Fine, here it is again

Alain Prost 1986
Senna 1991
Michael Schumacher 1995

Titles won in cars that weren't the absolute best.

I’d throw 2005 into the mix too.
I've always felt the McLaren was actually faster than the Renault that year.
Alonso beat out two massive talents at McLaren (Kimi + Montoya), which makes that title pretty damn impressive.
IMO

Since 1960, we've seen plenty of those wild seasons where the championship basically went to whoever happened to be sitting in the best machine—think back to '82 or '86. So, all this arguing you guys are doing 🤷
is kind of missing the point. And then there’s this guy with his "influencer" insults—honestly, your precious Maradona was basically just a social media influencer himself
.
At the end of the day, the race car is the foundation; the driver is just the final layer on top. And when it comes down to it, Lewis Hamilton is the GOAT ☕

Sure, it was fast, but since they blew up half the time due to reliability issues, it didn't really change the final result. 😁

Look, man, you clearly don't get it. Maradona was an alien, a magician who turned average players into winners. He led Napoli to their only two titles in all of Italy—can you even wrap your head around that?

Open your eyes. This whole situation with George Russell just proves how dominant Mercedes-Benz is. Any serious driver could grab a title in that car without breaking a sweat. You can try to deny it, but unfortunately for you, that's just the reality.

As for your "influencer" comment—if he were actually as good as you and everyone else claims, he would have been collecting titles back between 2008 and 2014, when the driver was truly the deciding factor, rather than failing under pressure.

I put my money on a Perez win combined with a DNF Max and Leclerc 😍

Listen, buddy,
1. I’m not even going to get into the whole Maradona debate.
2. Seven straight championships for Mercedes-Benz—that’s what proves they were dominant, not two practice sessions from George Russell. Every elite driver plays a role in shaping the car; Lewis Hamilton deserves a massive amount of credit for how much he influenced the development and technical feedback. And his driving? Don't even get me started—especially when it rains, he's just on another level.
3. He won the title in 2008. He was a young driver back then, so obviously, he wasn't stacking up trophies left and right—give him a break. Plus, you saw how Brawn GP and Red Bull Racing dominated right after his era because the cars were simply superior.

George, we're right there with you—man, it would have been something to see Lewis Hamilton and George Russell sharing the same seat.

Kimi's got two, JPM's got four. I wouldn't call that a "good chunk" of races.
Might be down to the drivers, too.

Does anyone know where I can catch the Formula 2 races? I’m having a hard time finding reliable streams, unlike the ease of watching F1.

Even Quentin Tarantino wouldn't be embarrassed by this one. Bravo, Toto Wolff.

I'm not taking anything away from Alonso's title. I'm just saying the McLaren was a more reliable machine back in 2005, and Raikkonen—who was likely at his absolute peak then—could have just as easily been the champion.

Fine by me.
I was just building on the criteria ruggedhawk20 laid out. He pointed out 1991, for instance, where Mansell and Patrese had 10 DNFs while Senna only had one. Back then, car unreliability was even more brutal than it is now.

Comparing an elite athlete like Lewis Hamilton to a criminal, a con artist, a coke addict, a cheat, or some mob lackey is honestly just tasteless.
That handball goal and that dribble straight from the center circle? That basically sums up his entire career—both on the field and off. One word: fraud. Two words: selfish egoist.

Back to the topic at hand:
I assumed George Russell would perform well, but I definitely wasn't expecting him to clock such impressive times. Unless he ends up getting caught in a collision or a podium battle (which is looking way more likely now that Romain Grosjean isn't driving), it's almost a given the kid will pick up some points. I’m genuinely curious to see if he can carry this momentum into qualifying and if he'll manage to keep a clean sheet against his own teammate.

It’s all just noise.

That was a great race to watch, but does anyone actually care? Most people don't have the whole weekend free, yet some folks just can't seem to step away from their keyboards.
With the blessing of the resident trolls, people will keep arguing about things from thirty years ago.

You honestly can't put Lewis Hamilton in the same breath as Diego. That guy was basically 90% of the soul behind Napoli and Argentina; he’s the one who carried them all the way to the top of the world in the greatest sport on the planet (and he did it as part of a team, too!). Meanwhile, Lewis is just out there enjoying life driving for the most dominant team in history against damn Valtteri Bottas.
