X-Men 2 (2003)

It’s not bad, I caught it yesterday... just a solid, decent action flick, honestly better than the first one.

Just walked out of the theater and I have to say, the movie was excellent. I’m never hard to please when it comes to Fantastic Four because I love them, but this one was incredible. Especially that Wolverine scene 👍 👍 👍
I could watch this thing all day and night 😁 😁 😁

Does anyone know if a trilogy is in the works? Everything about this feels like it's leading there.

Back then, all the actors from the first film had already signed on for at least two sequels.
A third installment featuring Pyre and Phoenix as villains is practically guaranteed. ^^

By the way, Wolverine is absolutely incredible. My favorite part has to be when they visit Iceman's parents... "Art Professor, have you considered just not being a mutant and dropping your knives?" It's sick.

I honestly love how well they adapted the comic. It could easily spiral into total nonsense with six different subplots touching on ridiculous stuff like cosmic forces... Plus, the irony aimed at superheroes is just brilliant.
If you enjoyed the first one, you have to watch this...

Wow, I honestly don't know what you all were expecting from the sequel, but for me, it was a massive letdown...

I watched the first one a while back and just remember it being way better than I anticipated, but this second one is genuinely bad.

The first hour is somewhat tolerable, but after that, everything just falls apart. By the end, the whole movie is bursting at the seams—kind of like that dam in the film! (haha, I could probably sell that line to a serious critic 🙂)

Anyway, a seriously HUGE disappointment...

I don't get it; I had the exact opposite experience. For me, the only downside was the headache 🙂

Personally, I thought this was a solid action flick with a decent plot. Plus, isn't it great how the villains are basically the US government? Feels pretty relevant right now 😁

In my opinion, the sequel actually outshines the original, though I felt the final 45 minutes became a bit diluted and dragged on too long.

If nothing else, he's worth a watch just for Wolverine

So, I finally sat down to watch X-Men today. I actually caught X-Men earlier, and honestly, I have to say the cast really nailed their roles. The sequel feels solid too; it holds its own perfectly fine, even if I think they could have spent just a little more time fleshing out Wolverine's backstory...

I honestly thought the movie was so good! I just finished watching it, and my roommate and I were both so caught up in the vibe that we actually ended up playing X-Men on our way home... 😁

That was us right after The Matrix. Thank God it was actually good. 😁

It was pretty dark for us too, so we ended up wandering down the most secluded backstreets we could find just to make sure nobody would spot us... 😁

Watched it yesterday—honestly, it was great. There were at least three standout scenes, and the suspense actually kept me on the edge of my seat, which is a rare feat for action movies these days.

I felt genuinely immersed in the movie, even if the flaws nearly outweigh the merits: the opening and the initial setup are far too long, chaotic, and just plain muddled. Then, by the end, they seem to insist on having at least five different endings, each one desperately trying to be the most spectacular, which ends up being grating because of how much they drag things out. Personally, I would have wrapped the whole thing up right when the kid turned pale facing Stryker.

It’s the classic trap these films fall into—trying to cram way too much into a two-hour runtime. It’s an impossible task when you have all these characters that need equal screen time, so the scenes jump around every single minute, making it exhausting to follow. There are moments that could have been incredibly impressive, but they get ruthlessly cut short just to pivot to the next potentially spectacular sequence.

I do appreciate seeing a return to a more serious tone in superhero movies; I haven't seen anything quite like it since Batman...

A buddy and I are thinking about catching it this Monday. It seems like half of you guys are trashing it while the other half is treating it like the second coming.
Now I’m on the fence. 😢 I’ll just take the Joker’s word for it and see what the crowd thinks. 😉

If you saw the first one and enjoyed it, then go for it. You can always grab a copy from the local video rental store to catch up before heading to the theater.
But if superheroes and that whole genre aren't your thing, then just skip it.

Look, I never claimed this was the greatest movie ever made. This film only works if you actually like superheroes—basically, if you’re an X-Men fan. Or if you can relate to the theme of being an outcast. Something like that.
There are plenty of people who think this movie is garbage, and unlike those Matrix fanatics 😉, that doesn't bother me at all. They’re entitled to their opinion. I’m not expecting X-Men to sweep the Oscars, not even for the special effects. There are much better visual effects in other movies out there.
The fact that I prefer X-Men over The Matrix is just my personal take. Hell, I think X-Men is way better than most action or sci-fi flicks. But I'm biased. And I’d never tell a The Matrix fan, "Go watch X-Men, The Matrix sucks." That's their business, their choice.

In my own estimation, following Superman and Batman and Batman Returns, X-Men stands as the premier superhero film.

X2 follows closely behind, though it strikes me as being even more engaged and ambitious in its scope.

Both installments belong to the same caliber; I find all the heroes compelling and thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere they cultivate. This is an indisputable fact: X-Men and X2 are spectacular action movies which, despite having certain flaws, none of which are fatal, possess far more merit than most modern sci-fi action films...

For me, the absolute best thing about the first movie was how Singer actually treated the source material with some genuine respect—it felt like a real drama about prejudice rather than being goofy and campy like Schumacher was with "Batman and Robin." You didn't have Wolverine constantly breaking the fourth wall or giving us that little wink like he was asking, 'how can you possibly take this seriously?' I feel like if you're going to set the bar that high, you should at least try to clear it, and unfortunately, Singer just didn't quite manage that. To my mind, there wasn't enough emotional weight in the story to really live up to such an ambitious foundation, but even so, I don't regret sitting through it one bit.

Since redowl90 wasn't really feeling it, I’m definitely going to... 😁 I think I'll head to the theater tomorrow...

I watched the movie yesterday and wow! Simply incredible. Between the action, the special effects, and just general coolness, it was fantastic...

Deathstrike was easily the coolest part of the film: the woman doesn't say a single word. Right before the fight starts, Wolverine is looking over some blueprints in the lab when Captain America leans toward me and asks, "Uh, am I missing something? Why didn't they think to move those plans in all these fifteen years?" To which I replied, "Doode, haven't you realized yet? THEY ALREADY CHANGED THE PLANS." And then she shows up, claws sliding out from her fingers, and Wolverine can only mutter, "Oh, shit."
AMAZING!

Tifling—that teleporting acrobat—was fun to watch, and Halle Berry was great, but nothing quite tops Deathstrike.

My favorite parts were the subtle touches, like when Mystique talks to that teleporting guy who tells her:
"Look, if you can look like anyone else, why do you choose to look like this?"
"Because I'm not ashamed of who I am."

Oh, and having Rebecca Romijn - Stamos play a mutant who disguises herself as Rebecca Romijn - Stamos was definitely very Escherovski...

It was an excellent movie that I'll likely watch again with a group... A friend is actually annoyed because we didn't invite her, and frankly, I feel a little embarrassed about wanting to see it again. 😁
