What's your favorite?

I was listening to a cover of that old Blondie track, "The Tide Is High," the other day. It was done by that trio called Atomic Kitten. The song is catchy enough, but honestly, compared to Debbie, they just don't hit the same level.

Every once in a while, a cover actually works—maybe even manages to outshine the original. Take David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" and how Nirvana tackled it. That one was spot on.

Maybe I was thinking along the lines of Christina Aguilera back then too. 😕

Does anyone remember the name of that Joy Division track? You know, the one where he sings "...walk...in silence....don't walk away...in silence..." Man, that song was my absolute anthem back in my teenage years! I can't for the life of me remember the title—I used to listen to it constantly on an old burnt CD I made, and I actually ended up cracking the disc because I played it so many damn times... but then Spotify randomly brought it back to me today.

Personally, I think "Because the Night" hits different when Natalie Merchant sings it... plus, she actually nails "Major Tom" better than David Bowie did...

I honestly feel like the performance of "Because the Night" is quite excellent. I'm not entirely sure why it seems to bother everyone so much; I certainly don't mean to disparage anyone's preferences, but perhaps some tastes are just a bit questionable

Man, thanks!!!! I seriously never knew any of the song titles on that cassette. It just had "Joy Division" printed on it, and even that faded away over the years....

Anyway, Patti Smith did this thing with R.E.M. on E-Bow, and then R.E.M. put out that song "Shiny Happy People" featuring Kate Pierson, which I was totally obsessed with back in the day. Then she went and sang "Candy" with Iggy Pop. Iggy worked on some stuff for David Bowie, who sang with Crosby—the guy who sang "White Christmas," which Crven Jabuka covered. New York City is called the Big Apple, and there's a band called Rapid living in another state. It’s a full circle.😁
