Jessica Cox37 said:I ended up paying a deposit for my medication because they wouldn't release it without a prescription, and I didn't have one on hand. They told me I need to bring the actual prescription in by Wednesday morning—so, basically three business days from now.

What happens if I can't track down that prescription in time? I'm a bit worried about what the fallout might be for me personally, or even for the pharmacy itself.

P.S. Is it possible to get a prescription through the ER? This particular medication needs to be taken for five days, but I remember reading somewhere that the ER usually only handles prescriptions for things lasting up to three days, or something along those lines... 😕

It’s actually pretty straightforward: you'll just have to pay for it out of pocket...

That’s how I always do it. And honestly? I find it hard to believe Wednesday morning is some kind of unbreakable deadline.🤷
I mean, it's just my local neighborhood pharmacy—they actually know who I am...

I already paid. Only thing is, the clerk told me it’s basically a deposit they’ll refund once I bring in the prescription. They took my name and address too.

Could there be an issue if I never show up with the script? Like, would the pharmacy get flagged for handing out meds without one? Or worse... could I end up in hot water myself? 😁

Dennis Bishop4 As it turns out, silverpuma542 mentioned that...
I’ve already gone ahead and paid for it. It was all quite straightforward, though the woman at the desk mentioned that this amount is actually just a deposit, which she'll be happy to credit back to me once I swing by again with my prescription in hand. She also took down my name and address to keep everything on file, which seems perfectly standard for their records.

I was just sitting here thinking about how much paperwork we all deal with in this country, and it got me wondering—could there be any real trouble if I happened to forget my prescription at home? You know how it goes, you're rushing out the door, maybe you're running a bit late for an appointment over in Brooklyn, and suddenly you realize that little slip of paper is still sitting on the kitchen counter. It makes me wonder, would the pharmacy actually get in hot water for handing over medication without seeing the official script first? It seems like such a strict system we have here in the States, and I can only imagine the kind of fines or penalties a local drugstore might face from the regulators if they were caught cutting corners like that. And then, of course, there’s the question of what happens on my end of things—could I end up getting into some sort of legal bind or facing some repercussions myself for trying to grab those meds without the proper documentation? It feels like one of those situations where even a small oversight could turn into a much larger headache than anyone intended. 😁

If you’re planning on heading over there to pick up that prescription, and you're feeling pretty confident that the doctor is actually going to sign off on it, then you really shouldn't run into any snags; however, if things don't go quite as planned, she'll likely just mail the bill straight to your house.

But I already have the bill in hand. I've paid it. Is this just a partial amount or the whole thing? And is there somewhere I can check the official pricing for meds?...

Is it even possible that they won't sell me the medication unless I show them a prescription?

Honestly, why not just have them send over that prescription and call it a day, instead of making such a huge production out of everything...
Just give your doctor a quick ring and they can send the script right over, so there’s really no need to even swing by the office if you're having any trouble getting there...

I get that, but I'm wondering what actually happens if I don't bring the prescription? Like, how much cash am I looking at just to walk away with some medication...

Nothing much... you just pay up. They basically tell you "bye-bye money" if you don't show up with a prescription in hand... that's the whole deal...

Hey there,

I was wondering about something and was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction. 🙂

Do pharmacies still accept those old-school paper prescriptions for private medications now that everything has shifted over to the electronic system?

Here's the deal—I've actually been holding onto a standard paper prescription from last year that I've used before, and I'm just wondering if I need to go back to my doctor to get a fresh one, or if I can still just head down to the pharmacy and use this one as is.

Thanks!

Please verify that your prescription is still valid; if it is, you can proceed with picking it up as usual.

How much do these kinds of prescriptions actually last?? Like, six months?

On this one of mine, they never bothered to write down a date or stamp it—so there isn't even a clear indication of when the doctor actually wrote it up.

Does that mean I can just walk into a pharmacy with this and pick up my meds? Will they actually give them to me? Or am I going to have to go through the hassle of getting a new private prescription...

I was just wondering because now that everything has moved to e-prescriptions, I honestly have no clue if anyone even uses paper ones anymore.

It depends on the specific purpose; if it's for contraception, it remains valid for one year. 🤣
I suggest visiting a local pharmacy to check, and then consulting your doctor if necessary.

Based on simple logic, you wouldn't even be able to receive an e-prescription at a private clinic because they have no connection to your Medicare ID—they can't see it at all, right?

It’s pretty much the same story over at the Brooklyn Community Health Center $58. Their hours seem to be roughly 7 to 10, if I recall correctly, and you're looking at about a week's wait just to get your results back; they did give me the collection cup, though. As for the health permit, it's listed in the federal register $3.50...

I tried searching online, but I haven't had much luck finding any clear answers regarding this referral... 🤷

Could a kind soul please let me know how long this current referral remains valid?
Basically, I need to get some bloodwork done, and while the referral is at the laboratory, I'm just not quite sure
exactly how much time I have to get this completed before it expires...

Look, until now, it was a 15-day wait for blood work and about a month to get specialist referrals. I doubt anything has actually changed.

My doctor just handed me a referral for some IgE and RAST testing. Where's the best place to get this done?

Thanks

I actually did those exact tests with my son at Holy Spirit a few years back. Maybe give them a call and ask.
