Look, you've got a point there. But I don't know, I just lost my damn mind over that ending. It just didn't sit right with me, so screw it😢. The whole movie was incredible right up until that final stretch. It’s not like I have a problem with happy endings in general, but this? This just wasn't how it should have gone down...

The beauty of it, though, is that you can interpret the finale however you want. Personally, I saw it more as a happy ending than a tragic one. Sure, he's stuck in a terrible situation, but at least his mind is at peace while he experiences this "new life"...

I can't believe I actually sat through that whole thing just to get blindsided like this... seriously? My head is still spinning from that ending. I knew things were heading in a weird direction, but nothing could have prepared me for that twist. It feels like such a massive gut punch after all the buildup... everything we thought we knew about the protagonist was just a lie. Now I’m sitting here staring at the screen wondering what even the point was. I need a drink... and maybe a nap to process how much my brain just melted...

That’s exactly what I mean—the beauty of it is that you can interpret the ending however you want. For me? It felt more like a happy ending than a tragic one. Yeah, sure, he's technically screwed and facing the consequences, but at least his head is in a good place. He’s actually finding some peace in his "new life"... so maybe it isn't such a bad thing after all...

I mean, you could definitely look at it that way. SPOILER: When you step back and look at the big picture, the lead guy basically took out a massive loan from a whole bunch of people, effectively destroying their lives in the process. He’s not exactly some shining hero, so it was always bound to blow up in his face eventually... My only real gripe is that the main guy didn't get the ending he actually deserved, and honestly, neither did the Black actor. Sure, their projects were huge leaps forward for humanity, but they still relied on those shady, manipulative tactics and ended up with a bloody debt collection at the end of the day. In short? It was straight-up criminal. Because of that, that beach scene where everything finally hits the fan would have felt much more fitting, but hey, it is what it is...

Ugh... the movie is just straight-up weird! Unconventional? Yeah, that’s an understatement. The characters are bizarre, the vibe is off, and the whole moral compass of the world is just... skewed. Honestly—at certain points—I could actually see something like this happening in the near future! 🙂 So yeah, I don't know. It’s interesting, I'll give it that. All those scenes you guys might find "unreal"... in that specific universe, they feel totally plausible to me. That’s the trippiest part about it—once you buy into the logic of that system, it works, even if it makes zero sense in the real world. Basically, it left a great impression. Some funny moments too (the action hero bit, lol), and the soundtrack is killer—it kind of hits and misses, but it definitely helps you get into that headspace. It's clearly the director's first big outing, so he’s still got some growing to do... but the guy could definitely make some cool stuff down the road. 🙂

it’s definitely bloodier than your typical horror flick or slasher, but the way they mix in that dark humor makes it actually engaging
honestly, it nails the whole vibe—it knows exactly what kind of job it's doing and pulls the rug out from under you in such an ironic way
and that ending? pure chaos. I was just stunned for a few seconds before I started cracking up

I just caught this on HBO since it recently started streaming, and I figured I’d chime in for anyone else who might be diving into it for the first time right about now. 🙂

Look, even if you consider the core concept stolen, I think it was an idea worth lifting—especially with how they handled the execution. Instead of leaning into the campy, trashy opera vibes of the original material, they went for this heavy-hitting blend of high-octane action and deep, contemplative storytelling.

That being said, just like most people here have been saying, the final product didn't quite hit the heights it could have. It’s a bummer, really. It had the potential to be the next Blade Runner or maybe even something like Minority Report, given all the comparisons people have been making.

As for that "it was all just a dream" type of ending (in this case, basically the last third of the movie), there's a slim chance it works as a metaphor for how tearing down a ruthless corporate empire through one suicidal act is nothing more than an impossible dream. But honestly? It’s still one of the most frustrating tropes to encounter at the end of a movie. In my book, it's easily one of the clumsiest ways to wrap things up.

There are plenty of other misses, but I want to wrap this up by highlighting two things that actually worked:

- Forest Whitaker is hands down one of the most emotive actors out there. Casting him as this cold, heartless "enforcer" was a brilliant move that adds so much layers to his character. You see those moments where his face—which usually carries such a natural, raw intensity—goes totally stone-cold. It’s fascinating, and arguably some of the most disciplined acting he's ever done. 😛

- The setting is this "near future," a sort of dystopian reflection of our own world. But instead of falling into the trap of trying to invent some weird, futuristic synth music, the filmmakers filled the soundtrack with cool tracks that aren't even contemporary, but pulled from the recent past. 😍 I won't list every single track, but if you've seen it, you know the selection is absolutely perfect for creating that dreamy, surreal atmosphere.

Man, what an absolute train wreck. Honestly, this movie was such a massive disappointment that I couldn't even make it to the credits.
It was just painfully boring—I was basically dying of boredom here, and after struggling through an hour of pure nonsense, I finally just gave up and turned it off. I don't think I've seen such a total waste of time in ages, especially considering they actually had some big-name stars attached to it.

The movie isn't exactly a masterpiece, but I wouldn't call it a total disaster either... the concept itself is solid, though the execution definitely could have been sharper... honestly, though, that ending? Absolute mindfuck.
