I don't know, man... it doesn't really hit that same Dntel vibe for me. It’s got a tiny bit of Postal Service or maybe even Phoenix in there, but honestly? It feels way more forgettable than both of them.

Album of the week: The Lemonheads - Come On Feel the Lemonheads
Never actually sat down with this one before, but since I'm obsessed with Creator and Button Cloth, I figured it was time to stop playing catch-up. Just finished my first full listen and—wow—it's already growing on me big time.

Song of the week: Mission of Burma - Academy Fight Song
Up until now, I’d only ever heard this track via the R.E.M. cover, but if the rest of their catalog holds up this well, Mission of Burma just gained a massive new fan.

This is easily my favorite track by Mazzy Star. There is a certain soothing, sensual quality to it that just settles over you.

It’s been such a wild, traumatic stretch—my record player actually caught some kind of "illness" and then, out of nowhere, just healed itself. Like, magic!
And man, things have been moving so fast lately—I've picked up some awesome new finds and finally let go of some old stuff, like Teach Me Peaches 🙂.

Last week was basically just me looping the new Nick Cave stuff (Abattoir/Lyre...) and the new Cohen (Dear Heather) on repeat—weirdly enough.
Honestly, I’m not even a big Nick Cave fan (which, yeah, I know, sounds criminal and totally unexplainable)—so I probably wouldn't have even given this new stuff a shot if it hadn't just landed on my hard drive. But man, it blew me away. Maybe it’s finally time for a "Nick Cave Revisited" phase—go through my collection, listen to everything I own, and actually buy all the albums I've been ignoring until now?
As for Cohen, I love him, but Dear Heather feels a little tedious. I've spun it maybe three or four times already, which is a lot for one week considering I'm barely ever home—and when I am, I'm basically fighting my family for control of the player while they're busy watching Cartoon Network or whatever.

That was exactly my experience too. It's a really solid album, though I haven't quite found the motivation to dive into their older discography yet.

Mellow Drunk - Before and after Then is a solid record, full of blunt lyrics and these smooth, elegant hooks that just stick with you. It actually made me think of The Auteurs—though they don't quite hit those same lyrical notes despite having killer, sophisticated hooks—and because of that connection, their track Sick of Hare Krishna felt like a total win.

Weekly Longplay: Bringing It All Back Home, a revisit to Bob Dylan—because, honestly, one owes Bob a certain level of respect, even if we ignore decades of mutual antipathy and strained relations which, looking back through a lens of absolute euphoria, seem a bit sudden. This isn't just an album of the week; this is the album of a lifetime and the entire animal kingdom!
And what is one supposed to listen to after such a thing?
Ah! I know! Elvis Costello revisited—weekly longplay number two—My Aim Is True. God, it’s good. Seriously, why wasn't there some sort of medal, a military pension, or at least a title of Lifetime Honorary President of the local neighborhood association awarded when he first arrived? And to think, it's just a country album! Played with such economy, yet brimming with soul and elegance.
Track of the week: for the seventeenth week running, Hank Williams' You Win Again.
Track of the week number two: You Shook Me All Night Long, this time revisited and revised by Hayseed Dixie. In my estimation, it's the only track that actually works on that album. Even Cowboy Rajk could sing it.
Track of the week number three: Baby I'M-a Want You by Bread. This feels more like an atavism compared to last week, when my collection of the aforementioned band's greatest hits was a hit. If you don't know this group, you're missing out. This is the kind of music they play when you arrive in paradise.
Meal of the week: a McDonald's MacTasty large meal. Sometimes, one simply must indulge in a bit of decadence.
Drink of the week: Strawberry, give me cherry juice. Pear, give me carrot juice.
Transport of the week: public transit.
Garment of the week: cashmere.
Recurring theme of the week: Christmas, New Year's Day...
Tech gadget of the week: a pocket calculator.
