospital you're headed to right there on the paperwork. And just so you know, it’s usually only good for a single visit; if you end up needing a follow-up or another appointment down the road, you'll likely need to get a new referral issued.

I worked at McDonald's three years ago and paid for my own food safety cert... Now, as a small business owner, I have employees who also need certification, so I'm wondering if the law specifies who is responsible for covering those costs. I can't find anything in any of our ridiculous laws...

Bottom line, if you haven't hit that three-month mark, they aren't going to cut you a check for those medical costs.
So, what actually went down? I don't quite follow. Did they promise you one thing and then pull a complete bait-and-switch once you showed up...?

I have a quick question for the group 😁 My health certification expired about five months ago. Since I switched jobs back then, I didn't see any reason to bother renewing it at the time. However, I’m looking at taking on some freelance work as a hostess and promoter now, so I need it again 🙄 Does anyone know what the actual procedure looks like? Has anyone dealt with this recently? Specifically, I'm wondering if I can just go through a renewal process, or am I stuck having to start from scratch with a brand-new certification? 😕

Since the health certificate is tied directly to your full name, you just show up with your old one, get checked out, pay the fee, and you're all set..
For anyone working in food service, you'll need to provide a stool sample...
As for healthcare workers, it’s basically just a skin exam and having them listen to your lungs...
Most employees end up covering the costs themselves, though some employers might reimburse you if they're feeling generous...👍

So, how long does it actually take to get that processed? Like, if I walk into the doctor's office and hand over my sample, what happens next? How much downtime am I looking at before it's ready—and also, what paperwork do I need to have on me if I want to get this done? Is just a driver's license enough, or do I need to bring my Medicare card too? Also, can I actually start working while the health certificate is still being processed? I’m supposed to start my new job pretty soon, so I'm hoping the answer is yes!
