Best movies about music?

Anyone know any good movies centered around music? Looking for stuff about punk, metal, rock, or other subcultures.

The only ones I can think of are Generation X about the skinheads and that one movie about The Doors.

Check out Detroit Rock City.
It follows three teenage punks making their way to a KISS concert.

If you’re more into the heavy metal crowd, though, you really can't go wrong with Wayne's World 1 or 2.

And if you want something about skinheads, there's Romper Stomper.

Oh, they definitely exist.

"This Is Spinal Tap" — honestly the greatest cult classic ever made, just perfect at poking fun at heavy metal culture.

"Fear of the Black Hat" — a hilarious jab at the whole hip-hop scene.

"Hour Party People" — this one tracks everything from punk to acid house, capturing that legendary music scene vibe with bands like Joy Division, Mondaysi, and New Order.

And now, all of a sudden, I find myself thinking about Pink Floyd’s The Wall.

This Is Spinal Tap is a legend, sure... but for me, Crowe’s Almost Famous takes the top spot. That movie is basically a love letter to rock and roll and the whole culture surrounding it. And honestly, even those singles aren't that far off from rock—you've still got Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden in the mix... it's a bit more pop, but close enough.

Oh man, how could I have completely blanked on "Almost..."? I think I've probably watched that one at least five times now.

Check your local video rental shop... Mary... back in the day... there was something about some rock band... Milan from R.E.M. did the soundtrack for a movie...
...anyway, the movie is garbage... but if you don't care about those rock clichés, maybe you'll find something at Moviehouse.

There's some movie out there on the global market—I can't remember the title—about that Sid guy from the Sex Pistols (I think it's even named after him)... I saw it about 853 years ago, and through the fog of memory, it seems like some total trashy nonsense...

Honestly, you wouldn't be harmed by watching Forman's Amadeus.

I actually have a copy right here in Chicago.

I’d love to dive back into the classics—specifically Forman's "Amadeus" and that one movie "Farinelli," though I can't quite recall who directed it at the moment.

The first one is an absolute masterpiece where Antonio Salieri recounts the life of Mozart, while the second focuses on the legendary castrato Farinelli, along with some Handel and all those messy political intrigues from the Baroque era.

Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted...

There are hardly any scripted biopics out there, let alone the good ones! You’ve got Walk The Line, The Doors, Sid and Nancy... but I’m drawing a blank on others. My brain is just empty right now! There are plenty of great documentaries, though—like Scorsese's Blues 1-8 and No Direction Home, plus Don't Look Back, Great R'N'R Swindle, End of The Century, and Last Great American... And then you have those non-biographical flicks, too, like Crossroads, Almost Famous, Tommy, or Wall...
