Basquiat said:Top Gun is actually one of Quentin Tarantino's favorite movies
I remember watching this film on TV Guide a few years back—I honestly can't recall the title, though I'm fairly certain Eric Stolz was in it... it was about a group of young aspiring actors navigating life in Hollywood
then, completely out of nowhere, Tarantino pops up in a cameo role and starts breaking down the film in his signature style, arguing that the true underlying theme of Top Gun is actually the repressed homosexuality within the US military
he points to the ending where the Americans beat the Russians, and then Iceman gives Maverick a huge hug and says, "you can always be my wingman"🙂

To which the macho Tom Cruise responds: "Bullshit, You can be MINE!"

😂

Tarantino would really have a lot to say about topics like this... 😁

I’m honestly starting to question my own sexuality here... 😲

And then there's point number three—The Karate Kid—which leads us straight to 😂

Top Gun is one of those movies Quentin Tarantino loves
A few years back, I was watching some flick on TV Guide—can't remember the title, pretty sure Eric Stolz is in it—it’s about these young actors in Hollywood
And suddenly, right in the middle of the movie, Tarantino pops up in a cameo and starts explaining, in his usual style, what the actual core theme of Top Gun is: hidden homosexuality in the US military
The proof is in the ending, when the Americans beat the Russians, and Iceman hugs Maverick and says all happy, "you can always be my wingman"

😁

The movie is 'Sleep with me' and the clip goes like this (Sid is played by Tarantino):

Sid: You want subversion on a massive level. You know what one of the greatest fucking scripts ever written in the history of Hollywood is? Top Gun.
Duane: Oh, come on.
Sid: Top Gun is fucking great. What is Top Gun? You think it's a story about a bunch of fighter pilots.
Duane: It's about a bunch of guys waving their dicks around.
Sid: It is a story about a man's struggle with his own homosexuality. It is! That is what Top Gun is about, man. You've got Maverick, all right? He's on the edge, man. He's right on the fucking line, all right? And you've got Iceman, and all his crew. They're gay, they represent the gay man, all right? And they're saying, go, go the gay way, go the gay way. He could go both ways.
Duane: What about Kelly McGillis?
Sid: Kelly McGillis, she's heterosexuality. She's saying: no, no, no, no, no, no, go the normal way, play by the rules, go the normal way. They're saying no, go the gay way, be the gay way, go for the gay way, all right? That is what's going on throughout that whole movie... He goes to her house, all right? It looks like they're going to have sex, you know, they're just kind of sitting back, he's takin' a shower and everything. They don't have sex. He gets on the motorcycle, drives away. She's like, "What the fuck, what the fuck is going on here?" Next scene, next scene you see her, she's in the elevator, she is dressed like a guy. She's got the cap on, she's got the aviator glasses, she's wearing the same jacket that the Iceman wears. She is, okay, this is how I gotta get this guy, this guy's going towards the gay way, I gotta bring him back, I gotta bring him back from the gay way, so I'll do that through subterfuge, I'm gonna dress like a man. All right? That is how she approaches it. Okay, now let me just ask you - I'm gonna digress for two seconds here. I met this girl Amy here, she's like floating around here and everything. Now, she just got divorced, right? All right, but the REAL ending of the movie is when they fight the MIGs at the end, all right? Because he has passed over into the gay way. They are this gay fighting fucking force, all right? And they're beating the Russians, the gays are beating the Russians. And it's over, and they fucking land, and Iceman's been trying to get Maverick the entire time, and finally, he's got him, all right? And what is the last fucking line that they have together? They're all hugging and k and happy with each other, and Ice comes up to Maverick, and he says, "Man, you can ride my tail, anytime!" And what does Maverick say? "You can ride mine!" Swordfight! Swordfight! Fuckin' A, man!

The soundtrack is everything. It’s the perfect example of how incredible production can take basically anything and turn it into something you can listen to & listen to & listen to... Honestly, I actually picked up the record (that vinyl version) way back in the late eighties... Just my luck...

I was wondering if anyone happens to have a copy of Top Gun on VHS or perhaps on disc? If you do, please do reach out to me😁 I am more than happy to pay for it, or I would be just as eager to trade it for something else in my collection

You don't even close your eyes when I kiss you anymore.
And your touch just doesn't feel the same.
You're trying to hide it, (baby).
But baby, baby, I can tell...

Man, remind me again—I used to have this on VHS at home. Such a cool movie, too bad it's gone forever.

I’d bet money Tom Cruise wouldn't even be able to see out of an F-14 Tomcat.

You'd probably need to stuff some pillows under your seat just to see over the dash.🤣

And she’s rocking those sneakers with the ten-inch soles just so she can actually reach the pedals. 😁

I have such an affinity for Top Gun, even if it feels a bit played out; isn't there just something timeless about it that makes me want to eventually pick up a copy on Netflix just to have it for my personal collection? 😁
