But if I could pivot to something else mentioned above that I find even more concerning, it’s this whole business of editing posts. In my opinion, a user's post should stay exactly as they wrote it, unless it's just some minor aesthetic cleanup—you know, fixing a broken quote or trimming down extra fluff in a citation. Aside from that, what a person writes should either be left entirely alone or the whole post should just be deleted. 🙂

Yeah, I’m with you there. But what happens if someone drops a four-paragraph post where everything is actually super relevant and on-point, but then they sneak in one little paragraph just to troll, spam, or throw an insult...? It feels like such a waste to delete the whole thing when most of it is genuinely helpful to the discussion, but if you don't scrub that off-topic junk, everyone else is just going to follow their lead and start acting out too... In cases like that, I usually find myself just editing the post rather than handing out a ban or nuking the entire message from existence...

If most of the post stays on topic but includes an insult, I’ll leave it up and issue a warning—it signals to everyone else that they can't just latch onto the penalized part, and it works quite well. If the post is mostly garbage, I'll delete the whole thing and let them try again. I never edit posts; that isn't how this works. 🙂

Look, you’re just pointing out a rule violation, plain and simple. Just because someone manages to squeeze in some helpful, on-topic info within the same post doesn't mean they get a free pass for breaking the rules; the infraction still happened, so they've gotta face the consequences.

Nah, it won't crash, but everyone who actually hangs out here all the time gets pretty burned out having to answer the exact same thing a hundred times... especially when the answer is sitting right there just a few posts up 🙂

Look, there's already a thread for those kinds of questions and I put the link right there... we don't need two separate threads, and it’s also not helpful to merge a new thread into an old one when the question about personal penalties has already been answered a million times over. If people could just try to see the bigger picture once in a while, things would be a lot smoother for everyone... 😉

As for everything else, it's all been covered, especially regarding the search tool, which by the way, you can use within individual threads (just use the 'search this thread' option in the top right corner) and like rustydrifter10 mentioned, you can even search through specific PDFs...
