Do you guys actually use them, or do you ever stop to think about how much damage they might be doing...?
I was just scrolling through some articles today about all the crazy chemical changes that happen to food when you reheat it or cook it in a microwave, and honestly, I am totally floored by what I read!

I just spent my afternoon reading up on what happens to food when you microwave it, and honestly, I’m kind of spiraling.

Whoa, hold up. I literally just bought one on Sunday. 😎
Drop the link to whatever you were reading, thanks.

Has there been any actual change regarding the water quality? I guess I only really use it for heating up water for my baby's formula or making tea, but still... 😉

I’ve had my microwave for two decades now, and honestly, nothing bad has happened to me. I use it every single day—reheating leftovers, defrosting meat, boiling water for my morning coffee or tea, popping popcorn, you name it.

The real "issue" isn't about health for me; it's the smell. When you cook stuff in there, all those food odors just hang around, which ends up messing with the flavor of whatever you make next. For instance, if you try to cook a pork chop in the microwave, it ends up having this absolutely revolting taste 🙂 compared to when you throw it on a grill or in a traditional oven.

That’s why I stick to using it strictly for the basics mentioned above.

I just finished reading a few articles today about what happens to food when you reheat it or cook it in a microwave, and honestly, I’m a little shaken up.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid! 🙄 🙄

Any chance you could drop the links to those texts here?

Just throw some salt on the wound, why don't you 🙄 😁
I want it, but my mom won't let me because she’d probably drop dead on the spot if she even drank tea made in a microwave. She'd end up growing a whole extra set of eyes or something.
I'll buy it myself. And look, if I didn't get lung cancer from eighteen years of secondhand smoke, some damn microwave isn't going to kill me.

Honestly, I’ve been using mine for years just to warm things up rather than actually cooking, so I never really gave much thought to what eating heated food might do to us! But then, after getting into a debate online, I did a little deep dive on Google and man, I was totally horrified by what I found. My kids drink so much milk every day—like, almost a quart, and my oldest even drinks more—and we always just zap it in the microwave to get it warm. Honestly, I think they might just move out!

Here is the quick rundown:
Category I, Cancer-Causing Effects
Category II, Destruction of Foods
Category III, Biological Effects of Exposure

Microwaving prepared meats sufficiently to insure sanitary ingestion caused formation of d-Nitrosodienthanolamines, a well-known carcinogen.
Microwaving milk and cereal grains converted some of their amino acids into carcinogens.
Thawing frozen fruits converted their glucoside and galactoside containing fractions into carcinogenic substances.
Extremely short exposure of raw, cooked or frozen vegetables converted their plant alkaloids into carcinogens.
Carcinogenic free radicals were formed in microwaved plants, especially root vegetables.
Decrease in nutritional value
US researchers also reported a marked acceleration of structural degradation leading to a decreased food value of 60 to 90% in all foods tested. Among the changes observed were:
Deceased bio-availability of vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotropics factors in all food tested.
Various kinds of damaged to many plant substances, such as alkaloids, glucosides, galactosides and nitrilosides.
The degradation of nucleo-proteins in meats.

And here are a few links for you guys

After spending some time today digging through several articles about the chemical changes that occur in food when you reheat or cook it in a microwave, I am honestly left in shock.

I own one, but it just sits there now—a little monument to technological progress. 👎 That machine is anything but safe for our health. Food prepared in that 🙂, much like what this emoji suggests, is 🙂

I’m totally with you on that. The thing about microwaves is they basically just vibrate water molecules and nothing else—like, if you toss a piece of solid iron in there, it stays ice cold. The real headache is how everything gets heated up way too fast and ends up super uneven.

And honestly, one thing that drives me absolutely nuts is the logic people use. Everyone acts like their smartphone is some kind of death ray, when in reality, those things usually emit radiation that's like 5,000 times weaker than what a microwave puts out. Plus, microwaves operate on much nastier frequencies... When you actually crunch the numbers, the amount of radiation you soak up from your phone is roughly the same as what you get from a toaster oven. Yet, I haven't met a single person who refuses to use a microwave because they're worried about the radiation...

I love mine and I’m sticking with it, even if I sprout wings or grow fins—honestly, it won't even matter much anymore 😁
It absolutely terrifies me, just sitting there for hours in gridlock while all those engines idle, pumping out diesel, heating oil, kerosene, used motor oil, you name it... I feel like that’s what’ll finally kill me, stuck in constant stop-and-go city traffic, which is basically 🙂

I honestly don't get how people can be this dense. With the entire internet and Google right at their fingertips these days... what are they even doing?

Nobody’s ever died from using a microwave, but if stupidity was fatal, some folks around here would be long gone...

Personally, it kills me standing there for hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic with all those engines idling away, pumping out diesel, heating oil, kerosene, used motor oil, you name it... I swear that’s what’s going to take me out first since I’m stuck in stop-and-go city driving all day, which is basically 🙂

I'm right there with you. That stench is enough to actually kill me. Thank God I don't live in Washington, D.C. (even though I have to commute there every single day). If I actually lived in the heart of D.C., I’d be suffocating within a week...

Man, the absolute worst was back in the day right after the old regime collapsed. People were so broke back then that everyone was driving these absolute junkers that seemed to burn more oil than actual gasoline...

Nobody’s ever actually dropped dead from a microwave, but if stupidity were fatal, I’m pretty sure half the people on this thread would be pushing up daisies by now.

Even with something like the flu, nobody actually dies from it—it's always some random, everyday cold that finally gets you.

So, about microwaves

I have a quick question for anyone who uses one every day—whether you're actually cooking or just reheating leftovers. Do you deal with any digestion issues? You know, the usual bloating, gas...
Also, how’s your focus been? Any issues with weight gain?
I'm wondering if all this stuff people say about microwaves being harmful is actually true.
If anyone feels like running a little experiment:
Boil some water on an electric stove and heat some in the microwave. Let them both cool down, then use them to water two different plants. Use the microwave water for one and the stove water for the other. You'll see the difference pretty quickly.

Bloating and digestion aren't even an issue for me—that's just down to what I eat, not whether it was microwaved or not

Could probably drop a few pounds... working on it, and I'm starting to see some progress
But I didn't pack on the weight from eating microwave meals 🙄 it was all the chips and other junk food

I’d do it, but I can't—my man would actually kill me. He absolutely dotes on his plants, so if I touched them... yeah, not happening.😁
Besides, I’m already halfway to being a zombie. A little more radiation isn't going to do much more damage than everything else I deal with daily, and there's nothing I can do about that anyway.

A microwave isn't going to kill you, sure, but cancer certainly can... and it took my father.

One really shouldn't play around when it comes to carcinogens.

don't mess with carcinogens...

shouldn't mess with stupidity either
but you still go ahead and do it anyway
(i got my own theory on how carcinomas start, but i guess it's EASIER for YOU to just blame stuff like microwaves)

if you actually listen to the radio, just quit now because it's the SAME radiation coming off a microwave (at least in terms of how much it sucks)
