How to clean a baby's umbilical cord stump?

Please do not mock this topic. I am genuinely unsure how one cleans their navel properly.
I am not referring to simply rinsing it under the showerhead. How does one actually clean the buildup that forms deep inside from sweat and skin cells?

I have already dealt with infections twice due to improper cleaning. Once, it was so severe that my navel remained bloody and weeping for an entire week.😢

Does anyone have any advice?

Same thing happened to me once—it stayed red for a couple of days. It was driving me crazy because, obviously, I couldn't stop picking at it. Honestly, don't mess with it too much unless you want things to get ugly... you really shouldn't play around with your belly button like that.
