So, what are everyone's thoughts?

The Incredibles feels a bit different from their previous stuff, and honestly, kids might find it a little jarring—it isn't quite Finding Nemo.
There’s definitely humor, sure, but it lacks that specific comedic punch you get in something like Monsters Inc.
Personally, I thought it was brilliant... there are moments where you completely forget you're watching an animation. If this were live-action, people would be raving about the cinematography, the editing, the sound design... perhaps that's the best way to describe The Incredibles, a cartoon that carries the weight of a real film, filled with phenomenal scenes... and it's just incredible how much life they breathe into these animated characters...

Yes, I am one of those people who strictly sticks to Pixar films and considers Dreamworks productions, like Shrek, to be total garbage.

I've been waiting for this one for ages, yet nobody in my circle can even find it on Disney.

Now they're finally hitting our theaters, but through a local Dubbing studio. 👎 I really hope they show at least a few screenings with the original audio. 🙂

Anyway, I have incredibly high expectations for this movie, and I just really hope it doesn't let me down.

Honestly, I guess Pixar is maybe the only one left among the big-name studios actually doing anything worthwhile in America... everything else seems to have gone downhill. That's probably why everyone is scrambling to get their hands on it.

I caught the premiere where they used the dubbed version, and I have to say, the quality was top-notch. Usually, I'm a die-hard fan of the original audio, but this actually surprised me. The voice casting was spot on. Word is, the dubbing for Edna Mode was even praised by Pixar as being one of the best versions worldwide...

There are just some things I can't bring myself to watch dubbed, especially when the whole meaning gets lost in translation. And honestly, I think that applies to most animated movies.

Anyway, I've seen the trailers playing in theaters lately and it sounds okay, but I just know I won't be laughing at the same jokes as I would with the original audio. Heck, I might not laugh at all.

I totally agree with you on the dubbing thing. Like I mentioned before, I much prefer the original, but I was actually surprised by this one. To be honest, the movie isn't anything special to me, but the jokes have been adapted fairly well for an American audience, I guess...

Actually, you misunderstood the part about the Black character. In our version, he’s been changed to a guy from Brooklyn, and he's voiced by Branko Duric. He's definitely one of the better characters...

Finding Nemo was just phenomenally dubbed.

As for Shrek—honestly, the worst part was Mikic, who was basically impossible to understand while he was trying his best to mimic Murphy's rapid-fire delivery.

DUBBED?!? Are they actually out of their minds? This isn't some little Mermaid flick for five-year-olds...

Oh, really, well, damn it all... I suppose this is one of those perks of living outside the States, being able to actually watch animation without the dubbing...

But honestly, I’m just curious, because I’m certain they just grab random voices from a guy in New York, someone from Chicago, maybe a kid from Houston, and a local from Miami... but what about the West Coast people?...

I can't stand watching American animated movies dubbed; the essence just gets lost in translation when you move away from the original voice acting.

Cinestar will be showing the version in its original English audio.
It's just like when they released Shrek and Finding Nemo.

I honestly think our studios should just dub Felix the Cat and have elementary school teachers take kids to see it—it’s a cartoon, after all, so it’s clearly meant for them. 🙄

I actually loved that part where the girl sets up that little field, and then the kid just dives headfirst into it—so cool!

The Incredibles

I was pretty sure a thread for this already existed, but since I couldn't find it on the first three pages—maybe it vanished just like what happened with Return of the King?

I was actually really looking forward to this one; the concept is great and the trailers definitely got me hyped... But then my fear actually came true—the trailers showed way too much.

I’ll try my best not to spoil everything, but I have to lay out a bit of the plot.

The story follows the Parr family—basically Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. Back when they first got married, superheroes were highly respected; they could fly freely, save the world, bust criminals... All the trouble starts when the people they rescue begin suing the superheroes—you know, like a guy who didn't want to be saved and stuff like that. Eventually, the government mandates that heroes hang up their suits and blend in with "ordinary" citizens.

Fast forward 15 years, and we meet the Parrs again. Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl (that's Bob and Helen Parr) are struggling to live a normal life, which isn't easy given their powers—and those of their kids: Violet, Dash, and little Jack Jack. Bob is stuck in a desk job he absolutely hates. Then, one day, an offer comes along to return to his old way of life, and it's something he just can't turn down...

Like I mentioned, the core idea is fantastic—a family with superpowers trying to function like a regular household, even though they're clearly failing at it. The main characters feel a bit formulaic, and the kids are handled somewhat superficially. As for the plot, it's fairly predictable, most of which was telegraphed early on. The pacing is also a bit all over the place—it jumps from these slow, drawn-out sequences to ultra-fast action bursts. I assume that's a directorial choice meant to highlight the contrast between the thrill of being a hero and the monotony of everyday life. Still, it didn't quite click for me.
My other gripe is the villain; he's unconvincing, a lightweight version of your typical superhero antagonist. I am glad they didn't go overboard with the "evil laugh" trope, because that would have been too much. His motivation feels totally thin and shallow, even though the beginning of his character arc showed some promise.

What really saves the movie, though, are two cameos: Edna Mode and that little kid on the tricycle.
Edna Mode is hands down the best character in any superhero movie! Her attitude, her voice, her whole vibe... it's just perfect. I was laughing my head off during her scenes; it's honestly a shame she doesn't have more screen time.
That little kid on the tricycle somehow charmed me too—I can't even put my finger on why—but there's just something about his look and his voice that is gold. Once again, I found myself being "that guy" in the theater because everyone kept glancing at me while I was dying of laughter.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie and worth a watch. It's not going to change the animation industry forever or reinvent the wheel, but it's a solid pick if you're bored on a Friday night and just want some casual entertainment. I'll probably catch it again once it hits streaming, but my advice to you is: don't overthink it, grab some popcorn, and just enjoy the ride...

I was actually planning on heading out tonight, but I ended up pushing it back to Sunday since a friend of mine wants to tag along.

Anyway, I’m not entirely positive, but if I recall correctly, the only subtitled screening is at 10:00 PM.👎

It was scheduled for 7:30 PM yesterday, but looks like they changed things up. I just wish they’d at least provide versions with subtitles 🙂

I don't want us to end up like the Italians—clueless about what Sylvester Stallone or Woody Allen actually sound like because they're forced to listen to some local hack productions.

And don't even get me started on how Arnold Schwarzenegger sounds...

I just walked through my front door after hitting the theater, and honestly, I can’t stop grinning after watching The Incredibles. 👍

I don't think there are even enough words in the English language to describe how good this movie was... actually, maybe there are, I just haven't learned them yet. 😁 (™ Monkey Island 😉 ).

Anyway, I'm going to go sit down and reflect 😂 on the film for a bit and try to stretch out my legs since those seats at Sinister Cinema absolutely killed me... tomorrow morning, I'll probably write up a quick essay on why this is easily the best thing I've seen all year, and also why I absolutely hate Sinister.
