As I mentioned before, I’ve set this somewhat daunting mission for myself: to encourage the majority of users here to actually take an interest in politics. When I mess up, I’ve never had any issue with offering a public apology. After all, who doesn't slip up now and then? And the more someone errs, the more they tend to refine their craft. The police have that "serve and protect" mantra, right? By that logic, the mods exist to serve the users and protect those who actually need it, and they do so voluntarily. In a perfect world, the users would support the mods, but here, it seems the practice is flipped on its head, with most people just making their jobs harder. The reality is that most users are just part of that silent majority, the type who wouldn't even bother showing up to a
topic like this.

Labels don't matter here. If someone is attacked and they end up killing their assailant, they get acquitted—provided they didn't overstep the bounds of self-defense. In those kinds of scenarios, the provocateurs and the total jerks on this Reddit thread should be the ones kicked out. The person who was pushed to that point at 3 PM shouldn't face any punishment at all.

The moderators in the politics section are simply enforcing the rules. And that’s that. If the rules were changed to match your specific way of talking, then the mods wouldn't be breathing down your neck over your choice of words. I didn't write the rules. But I have to follow them. Without rules, you just get voluntarism, improvisation, anarchy, and pure chaos.

You basically just hit the nail on the head regarding the biggest issue on this entire site. That’s exactly why I always say a mod needs to actually know their stuff. My original topic was actually about the completely nonsensical reaction from mod Alb last night—specifically regarding the explanation he gave for closing a certain thread, which, frankly, wasn't any more reasonable than many other discussions found under Politics.

Mentioning those criteria in the opening sentence was meant to be a simple, blunt question: "How on earth did this guy become a mod?" I can't recall his legendary contributions to the Politics section; I've been around for years, so how did His Excellency suddenly ascend to such a position? And then the guy completely loses it, offering explanations so absurd you can hardly believe what you're reading... and he just keeps going... I'd bet anything he actually thinks that person was somehow trying to let's ban the cross😁

Reddit handled it magnificently, though—the wolf is fed and the sheep are still plenty; they stripped that guy of his ban, yet there was no clear message from that clumsy moderator that he had perhaps overstepped a bit too far.

True conversation requires both speaking and listening. Unfortunately, in our current reality, people spend 90% of their time talking and only 10% listening. For a real dialogue to happen, you need a fifty-fifty split, but even that isn't enough if rational listening and an empathetic understanding of the words being spoken fail to actually reach the listener. In such cases, even a "conversation" remains nothing more than two people talking at each other.
