Hopping on the Manhattan Bridge subway—where your feet finally start thawing out after a few minutes...
Layering up—but not in that "bulky winter coat" kind of way. I find I’m much warmer if I just throw on an undershirt or a tight microfiber tank top (since they actually hug the skin!) under a slightly thinner layer😁. It works better than bundling up, plus my favorite coats aren't really cut to accommodate a dozen layers of extra gear.
Sliding into some stylish boots paired with double sets of thin, calf-high socks.
And finally... losing my cool entirely.😁

(my own authorization)😉

Good grief, where on earth am I supposed to find hot cocoa with chili in this city?🤔 😁
As for that bit about your feet thawing out on the subway? Depends on you, I suppose—mine certainly don't work that way...😁
The rest makes sense, though.😉

Hey boldeagle3, just grab some chili powder—you know, that red stuff—and toss whatever amount you want into hot cocoa. Stir it up and—boom! Like a lightning bolt. I love doing this because when I mix it up for the kids, it’s totally kid-friendly... super mild, sweet, zero kick. Honestly, even better? Make the cocoa from scratch using Hershey's dark cocoa powder. Way less sugar. Throw in some skim milk and you don't have to worry about the scale moving at all!
I'm dead serious, anything spicy gets your heart racing and all that... you know the drill. It's the only thing that actually kicks your metabolism into gear so you stay lean!😁

For me, sitting down on the Manhattan Bridge subway helps, because if I'm standing, I just lose all sensation from the cold. Screw being elegant!😁

You seriously wouldn't believe it, but if you slather on a good nourishing body milk right after your shower, you actually feel warmer. Try it, I'm telling you from experience!
Don't you start laughing.
🙂

When things get really rough, just think about being stuck on a subway during a heatwave... you know, mid-afternoon when the whole car is packed, the metal frame is scorching, and everyone is just absolutely dripping with sweat...😁

Personally, I find it delicious, though when I whip it up for the kids, I keep it pretty mild since they aren't quite ready for the heat yet. Actually, it’s even better if you make the cocoa from scratch using something like Hershey's dark cocoa powder... less sugar that way. Mix it with some skim milk and you won't have to worry about the scale moving upward!

For me, getting a seat on the Manhattan Bridge subway is a lifesaver... because if I'm standing, I completely lose all sensation from the cold—so much for being elegant!😁

You probably won't believe me, but if you slather on a decent nourishing body milk after your shower, you'll actually feel warmer—trust me, I've tried it!
Don't laugh at me now.

I might give the chili thing a shot, but since I can't handle spice very well 😁 we'll see 😁
And what was that you said about SITTING on the subway? I'm always sitting... there's no way I'm standing if there's a free chair available 😁
At first, I thought you were talking about just stepping onto the train... as if it's somehow warmer inside than outside... please, forget it, the temperature swings just wreck me 😁
That moisturizing after the shower thing does help circulation... I shouldn't laugh 🙂

As for that last part, I can handle the heat way easier than the cold... 😢

I really don't want to clutter the board with yet another thread over this one specific question... but is a sauna actually dangerous for people with asthma?
I was standing outside a spa the other day, and there it was, emblazoned right on the door: 100°C 😲
When the humidity hits a certain level out here in the States, I can barely catch my breath—so how am I supposed to handle that...?
Is the physiological reaction different? Honestly, a sauna sounds like just the thing for my pathetic circulation, but...

Oh, I happened to come across this little link regarding saunas:

Hopefully, it might provide a bit of relief... 😉

Thanks 🙂
Here’s what I managed to dig up:
"Saunas improve blood circulation in the airways, making them an excellent preventive measure against sinus congestion, colds, and the flu. They also help relax the bronchi, which can ease breathing for those suffering from asthma. However, in cases of acute asthma flare-ups, they are not recommended."

God knows if my situation counts as "acute"... 😁
Regardless, I really ought to check in with my doctor first—since I struggle with low blood pressure, and apparently, people with that condition are supposed to consult a professional before trying this stuff...

boldeagle3, seriously though, how are you even surviving this winter madness lately? I was legit thinking yesterday that my body was just gonna quit on me from the shock... it's insane.😲
Be honest, how many layers of thermal leggings are you wearing right now?..😁

How many layers of tights are you wearing? Be honest...😁

Honestly, I don't know how I do it either... today morning was just absolutely ghastly.😢
And I still have to take the Manhattan Bridge subway and then transfer to a bus. Let me tell you, when you step off that subway in the morning, the wind just cuts right through you—left, right, everywhere—it's brutal!
It’s always a total gamble for me. The longer I spend out in this temperature, the more my hands and feet just freeze up and ache from the cold... it gets to the point where I feel like I might actually lose consciousness. If I stayed out at -15 degrees for even half an hour, I’d definitely pass out.
As for the tights, I just wear one pair of tights under some thick socks and boots... and even then, my legs still freeze.😁
I can't really layer up any more than that, otherwise I end up cutting off what little circulation I have left...😬

Why don't you just carry a Yeti tumbler in your bag so you can take a sip whenever you want?
I’m being dead serious here....
🙂
And tomorrow? It's gonna be at least 5 degrees out again.
Total disaster.🙄

An absolute disaster.🙄

For me, it doesn't really seem to travel from my stomach to the rest of my body... 😁 Which is to say, it does absolutely nothing for my criminally poor circulation.
I don't know... 😢

Seriously though, how many layers of flannel are you wearing right now? Be honest...😁

The thing is, people just don't get it—this kind of weather is actually good for us, at least in the short term. 😁
After years of those weirdly mild winters, we’re finally getting a real, legitimate American winter again. 😍

Just to be clear—this is NOT the thread for anyone wanting to wax poetic about the "joys" of a legitimate winter freeze...🙂

it’s freezing... my feet, nose, and ears are practically numb

just needed to vent...

Getting off the Manhattan Bridge subway today... goodness, my face was absolutely stinging from the cold. Just pure, biting frost. :2up:

Have you ever felt that? Because I have, back when I was about ten years old. 😁 And man, I’ve come home crying more times than I can count. I absolutely hated that advice to "run your hands under cold water" instead of warm. If it were up to me, I would have shoved my hands straight into a pot of boiling soup just to feel something else. 😁

I absolutely loathed that advice to "just run your hands under cold water"—it’s never warm water, is it? If it were up to me, I would have just shoved my hands straight into the pot on the stove while lunch was cooking... 😁

I had a similar experience during my childhood whenever my feet got freezing cold.
Once I started getting into sports, things changed—now, whenever I start feeling like I'm "losing touch with reality," 😁 I immediately have to find somewhere to sit down or lie down, and then it usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes to snap out of it.
As for whether it should be cold or warm water... it doesn't really matter to me, since my hands don't seem to register the temperature anyway.😁

My extremities just can't handle this freezing weather😁 I can't even walk outside for more than 15 minutes without ducking into some warm spot to thaw out... but honestly? Even when I get home and crank up the heat in the late afternoon, it feels like ice water is running through my veins. That "deep freeze" feeling from the inside out is the absolute worst.😲
It’s fine while there’s still a bit of sun and I’m not spiraling, but once that nasty fog rolls in and signals an Arctic blast is coming... ugh.😱
If only summer lasted as long as this miserable winter...
Just thinking about how short summer actually is makes me ache.😢

What kind of sun are we even talking about...?

I head into work while it’s still pitch black out... My office has a window, but it just stares directly into the side of another building, so it stays dark regardless...😠 Stupid architect... by the time I finally clock out, it’s already pitch black outside...

So, I only catch a glimpse of the sun on weekends... if I'm feeling incredibly lucky...

That massive orange ball hanging in the foggy sky totally motivated me to get moving today (my daughter insists it’s some different kind of sun, not the "old" one🙂 )... seeing that light still hitting the city... my windows are huge, so I take walks during my breaks, and since I clock out around 5 PM, thank god it’s actually still daylight outside.
I'm trying to soak up every bit of sunlight I can, though I bet it's a struggle for people whose schedules mean they're constantly missing out on it.
Honestly, even with the chill, this winter feels way more optimistic and upbeat than the last one, because hey, "there's always hope."😉 🙂
Sending positive vibes to keep you warm!
