Is it possible to change my old username?

The one with the lowercase "m" was actually my very first profile, though it's been sitting there completely dormant for about ten years now.

That isn't an option; just pick a different username. If the system won't let you, it means that specific handle doesn't exist or there is one nearly identical to it, making the distinction far too subtle.
