So, when are you guys actually going to change my nickname??? It’s been two months already. Since it was approved, that is.

Did you ever get a hold of New Orleans? If you did, maybe just reach back out to her again.

Can someone get rid of the exclamation point in my username?
Thanks! 🙂

Sure thing, just reach out to New Orleans. 🙂

Maybe we could just add a ® next to Nick's name at the end, then grab a beer and talk about it

No way.

Is that possible, Joseph Roberts5? 😁

We generally prefer usernames to start with a capital letter, so I suppose changes like this might be okay, though it isn't really our standard practice. 🙂

Can Eric Bailey28 (with a capital letter and no numbers!)? 🙂

There's a user registered on the forum under the name eric bailey28.
From what I can see, they signed up six years ago (June 27, 2010), don't have an avatar, and haven't been active since the day after they joined (June 28, 2010). They also have zero posts.
I'm guessing they aren't planning on using that handle anymore... 🤔
So... 🕺

Thanks! 👋

Sure, just reach out to New Orleans.

Is switching to wiredotter89, Guaser, or Gaster too much of a leap?

It’s really not that big of a deal. Just pick one and let New Orleans know.

Keep calm and use Reddit

Look, you can say whatever you want and give your reasons, but honestly? It's just plain stupid when people act like they aren't even asking anything at all.

I happened to see this request and just couldn't help myself—I had to jump in.

darkseal9 is basically an icon here at MK; they've been a part of this community for over 13 years.
If usernames are allowed to have random symbols like #$%& or even those double dashes (**--), then surely we can accommodate such a tiny, simple request. It’s not like some newcomer who joined in 2016 and has only three posts under their belt.

Please, be reasonable. 🙂
Thanks in advance.

Don't be mad, darkseal9!

Well, not always, and certainly not for everyone. You're a unique case here—you've been hanging out on this forum way longer than some of the actual moderators.
That being said, I totally get where the request is coming from, and honestly, it would be a really nice gesture if the team here could just make it happen.
Sorry, darkseal9, but I can't really argue with you when you're making such a valid point about needing that change.

I wasn't really going out of my way to explain why it can't be done, mostly because I feel like there’s just no point in me writing out a whole manifesto every single time someone asks for 'special characters' in a request. Everything is already laid out clearly in the first post.
Plus, honestly, nobody gets those kinds of changes approved—not since I’ve been doing this job, anyway, though I can't speak for whoever was running things before me—specifically when users start asking for **/ and all that other stuff you listed, so I’d really appreciate it if you didn't spread misinformation for no reason.
At the end of the day, how long you've been hanging around the forums isn't some kind of golden ticket that guarantees anyone's request for a correction is actually going to get the green light.

My previous username ended with this weird little suffix: -zd.
I actually reached out to support asking them to just strip it off, but they couldn't because that specific handle was already taken—so I suggested just adding an underscore to the end instead, and they went along with it.
In fact, jezebel changed over to *jezebel* on that very same day. It would be easy enough for me to prove it, but honestly, what's the point? At the end of the day, it's all about good intentions.
I’m really not one to go around spreading misinformation.

jezebel's username was changed back in 2007.
The guidelines northernpilot2 follows belong to the owner and date back to 2007. This isn't about anyone in administration following a trend or lacking goodwill. Everything mentioned in the introductory post regarding username formatting reflects the owner's specific wishes. You should reach out to him directly...

So,
you actually went ahead and filed that application for a promotion? You aren't some entitled brat, and look at how nicely they walked you through everything.
But me? They just sent back two words: "No thanks."
Seriously, you guys are pathetic.

Look, if you were too lazy to actually open up and read the very first post in this thread—even though the title basically screams at you to do exactly that—then I honestly don't see much point in me sitting here trying to give you some long-winded explanation as to why we can't approve a nickname change that asks for special characters.
Basically, most people just wander in here without glancing at the opening post, and then they act all surprised when things don't work their way or when they realize they're breaking the rules. It's kind of a pattern, I guess.

Anyway, Lay's already gave her take on this, so we're wrapping up this whole debate about your handle right now. If you ever decide to submit a request for a correction that actually follows the owner's rules laid out in that first post, then feel free to reach out.

Come on, man, show some solidarity... help a guy out through the grapevine. It’s not like emphasizing a letter isn't just standard formatting, right? So in the first post... yeah... 👍

Can I change my handle to shadow?
There’s already someone using that nickname, but they registered back in 2002 and only have about 34 posts... 🕺
