IP address, weird report?

Something feels a bit off here. I decided to head over to whatismyIP to check my connection, and this is what popped up on my screen:
My Public IPv4 is: 93.140.232.180
My Public IPv6 is: Not Detected
My IP Location is: Malibu, 17 US
My ISP is: AT&T

I’m a little perplexed—why isn't it showing an Internet Protocol address? Furthermore, it claims my location is Malibu, yet I am actually sitting right here in San Francisco
. I must admit, I find this quite confusing

That’s all good, I actually went ahead and disabled the Internet Protocol in my settings too, just to be safe. 186 miles maybe try setting the location a bit 😁 further north

That’s just how things work here in the States. Since our infrastructure relies on just a handful of major backbone hubs across the US, an IP address usually just points you to whichever regional gateway you're routed through rather than your actual front door.
Sometimes it even shows me as being way out in 124 miles, which is nowhere near where I actually am.

Basically, user IP addresses get assigned dynamically through DHCP, so they're constantly shifting around.

The location gets logged during that initial handshake when the IP first hits the line, and it just sticks there—even if the actual physical connection you're hooked up to changes later on.
